What about the key words "summer" and "hardtop" which don;t go together in my book. OK I know this part of the world is a bit wet but for me the limited opportunity we do get to drive around in a convertible with the roof down is a major feelgood factor.
Then it is your car so it's up to you....

Do a search on the superturbodiesel.com forum. I remember a guy in Denmark (maybe?) on there mentioning that he put a Merc engine into a Landy.

Look up Mick Moloney in Co. Clare. He rallies a rotary powered mk2.

Browsing MG Enthusiast magazine today I saw an ad for someone called Fisher Services (fisher-services.co.uk) in the UK and there was a picture in their ad of a very nice black MGB GT Sebring replica. So I did a bit of searching and found this on their website / Flickr site www.flickr.com/photos/65426732@N08/6476599911/(Am I getting more stupid or is linking to Flickr photos becoming a major pain ) I don't know anything about them or the car but going through the Flickr pics it looks like it was built then crashed and rebuilt again. It is well worth going through the 200 pics on FLICKR

I vote for the Micra K11 mentioned a few posts back. All these other cheapies are fine but I don't think any of them have the reliability of a Micra. In my experience there is nothing worse than having to put time into fixing a cheap runaround. On the flip side there is great satisfaction to be had form getting reliability from one. With a lot of the other suggestions posted above you would only be buying trouble - which is fin if it is a nice car but just keep in mind the reason you are buying it.

I'me sure there must have been more than 3 made though. I definitely remember seeing a red one in Cork back in the 90's and a blue one somewhere else back then also.

Beer was responsible for someone deciding they were going to take the remains of my MX5 and put it all (suspension/backbone etc) under a 105E shell. Tell us more........

It's your car so fit arches if you want but it does look good in the pictures above but as also said it will look good with them also. You've captured soemthing special with the look in the photo. I love the photos of that other one on here that you mentioned with the arches fitted. One other potential option - the arches on this are widened but are very subtle. I'm thinking about doing this on one of my MGB's will take a good bit of work though.

BMW 1 series - RX8 I don't like either - now the RX7 that's a great looking car....but anyway back to the diesel conversion Merc OM605 or OM606 if it will fit - legendary engines Or if you want to go the Subaru route - modern diesel ECU's are getting more common - price is still high though see here

I have the same problem with an XJC which has turned me off doing any work on it for a long while while I try to decide what to do with it. Funny enough I also have a similar situation to you in that I have a restorable other XJC which I bought for parts but can't bring myself to cut the roof off it I have to say I share that deep deep hatred of Webasto roofs. Worst things that were ever fitted to any car. One other potential idea that I was thinking about was transplanting a sunroof from another car in it's place - some modern horrible Fiats (Stilo, Grand Punto etc) have a large glass sunroof like this

So the MGB came with 5 link brackets welded to the moncocque as standard ? That's good to know . While I realise you are being slightly sarcastic here, the ironic thing is that ignoring your (incorrect) assumption that the 5 link mounts are welded on, the 5 link can be fitted to any MGB shell. See here www.frontlinedevelopments.com/products/mgb/5-linkrearsuspension.shtmlWhich was my point - there were people in this thread quoting a "heavily modified" shell - which was incorrect information, and then everyone is going off on a rant unrelated to the actual car.

Agreed. The other point that has to be made here is around the perception that this is a "heavily modified" MGB shell. It's not - have a look at what was actually done and you will see - a bit of seam welding, a small panel placed between the chassis and bulkhead to avoid a rust trap, and a bit of lead loading on a few panels. All the suspension stuff is, I believe, bolt on and will also bolt on to any standard shell.

There's a 2 door one for sale here in Ireland - (nothing to do with me - just thought I'd post it up here). It's been for sale for a while now - price started off very high from what I can remember but has dropped to this level. Still UK reg'd as well. cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/vintagecars/2527906

Yes, gn3dr, it's disappointing that people are complaining about the legality when they could be complaining about the suspension or the welding. Yes - one is a comment on actual pictures of parts of the car and an opinion being formed on those based on one individuals (mine) comparison of these pictures with numerous other pictures available on the web (something you should be familiar with) of high quality fabrication, welding and suspension optimisation. The other is speculation on opinions about legality with no actual facts verified. And please don't spin me the line about no negativity that gets used on here. That is just a cop out. Just because you post a car on here and there is kind of rule that no-one can post a negative comment about it, doesn't mean that the car is perfect. I mentioned both positives and nagatives about the car.

Dissappointing to see this forum delve into into the legal BS about whether it requires IVA etc. From reading the Classic Monthly mag they kept the live rear axle so that the car would legally conform to the 1966 registration rules. Why don't ye all just assume that the company is keeping everything legal and comment on teh car itself. The whole live rear axle thing for me is the most dissappointing part. The price of this car is ridiculous. For the extra power I would expect an IRS at least. Also what doesn't sit too well with me is the "strengthening" of the shell. I saw a few pictures of this and it really looked a bit unprofessional - scrappy looking welds etc. The front wings being welded on and the joints being leaded looks a bit silly when they still have the bolts on the bottom of the wings on the sill seam. Undoubtabely the work is good but 50K? As has been said the same or better will be built by guys in shed for a lot less. On a more positive note the interior is great - but I wouldn't have as much heavy sound system gear in there. I love the stitched suede roof and seats. The overall concept of a modernised MG is great (I'm doing it myself but I'm going to use IRS and a more modern front suspension too.) Fair play to them for doing it - I love Ed Braclicks (?) supercharged MGB too.

Bookmarked as well - (always difficult to search on here for MGB projects due to the three letter search thing - very annoying) The RWD bits for a K Series should be very easy to get either from Frontline (£££ ) or here www.jlhmorrisminors.co.uk/content/k_series.php or the bellhousing is available from Titan motorsport. I have a few MGB projects on the go as well - an MGB GT + 2 and a 1/2 MGB Roadsters. One is definitely going to be getting a K series - I have a 1.4 K + bellhousing + box + complete set up out of a K sereis engined Scimitar SS1 which I will fit but I want to upgrade to a 1.8 K in it's place. As was said already the K series is such a nice light engine it makes sense - and there is tons of info out there on fitting it. One of the others is going to be getting full MX5 running gear including front and rear subframes and suspension. I might actually go with the Mx5 suspesnion on all of them. Looking forward to updates. A few other potential engines - Zetec SE from a Puma - good power available from these. Or a KV6 maybe - keeping it in the MG family!
