Big apologies for posting modern stuff but I'm really in a corner here ! A while back, I bought a 2009 Fiat Doblo 1.4 which had the airbag light on and need to get this fixed. The airbag module when scanned by an auto electrician, had no communication with the diagnostic scanner so couldn't be reset. Anyhow, it appears that the previous owner tried to fix it too and fitted a module from a 2005 which clearly didn't work.
Fiat have provided me with the correct module part number of which there are a few on fleabay and I want to order one. But.....how can a replacement's software be cloned if I don't have the original module? The car only has 41k on the clock so not ready to be scrapped yet! The auto electrician is away on holiday so I can't bounce this off him either and want to order the part before it is sold elsewhere.

LPG tanks with all the piping and wiring removed this morning so really pleased with that. I am really happy doing this as I hate excess "baggage" on my vehicles. Simple does me just fine.

The suns been out which does wonders for moi. Over the last number of months, I have been faffing around trying to find a solution to get the aftermarket headers from leaking where they bolt to the heads. In short, you couldn't get a socket even close to the bolts due to bad design so torqueing them down was a fat failure. It was suggested to try some custom 8mm bolts but even they (£52 quid later) did not give me the clearance. I then tried to see if I could grind a bit of material off but that ended up with a big hole. So after much annoyance, 2 new factory style cast manifolds arrived yesterday which were today fitted with little bother and with all the extra working space, I decided to do an oil change, replace the plugs and fit a new knock sensor. One tip to share is even with factory bolts, check to see if your socket can actually fit over the bolts as one or two were too close to the manifold casting and could have done with a bit of extra machining. Not much to see but proof that something was really done Now I must have been hiding for years not to see these Fram oil filters before as this one had a rubber coating on the end enabling one to actually hand tighten it properly which I thought was pretty cool. Loads more to do including some engine bay painting but that will have to wait in line for more important stuff!

Paul, that is simply stunning and I for one know you made the right call! Smiles, smiles, smiles!! My little "thing" I do when I find holes like in your bumper is to fit those rubber grommet/bungs until a more permanent fix is made. Silly I know.

Hi Rob, great write up and well done on the progress so far! It blows me away how poorly some work has been done on these older trucks which have been imported. My Chevy K1500 is a similar story but maybe just not quite as bad. One thing I found almost warming, reading about the challenges you have faced is how our love for these old pieces of tin help us during tough times. An hour spent on the truck really helps me get my head straight, so to speak!

It's astonishing that this exists! I mean, it's like a golf cart with a roof. What in the world was this produced to do? Is it better than walking? Surely that's all this could be? Great job cleaning it, but may I suggest a TURBO HAYABUSA ENGINE? There's many here which would like to see a decent bike engine but the Grizzman ain't budging

Whilst incredibly fascinating and with undoubted potential, the wee thing will never inspire you as it's just so limited. As much as I enjoy your antics with it, maybe your precious time could be used on a more satisfying project or simply having fun with the RR with summer on the horizon!

It's been a good while since posting anything about the truck as life has just got in the way over the last couple of years to do much to it. The good news is that I still love the bleedin thing and hope, once again, to get it back on the road this year. It's a funny thing but not being around a circle of car mates and the fact that SW Scotland doesn't really do regular "pub type" meets has meant that the enthusiasm to crack on hasn't really been there. A few jobs are being done however, in between the rain! One of them is the decision to remove the old lpg system which worked, but in need of replacement tanks(yes 2) as they are badly rusted. With lpg getting a pain to find in most area's due to many forecourts removing the kit, I may as well just run on petrol not doing many miles per year. Brake components have been replaced where needed and a new set of shocks have been fitted last year although it ain't been road tested yet! So, lots of waffle but limited work done but I WILL get there

I was tempted to start a thread on “Your home town historical pics” But these will fit in here just fine. brachunky will smile…… and akku will confirm that you will find all the cars pictured still on the road. My home town despite having lived many places, growing up with a father who was a civil servant, is Port Elizabeth. Being a coastal city there were a few road houses. Great places to go buy something to eat at 2.00am or to go show of your modded Escort, Golf, Fiat Mirrafiori or other cars. Random mix Cheers Grizz, seeing these photo's really made my day! Fabulous memories as you said, of ending a night on the town at a local roadhouse! I spent much hard earnt money at all of those establishments over the years whist sitting in either a 1965 VW Beetle, MK4 Cortina in pukey avocado green or my favourite 1971 Jag XJ6 in British racing green and chrome wirespoke wheels! The Jag was my favourite despite it drinking more than I could manage. Happy Valley was also a huge treat to visit but that was way before I was legally allowed to drive. It was however a great place for a snog with yer girlfriend which added extra to the venues name!

It's going to happen Grizz, a few months of niggle fixing so get used to the odd breakdown whilst you iron out it's wobbly's! The the more miles you do, the quicker it gets sorted as weird as that sounds. If it wasn't 400 miles, I'd have loved to have given you a hand with this project

Let's face it, despite all the advances in vehicle tech, emissions and everything else, the replacement part industry has been on a relentless dive to the bottom of the "quality" pit. Tires cracking, suspension components lasting a fraction of the life of the original part, uber thin replacement body panels, very iffy electrical components and sensors. The list of poor grade replacement parts is endless and we the consumer just swallow. A perfect example if you have ever owned a Landrover is the whole Britpart, Bearmach parts catalogue, absolutely disgusting quality. As you have probably noticed, I get really peeved at not receiving fair value for money.

Your new "child" needs a rear valence of sorts or did it have one at some point? Or for a good laugh, fit a towbar!

I think these are really underestimated cars having had 2 some time back. They are an enjoyable ride with enough creature comforts to make a comfortable cabin. As mentioned dual mass flywheels can be pricy if needed and don't be tempted by the original factory integrated satnav system. When they go wrong you loose so much functionality as things like ac controls are operated by the touch screen. They would often freeze making you have to stop & restart the car to use them again! Other than that, I think they are great future retro cars especially the saloon and come to think of it, the estate on banded steels may look cool too.

Like Grizz, I too lived through this era in SA so remember those ads on telly well! They could be seen on every street with almost 380000 units made. They also did an even more budget model called the Chico.

Thank you all for taking the time to share your thoughts, it will be taken on board. Just for clarity, although HMRC will want their bit via my self assessment, it's not my intention to become a dealer in the true sense of the word. I'm talking about a couple of cars per month so more like a side hustle without the master hustle if you get what I mean!
