Hi Folks,
So just as a bit of background, the story is, i have a 4 door escort I'm lightly restoring (next to no rust to begin with, just an abandoned respray job) see below. Its a ghia with a 50k sweetly running 1600 xflow, like new black interior etc, should be a nice car.
It will be primarily a road car, but i will be using it for the occasional road rally, night navigation etc club level stuff for fun and the odd trackday.
Ive single leaf RS springs in the back with tramp bars and a panhard rod. plan for front is capri/RS DIY coilover conversion.
Now for my main questions
I want to rotor-ize it perhaps not right now but when summer comes. I've done a fair bit of research on the engine themselves etc and read people build threads on various 12a rx7's and other things, but i thought id ask here for some definite infor from poeple who have done it or are really in the know.
in no particular order, here are some of my questions, my queries are not really based on getting it in there, but more what to go with. thanks in advance!
1.i'm looking for something in the region of 150-200bhp must be N/A and most likely, Carb. what do i go for? ser4 13b? ser5 13b? renesis? i was told by a mate that used to be into RX7's to forget about the 13b and put a renesis in on carbs and a megajolt ? Ive yet to find hardly anoyone however that has put carbs on a renesis or RX8 so I'm starting to think its not a workable thing really.
Originally i was thinking of a rusty/crashed FC rx7 ser5, but now I'm all over the place
2. on the ser4 and 5 13b, how difficult is the wiring on them ie, splicing it to my escort loom? I'm very mechanical but wiring would be my weak point, i wouldnt really be into building looms and ecu's and faffing with immobilizers etc. do any of the RX7's get complicated like this with chip keys and immobilizer instrument clusters etc??
3. if anyone has done it to an escort, do i need to modify the tunnel for an RX box?
Sorry its long winded, but any help on the subject at all will be greatly appreciated, cheers!
