Big apologies for posting modern stuff but I'm really in a corner here ! A while back, I bought a 2009 Fiat Doblo 1.4 which had the airbag light on and need to get this fixed. The airbag module when scanned by an auto electrician, had no communication with the diagnostic scanner so couldn't be reset. Anyhow, it appears that the previous owner tried to fix it too and fitted a module from a 2005 which clearly didn't work.
Fiat have provided me with the correct module part number of which there are a few on fleabay and I want to order one. But.....how can a replacement's software be cloned if I don't have the original module? The car only has 41k on the clock so not ready to be scrapped yet! The auto electrician is away on holiday so I can't bounce this off him either and want to order the part before it is sold elsewhere.

It may be worth getting someone with a Snap On Solus scanner, or something which can read more modules on a Fiat, before trying to fix things which may not need fixing. It may be worth seeing if there is a good Fiat or Alfa specialist in your area: IME: -Generally, the dealer level diagnostic kits are what you need for alot of modern stuff: -BMWs can be read with Delphi and Snap-On Machines, but require OEM stuff for more detailed analysis. Carly isn't bad, but it's now pricey for what it is. INPA is great on the pre-2004(ish) stuff -Saabs are hopeless on anything bar GM Tech II. This makes diagnostics awkward, and expensive. I probably could have now paid for a Tech II setup in comparison to what I've shelled out. Only a handful of Snap-On Solus machines could do things, but not much. Carly only did the emissions side on the engine -Jags really need SSD to work on them, for even basic functions. Seats for example can lose their memory of where the trims are if the battery goes flat, and this needs resetting, which only SSD can do. -VAGs are best with VCDS but Snap-On goes quite a way. You get the idea .
