First off, I realise that the majority of folk on this forum will not regard this as retro in any way, as it's only just a teenager, and these were in production until 2000. Also I get the feeling from reading other threads, that certain people regard BMWs as about as welcome as a nasty dose of VD. However if people are interested, I guess they'll reply to say as much, and if they aren't then the thread will sink like a stone. We'll see . Having sold my E38 7 series to supercollider of this parish, I was on the lookout for another daily, which needed to be reliable, less thirsty than the 7 series and safe enough to carry my newborn son Finlay. This came up on Ebay, I went for a look, and after waving some cash at the shady character selling it, he agreed to end the auction early. It's got it's fair share of issues (the last owner was a bodger), but nothing a few Saturday afternoons tinkering won't sort. Initial plans once they're done are coilovers to get it properly low, and some tasty rims of some description. I'm pretty happy with the photos, I think I'm starting to get the hang of this DSLR malarkey

I think given the storage space some of you have, I'd have had a lot more. I filled my mum & dad's 3 car driveway and garage while I lived at home, and managed to acquire more tat while I was at uni.
I remember watching an episode of MTV Cribs, and Nelly (the rapper) was showing off his collection of 5 cars (escalade, bentley, lambo etc) and impressing my mates by declaring I had more cars than him! My total at the time was 7 (mk1 fiesta, mk1 golf, mk2 golf, series 2 landy etc!)
At the moment, lack of storage means I need to sell one to buy another. I need to have a reckon up, but I think my latest purchase is my 40th car in 10 years. I'm definitely getting worse though, I'm on my 3rd so far this year!

I sold my old tin top 316 with a fresh ticket and 6 months tax in November for £650. Prices do seem to be picking up though.

Congratulations to both of you and whitbytom too ! Is it too soon to start buying Hotwheels ? Ooohh now there's a thought. Mine's only a week and a half old, but I guess it's never too early to start brainwashing educating him about cars... If he proclaimed at the age of 16 that he wants a Punto there's every chance he'd get put up for adoption.

Wowzers, that is huuuge! Bigger than any of the flats I've lived in!
That has taken some serious skill, looking forward to seeing it progress. If your last one is anything to go by, this is going to be most excellent.

There is a form you can fill in to request the details of the current keeper of any car, I did it for a car long abandoned in a lockup I inherited. You have to put in a cheque for a couple of quid for it, and fill in accurate details of the nature of your request, but you can pretty much put what you like, it's your word against theirs really.

Haha, I went on that camel ride, and saw that wrecked VW bus when I was there 5 years ago!
They're really into their French tin out there (something to do with it being a French colony IIRC.) We got our transfer from the hotel to the airport in a pug 309 with no carpets and visible holes in the floor!
Also remember the quad ride we went on, where we stopped and saw ostriches in a yard, and in the other corner of the yard 3 young lads were arc welding a new floor into a Renner 4!

The way I browse on here is thus:
General *right click, open in new tab* Readers Rides *right click, open in new tab* Readers other Mods *right click, open in new tab* Cars for Sale *right click, open in new tab* Parts for Sale *right click, open in new tab*
I then browse each tab until I've seen/posted what I want to, and move on.
So another sub forum to open up would make no odds to me really, other than fatigueing my right middle finger...

^^ nar, they'd chuck it as unsuitable for taking a driving test in (and you lose your appointment, and the fee) It's worth checking the requirements, there are some moderns you can't take a test in because of the pee poor rear quarter visibility! Basically, whatever it is must have door mirrors, seatbelts, headrests on the seats (proper ones, not clip on) and a whole bunch of other retro-unfriendly stuff. Boooo! I can still remember the look on the examiner's face when I did my test in my dad's decidedly crusty Montego Countryman Estate, with a British racing green shell, and mismatched doors and tailgate (it had its full complement of mirrors though). Never realised they could refuse the car as unsuitable.

Definitely one of them - Mk2 Golf C, was a great little car, I did a load of work on it, and it went like the clappers for a 1300: It's sadly now dead, about a year after I sold it a lorry reversed into it and bent the shell

Looks like you're making good progress on this!
A way of getting the flywheel off without a rattle gun that I've used is to get some strong washing line type cord (or rope), loop it around the eye on the bottom of the block, and around a stud on the flywheel, or the teeth to stop it turning while you undo the flywheel bolts. You'll need a breaker bar to undo the bolts, but it worked on my old Mk2!
