I don't know if it ever made it to the 75, but Land Rover came up with a kit for the K Series powered Freelander -possibly fitted to later production cars too- which relocated the thermostat up into the top hose and along with the redesigned head gasket set did a lot to address overheating issues with them.
The K is an interesting engine, much maligned by some, but quite advanced for its time, and a lot of the associated issues can be forgiven to some extent when you consider it was originally conceived as a 1 litre lump, intended to power a sub 800kg car.

Not that hard to get them sorted out and running over a weekend. If you get a tune resistor to stop it looking for the lambda sensors it becomes easier still.
A rotten Disco is a good way to find a diesel engine, but at the same time they're getting harder to come by, and not average milage is getting higher. I had bought a BMW M51 -the diesel option in the P38 Range Rover- to fit in mine, but some late night ebaying has seen me buy an M52 -the 2.8 petrol equivelent- for it instead. Put it another way there's other engines which are similar amounts of work to fit, and also potentially cheaper and with more go than a Tdi. Or stick with the V8 whilst it's still running well?

I always found my V8's went better than the equivelent model Tdi. I do sort of miss the 4.2 I had in my 110, but 6mpg as it had worn the lobes off the cam, and a 30 mile round trip to the nearest LPG supplier meant that it got a diesel engine rather than a rebuild.
I would add all mine ended up being converted to the Lucas efi system, easier starting on petrol if you need it and switching between two fuels. The added bonus is the efi inlet tract is a more efficient way to feed your engine LPG than a pair of carbs, or even an American down draught setup.

I do toy with the idea of replacing the L28 engine with something with more poke but realistically I have so many other projects I really need to leave this one "finished" even if it is slow and thirsty! I hear a few Aussies have had some interesting -very rapid- results come from fitting Skyline engines in them. There's more than a few of the TD42 models had their original engines chucked in favour of Cummins 6BT's as well. Apparently the standard gearbox (at least on the TD42) will stand up to them.

No pictures -I need to do a proper update for that- but I'm pleased to report it's still running.
It needed a bit of welding for an MOT, and has had a few other minor inconveniences dealt with along the way.
I had bought a BMW M51 -and an injection pump from an M21- to replace the Mazda, however the plan changed a bit after I found myself thinking another Petrol engine might be fun.
This led to looking at a variety of options, including the South African built 2.8i Defenders. Some time spent on YouTube followed by an evening browsing ebay with some money in the bank.
The upshot of it all is that I'm now the proud owner of an M52B28 from a 328i and now wondering if I stick with an autobox or fit An R380 and a clutch pedal.

Every time in the past 9 years that I've decided I've had enough of my 110 and that I was going to sell it.
It was never going to happen.

I don't think there were any major changes, but there were changes with the civvy models, some of which may have translated over.
The other thing I've found with Land Rovers is that just because the book says something shouldn't exist, doesn't mean it isn't sat there in front of you.

As it is we represent a very small part of the viewing audience. I mean, would you GF sit down and watch the Cars of the People? I seriously doubt it! My Mrs quite enjoyed Cars of the People, and we've both found 'The Reassembler' to be quite interesting too. One could also point out that some of the wartime documentaries Clarkson has done have actually been pretty good, whilst Hammond also did well with the jungle trek/wildlife thing that was on Sky1 sometime in the past year or so. I'm still keen to see how Top Gear works out minus Chris Evans with Matt LeBlanc as the main figurehead, it was getting to be half decent by the end of the series.

Looks like your common or garden variety MOD spec 110, most likely 2.5 diesel powered, supplied engine masse from 1985 or so through to the delivery of the first wolf spec trucks about 1995.
Chassis number is a good way to work on parts ordering, but it's not inconcievable that it's had major assemblies -engine, gearbox, axles- replaced with MOD recon units of a different age to the vehicle which confuses parts ordering some.

I know this project didn't get off the ground, but this popped up on Facebook earlier, and I had to share it. An M37 Dodge with the original cab (one assumes rotted away) replaced with one from a Series Land Rover. Looks the business, and has a passing resemblance to the old 129" prototypes which Land Rover built when they were considering a truck which would take on the Power Wagon in Arabian Oil Fields. Should you need inspiration for one in future...

75's are brilliant cars, and a fine reflection/continuation of the big saloon cars which they were once known for.
The problem now -11 years sonce the last one left the line- is finding one that has been suitably looked after, and available at sensible money, however if you can find a good one you'll not be disappointed.
The KV6 ones are surprisingly frugal for a largeish petrol, but it's not a cheap -or even an easy DIY- job to do the timing belts on one.

Depends what you're fitting it into. My usual thoughts revolve around fitting engines in Land Rovers, or other places where the Rover V8 has previously been installed.
At the right money it would be a decent thing in a Land Rover, use a Cologne adapter kit and it would bolt up to a Tdi pattern box aswell.

I've no idea if the T Series (Mpi) backplate would fit the KV6, but without having them side by side it's hard to know either way.
If you were determined to do a conversion I'd be looking to start with a Tdi box and make an adapter between the two, which is about as simple as job as you could hope to come up with, after that it's sorting a spigot bearing and clutch, which if you're creative could end up mostly standard.

Heres a pic of my old ital van i do miss this one Matches my One Ton, at least when it was new... Here's a picture of my mates one which has been repainted in its original Southern Electric livery and has a replica ladder rack on top, it gives an idea what I'm aiming for with the Series III one.

Yeah, she's more than happy. I've done some work, and we've had a bit of time out and about with it, hoping to get more use out of the thing next year doing a few shows.
Looks the part behind the 110, and the Series III, although I really need to make up longer drop plates for both as I prefer towing slightly nose down rather than dragging the back end on the ground.
I'll have to pull my finger out, sort through some of the photos and start something for it.

Yeah if they work then it's best not to tempt fate and leave them. I might make it to a show or two down thst way this year.
Nudge mate, give us a shout if you're up this way again, I'm not far from Sellafield.

I've just bought a Viking Fibreline also got a Cheltenham fawn I'll send you details if you want It wasn't this fibreline was it? The Mrs and I bought it from you September time I think. New rear light units seen temporarily secured with duck tape before they were glued on properly. I have been meaning to do a bit of a thread on it for a while, hasn't happened yet though. Very impressive work displayed overall.

It could be the pictures, but the bottom door hinges look to be upside down?
I'm always collecting bits that need rehoming, although I suspect you're not just 5 minutes from West Cumbria.
I need to repair the chassis and build a bulkhead for it before I can do a great deal with it though. Without going off on too much of a tangent it's a genuine 'One Ton' spec truck, which is a bit of a rarity.
