Choosing between one of these and a forester I know where my money would be (and was) look cool though. Foresters looks epic lowered though.

The mk1 was petrol only I think, my mk2 was a 2.0i Auto, wasnt the best on fuel around town. Think I got about 22mpg around Sheffield on short runs, but thats about standard. My S60 D5 did the same (my mustang does 13mpg on the same journey lol) Averaged 30mpg over 900 miles round trip to Cornwall, including driving about down there for a week.
The Auto box in the mk2 does not like 70, 65 or 75 is fine. At 70, the slightest incline or smallest throtle input has it kicking down randomly which is tiresome on a 6hr drive lol

Does the manual swap increase performace at all? it's way faster. As in its not got the 5s wait for the kickdown or a ginormous heavy torque convertor on cause I used a 5kg XAT flywheels when I did the swap, so thats made it feel more spritely Sweet, they not exactly slouches with the Auto box

I love a lifted 4x4, these are shocking off road though so need all the help they can get. Last heavy snow I had to tow a CRV and an X5 up Moel Famau to the carpark. I'll put the CRV down to driver error, I got my mk2 CRV up my dads old drive in the snow. It was a very steep drive! (I know it doesnt look steep in the picture, but trust me it was!) They aren't the quickest of things, but if you get on it you can certainly hustle them along

I seem to remember having to drill one of the seat bolts on one of mine, watch to don't overheat the bolt as it makes it even harder.
Could probably have done with an impact wrench to budge it

Glad you found some wheels, I saw pictures of those when I was looking and nearly sent you it. They are by far the best looking wheel (bar possibly the AC's lol) I think you could fit. *edit This picture for reference lol

I wouldnt worry about the H/G at the moment, you will find where ever oil vapour & air goes - you will get some mayo as the car's not getting up to operating temp and staying there long enough.
If it is a H/G then it's quite cheap for the parts & you have done a cambelt already so shouldnt be a problem.
If you are happy with the cooling system being full & no air lock, try and mark the water line on the header tank & run the car. Check it once it is cool again.

I bought a pack of 20 London brackets from scrwfix and a 8x4 sheet of marine ply that I had ripped into 8x1's. Then made shelves around the garage, has high up as i could. Was about £70 for 32ft of shelving that freed up all my floorspace. Hopefully this year will see this garage knocked down and rebuilt 1.2m wider with a home office added where the small store is atm. Subject to planning and neighbor not getting too upset 🤦🏼♂️

Those LED ones would be a good idea as you would get white DRL & amber indicators
