Hi A friend of mine has bought a 1979 land rover in Tenerife, without realising the slight problem of parts availability out there. I can get them easily online but my Land Rover knowledge is rather limited, so here are the pictures of what I need - I just need to know what they are. The only parts I know are the braking components - but it has been years since I have had a car with drum brakes and I have forgot the ID. Any help at all would be really good - If any other info is needed then let me know. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8

to help out, first we need to know what vehicle you are looking for parts for.
i see coil springs, trailing arms, brake disk pads. there are no coil spring 1979 land rovers, so is it a range rover, or has a range rover chassis ?

If it can be fixed with a hammer, then it must be an electrical fault

Hi, As it's disc brakes on the front and drum on the rear I would say it's an early 90, although the possible year of '79 is not right but could be close.

We have a 1989 90..... discs all round. Believe the axles and set up were original when we got it ( but not now by a long shot)

There are more than one part available for a specific item. Take your swivel seal and retainer as pictured here. On my 110 there were 2 possible part numbers available, both ever so slightly different ..... but i only found out the hard way ..... The yr of manufacturing does not always mean you'll get the correct part for your vehicle. It got to the point with mine that i only got parts over the counter as i could take the old part in and match it!

I'm on my phone and can't zoom on the photo; is that a split screen or is there a pole making it look like one? Also the rear lamp look to be the screw on type, I've only seen these on a Series.
If this is a mis-match vehicle, parts ID is near impossible.
Best bet would be to take the numbers down off the seals, and try and ID that way.

I'd say looking at the lights and rear bumperettes its an ex military truck. Which could also be a mare for part matching!

If it is an 89 then someone has retro-fitted series doors on it (possibly so you can take the tops off). I think 89 110 had one piece doors and wind up windows.
One more thought. If it is in Tenerife, can we get a shot of the front. There's a chance it could be a Santana....?

It was military Series I was referring to, I didn't know they used screw type lamps on the Nineties / One-Tens as well... Learn something new every day!
The bumperettes are definitely military.

Looks like your common or garden variety MOD spec 110, most likely 2.5 diesel powered, supplied engine masse from 1985 or so through to the delivery of the first wolf spec trucks about 1995.
Chassis number is a good way to work on parts ordering, but it's not inconcievable that it's had major assemblies -engine, gearbox, axles- replaced with MOD recon units of a different age to the vehicle which confuses parts ordering some.

Weren't the specs of the NA military stuff pretty much the same throughout the production run Das? Must admit I'd not looked too closely.
I don't think you'll go too far wrong looking for parts for a pre tdi (so 1991ish) 2.5na One Ten.

I don't think there were any major changes, but there were changes with the civvy models, some of which may have translated over.
The other thing I've found with Land Rovers is that just because the book says something shouldn't exist, doesn't mean it isn't sat there in front of you.
