I have no experience of bio diesel or WVO. I chuck SVO straight into the tank with a bit of diesel/petrol and drive about smelling like a chip shop so am quite obviously not qualified to comment...
... but.. Before you consider whether its worth investing in equipment to make your own bio diesel, have you managed to source a regular supply of WVO? There are lots of people doing it that will have arrangements with local commercial Spammy spam spam spam, no thank you, man. and many places are contractually obliged to return the oil to their suppliers. More competition than maybe you'd expect.

thanks for the reply, ye ive got a regular supply as I'm licensed to collect waste oil and fat. slowly building up clients, just thought of doing it as I'm sick of paying 1.40 a litre!!! but some people say don't do it nothing but trouble and some say do it cheap as chips!! just been told to watch how you mix e.g oil/methnol etc.. thats why i thought id buy a machine to do it all.

Hi, Iv got a 1990 p100 1.8td, I run it on 40% new cooling oil and 60% diesel, it runs better and quiter than on straight diesel, and i don't care if I'm only saving 10p a litre as long as I'm getting away with something, were taxed in to the work house in this country, so if i can get away with anything i will.anyway, a saving of 10p a litre is 2 litres to a packet of Rich Tea!!

if you do run on bio its not good to ur fuel pump can mess up ur seals it has on my dads motors he ruined a pug 405 1.9td shogun 2.5td transit 2.5 td in the pssed 2 years tried it in my 1,9d xsara it didnt not start to goodand was down on power it messed up the heater plugs the the mrs pug 2.1td 406 to for the saving of a few pence but that was neet bio he now runs a 1.9td a4 on 40% bio 40% diesel and 20% cooling oil and that seems to go well but cost a bit to make and is messy and you get a lot off waste too but good luck

I ran a 306 for 50k on svo and a 406 on svo for 24k.
The XUDte is generally fine with veg oil. But the lucas pump suffers seizure after a while, as the oil journals for lubrication are too narrow for the thicker veg oil. The lucas pump will run merrily with no apparent problems until bang! I swapped my lucas pump for a bosch pump.
Bosch pumps are generally fine on veg oil, but do sometimes burst a seal. Quite rare though. I altered the point of injection timing using a specialist dial gauge, installed a tiger loop to reduce the chance of air being sucked in and had different nozzles fitted to the injectors and pop tested by an expert.
Had no bother with either!
The saving was significant as the svo from Makro ranged from £11 to £16 for 20 litres. Using wvo would have required more time, but would have yielded a bigger saving.

the seals on all my lucas pumps leak if i go over a 50/50 mix but i just run some neat dino through it and they soon swell back up and stop leaking (within minutes). There are SVO safe seals but most places will only supply and fit not supply

red. cheaper than bio diesel, no conversion, no chemicals.
if the cars cheap enough you can afford to get caught as they only take the car off you if and/or when you get caught.
If you fit a tank under the rear seat and leave the standard tank in and ever get dipped then they find nothing...

problem is with red it stinks , if you know the smell youll smell it easy, a little oil in the tank looses the smell,
only other thing is if they cant dip you its unlikely but they have been known to pop a pipe off the filter,.

thats why your better off sticking the lawnmower/moped tank under the rear seat. standard tank still has white in it and they can dip away to their hearts content!
never noticed a smell, some people say there is one, google doesnt throw up anything either. Mind you, in 15 years of diesel motoring ive only been dipped once and that was at an agricultural show and they were dipping everything that went through the gate.

I looked into making Bio but thats as far as it went as it seems its too easy to get it wrong. Just get an older diesel with a bosch pump and put your WVO in that.

I've got a mate who bought one of those converting gizmos, think it's called Bio Buddy or something....
He loves it, pours in waste veg oil (his mum runs a pub that does food) and gets biodiesel out, he runs his 106 diesel on it with no probs...
