Ok here is the issue. Driving my home built Polo GT, you put your foot down at certain times the car stutters & you have to go down through the gears, its gets slowers & slower - even with your foot to the floor until enventually the car dies. You turn the key off, then back on and it starts first turn. will run for a while again, then it starts the same. If did it to me ton the way to work this morning - I drove it like I stole it and kept the revs high in every gear and it then ran much better. Could it be something as simple as dirt in the fuel? These are the items i've changed/checked with no difference:- 4xPlugs Rotor arm & Dizzy Cap Fuel Pump relays fuel filter I changed these one at a time to see if there was any difference, but everytime it seems to be after about a 15 minute drive it starts to stutter!! The other things I though was fuel pump, distributor (hall senders are an on these) or the coil pack - not changed these yet as I don't have any spares (plus the pump is almost £100, the distributors are £180 from VW & the coil packs are about £40.

The fuel pump is an almost new Bosch one. they don't tend to overheat. if it was that issue then why does it restart and run fine again instantly?

i had a problem like this on an old serria, it turned out to be wibblepoo in the petrol tank getting sucked onto the in tank filter slowly blocking it up, as soon as i turned the car off the wibblepoo dropped of the filter and all was good for a while till it happened again. might not be this but cheap to try just in case.

Its a weird setup on the polo - there is a small lift pump, then it goes into the main pump, and through the filter next. The filters are pretty cheap, but it maybe a good idea to put a filter pre pump also. I did run the tank a little lower than usual a few months back so maybe it is just curse word in the tank - Gave it a shot of redex earlier. hopefully that may help!

I had a similar problem on a Scimitar GTE, turned out to be the ignition coil breaking down.

When it stops next time jump out and take the fuel cap off and lision if there is a air rush going in, if it is the vent in your cap is blocked,

I'll change the coil pack next and see what happens! Also just had a brand new tyre disintegrate on me - took it back to the place and they wouldnt replace it as I've "driven on it" well - that the most obvious comment about a tyre I have ever hear - what else are you meant to do with a tyre???

I once had a mk3 Polo that I ran out of fuel once. It shortly after developed similar symptoms. It ended up being the fuel pressure regulator (also listed as a 'fuel accumulator') being clogged. If you left it for a bit the crud would settle and you could carry on as normal
