I've been playing at all this sort of thing for a year now and seem to be getting a feel for what I'm OK at, and what I fail at. Brewing wines that don't taste foul or get infected seems to be something of a mystery to me, which is odd, since cider is essentially the same process and I'm OK at that. I have a feeling that it is to do with the timeframes involved- even in the depths of winter, I can knock out a turbo cider in a couple weeks which is fairly pallatable, but a wine takes far longer. More time and opportunities for infection or for things to go wrong. I've just started on beer kits and have done 2 with good levels of success and think I may be a convert. I will document the next one that I do but I may need to wait until I either accumulate enough bottles or buy a keg. So far I've done a Muntons IPA with brewing sugar and a 'Superbrew' bitter from Wilkinsons with beer kit enhancer (which is essentially a mix of spraymalt and brewing sugar). This is the latter, living in the bottom of my wardrobe to condition... They were only bottled last night so will need a little while. My taste from the bottom of the barrel was very promising. Here's the next one. Coopers Australian Pale Ale, with hopped light spraymalt and brewing sugar. I'm undecided whether to do it to the correct quantities or to up the sugar/alcohol a bit. I've gone with Coopers as according to the majority on the Jims Beer Kit forum, they're pretty foolproof kits that don't go wrong easily, they take modifications to the recipe well and they're incredibly cheap for the quality. This one was £12 and makes 5 gallons. Total cost to brew will be about £20. 50p/pint for a decent beer is not to be sniffed at..

I didn't renew my subscription but that sounds like good reason for me to go and buy a copy once it's hit the shops

I'd want to weld all the way around for a patch like that, using the method that Chris said above. One tack on each side or corner of the patch, allow to cool and then lay a tack onto the last tack to create a seam with minimal distortion. The hardest bit is being patient enough to let it cool between tacks The only other thing to emphasise is that you need to cut out all the grotty metal, and will probably end up having to cut out more than you expect. There's a recent discussion on this section of the forum about the best cutting discs to use.

I once had a mk3 Polo that I ran out of fuel once. It shortly after developed similar symptoms. It ended up being the fuel pressure regulator (also listed as a 'fuel accumulator') being clogged. If you left it for a bit the crud would settle and you could carry on as normal

You will spend an eternity hunting if you set your heart on a specific car, in a specific price range. Be open minded, keep an eye on all the usual places and see what comes up

I have a feeling your best bet will be to have a go at piggybacking it on to a current policy or starting a policy then cancelling within the cooling off period.

With such a broad range of criteria, it may be worth just seeing what happens after a glass of wine on ebay.co.uk ;D

Angyl, don't forget where MattW is posting from; I imagine it complies with an American definition of 'midsized' better than a European one I've never, ever considered anything within the BL stable other than Triumphs to be cool (and the ones I like are pre-BL design anyway!), but you appear to have done funny things to my taste in funny old cars. Good work

I'll be coming down on the sunday with any luck, what's the procedure for obtaining the address? Can't wait to see this place/people/cars in the flesh You will need to get in touch with Mystery Machine by PM, ideally before the weekend starts (they'll be well into the 4th or 5th case of beer by now ;D ). He won't necessarily pick up any messages over the weekend itself. I've sent him a text to say that you may be in be in touch by PM though

I have no experience of bio diesel or WVO. I chuck SVO straight into the tank with a bit of diesel/petrol and drive about smelling like a chip shop so am quite obviously not qualified to comment...
... but.. Before you consider whether its worth investing in equipment to make your own bio diesel, have you managed to source a regular supply of WVO? There are lots of people doing it that will have arrangements with local commercial Spammy spam spam spam, no thank you, man. and many places are contractually obliged to return the oil to their suppliers. More competition than maybe you'd expect.

My Passat's booked in for it's MOT this Thursday, so if it's OK then I may potter at one or two little bits out in the yard depending on how it gets on, but there shouldn't be anything big to do. Failed on 2 rod ends, headlight aim, rear door not opening, a brake pipe, a wheel bearing and a steering rack gaiter. Not terrible for a £300 car really. Parts have been ordered, so I'll see what I can find time to fit over the weekend if everyone (mostly Bruce) is ok with me pottering at it in the yard/doorway? I'll get everything soaking in oil tomorrow morning. It's no big deal if I don't get it all sorted though. That stuff all sounds very familiar ;D

Hardcore was talking about this with me a while ago. He referred to it as the 'no fear' method of cambelt change because to cut it you need to have the engine running and revving high enough for a Stanley blade to cut through cleanly..
It's an odd one though. You'd only do a cambelt change on a car/engine you care about and didn't want to risk damaging, so why use such a risky method other than as an experiment to see if you can?

I'm really pleased to see this getting some love and going back on the road Nice work on the front end, a couple little tweaks and I reckon that will look spot on. The rear springs always dislocated but popped straight back in again when dropped down so i never worried about it. I can't remember ever getting around to wiring the fronts in though...

If I remember rightly, IBAN is the account number, sort code and an internationally recognised code/name (not necessarily in that order!) for the bank you are sending to, so I see no reason why the below IBAN generator/calculator wouldn't work and the SWIFT/BIC code is something similar. www.ibancalculator.com/SWIFT/BIC and IBAN are internationally recognised terms so even a Google Translate message to the seller should be fine though.
