Well it needs to be an lt77 box, they were in sd1's and later heavy duty vehicles like sherpa's etc so thats an option but still not many about. Landrovers have them aswell but the box is more bulky which means modding the tunnel more.
Just been sent this short vid of my MGB on the trackday last Saturday and you can see the 'death' smoke (as my mate calls it) appearing on gear change after the first corner
For those that didn't read my other thread, engine decided to turn into a smoke machine on the way home that vid was on the last session when we noticed it so gave it an easy time on the straights.
Excellent purchase i've found the two e30's i've had over the last 3 1/2 years to be very reilable - as neither one has ever let me down!
My e30 cab is an auto, it's the first auto i've ever had, ideally i wanted a manual but it came up for the right price so i went for it and i've not regretted it one bit, it's nice relaxing lazy driving
Not done a compression test yet, i've now laid it up for winter and will look at it next year - i've decided i'm just going to take the engine out - fit the v8 and get that all up and running and when i've got time i'm hoping strip the engine r and rebuild it in order to learn a bit more about engines.
To be honest it has come as a bit of a shock, as it was a very quiet engine, good oild pressure and never smoked. I always gave it an oil and filter change before each trackday! and i do one roughly every 3 months.
When it let go yesterday the temp was normal and the oil pressure didn't change - was still about 70lbs.
Started it up this morning and it smoked a little bit from cold, when i took the dipstick out it's also puffing a bit of smoke out which it didn't do before and there is some smoke coming out the oil cap when removed...
Some pic's, Oil genrrally everywhere, notice how its sprayed onto the alternator,
On this pic you can just see some some smoke coming out of the dipstick hole,
As for Craners it was a bit dodgy, a mk2 Fiesta managed to roll it luckily the occupants were fine
I went on a open pit lane trackday at Donington today, nice and wet meaning a tail happy mg ;D
The day went really well as i managed not to spin all day and avoided any accidents! i was told by a steward they had recorded over 40 incidents
All was going well until the journey home when i spotted some smoke coming back on the a50 and it gradually got worse and worse, managed to limp home but either my piston rings have gone or i've blown a hole in a piston
Oh well it was bound to happen eventually i'm just glad it let go after the trackday and not at the start
Just means the v8 conversion will happen sooner rather than later!!
On good note i got home find these, that i won on ebay for £4.99 posted
I can now have yellow lights, just a shame the mg is not going anywhere soon!!
;D That's karma for all the times you drive 200 miles to get lied too and let down by somebody who knows better..
Thats true mate when i was looking for an e30 i looked at 6 sheds before i found a decent one even though each one was described as rust free and in good condition lol
Just nice to know there are some nice genuine people out there.
I went on a bit of a road trip yesterday to collect some manifolds i was a bit dubious about......
I spotted this advert 'v8 block hugger manifolds £30 pair' and this seemed a rediculously cheap price for manifolds so i sent him an email expecting the price to be wrong but he confirmed the price was £30
So i arranged to collect them yesterday and it was going to be a 207 mile round trip and i thought it would be rude not to take to the mg for a blast before it's laid up for winter...
Anyway when i finally got there it was a really nice house in a small village and the bloke seemed sound and obviously not short of cash.
He then took me to his detached double garage and he opened the door and sitting there was a mint AC Cobra replica and he gave me the manfiolds i agreed to buy and they are the very expensive tubular block hugger manfiolds ;D and he then went onto say he had a full v8 large bore single silencer stainless steel exhaust system for an MGB and he said it's free if you can fit it in your car today as its in the way obviously i managed to get it in
When i got home my dad had a look at the manfiolds and he was sure they were stainless because of the welding (my dad works in metal fabrication) and sure enough when testing them with a magnet they are stainless i didn't think they were as there is a few rust marks on them but my dad said stainless can rust it just depends on what grade of stainless it is.
Anyhow i've just priced them up at a v8 conversion parts supplier at £320 ;D and i got the full exhaust system aswell so its got to be the best £30 i've ever spent....
Heres some pic's,
The only bits that don't look stainless are the join pipes from the manifolds as they are quite rusty but the rest is stainless and just needs a good clean.
My MG got filthly on the journey due to all the spray off wagons
I have some gutter sections how much do you need? actually forget that i'll take a pic in the morning and you can tell me if its any good can't remember what condition it is in, just remember the bit i needed was mint - but its been sitting outside for about 2 years now.
