Congrats on the car and the fatherhood. My wife's now a week overdue and I can't wait to join the dad club!
As for buying his first car, I'll have to ask mine when he arrives, but it's got to be Bavarian metal methinks

I wouldn't say that the fact your welder is a cheapo one is what is making it curse word. I picked up a (very) secondhand little blue Clarke 120 welder off Ebay and although it has gone off the boil from time to time it's always been something simple to put right.
The feed went curse word on mine, so I changed the liner and the tip, and realised the wire I was using was a little rusty with age, so I changed that and it was better than ever. In fact I've fallen foul of rusty wire twice, but then mine is laid up for longish spells in a damp garage.
It's all relative I guess. I know that the big single phase pro welders are easier to use and get better results, but it all depends on how often you're welding, and how deep your pockets are.

Just as an aside - if you rock up at your driving test in your own car - for example a herald with no exterior mirrors - I'm guessing the test would be a lot easier, as there are 66% less mirrors to have to check...

They're 8.5J ET15 so the distance between the mounting face and the back rim of the wheel will be a little more than 122mm, and from the mounting face to the outer rim, a little more than 92mm
If you want me to go out and measure with a tape that's no problem

I'd consider couriering em, but I'm really edgy doing it because last time I sent some wheels via courier (DHL) they managed to lose one!
If anyone can recommend a half decent one I'd consider it

I get that pretty much year in year out! Better than the alternative 'Yes, it's failed' I suppose.
Congrats though, the buzz of getting handed the magical green piece of paper after putting in a load of graft is hard to beat!

I bought these to fit my 740i, but as the car's being sold on its original wheels, I have no use for them. I presume they're replicas, as they've no BMW markings on them, but they seem to be good copies, as they're all straight and haven't got a ton of balancing weights on like most do. Wheels: 18x8.5 ET 15, pcd 5 x 120 - Centre bore 72.6mm Tyres: A mix of Pirelli and Goodyear 245/40 18 Y rated 4-5mm tread Centre Caps: Included The wheels are in fair condition with a few chips in the paint round the lips, but nothing major. Some of the paint has started to flake and bubble in places, it looks like they have been refurbished previously, but not very well, or someone's used acid wheel cleaner on em and left it on too long. £200 collected from Blackpool

Owing to the shortish MOT (6 weeks left) I'll take £1250. If I have to MOT it I'll the price will go back up to reflect this.
Cheers

My wife used to have one as her daily - was a hand me down from her mother who'd had it from brand new, on a 96 P plate. Boggo spec, no PAS or air or leccy windows, had the Valencia (Kent) engine in it and it went pretty well for a little box. The handling was very entertaining, much better to drive than the shonky polo we replaced it with.
We got rid of it in 08, and considering it was 12 years old, and had had everything my missus and her mother could chuck at it, it was in remarkably good nick. It had a few bubbly bits round the rear arches but that's pretty much it.
I was talking to the wife about it the other day, and although she's not a car buff she said she'd definitely have another
