Is it possible to trace the vehicles history if you're the owner - I thought there was a form that you could get this information from the DVLA?

You can buy a new tank for the mk1 Jim. A bit expensive, but they do cure a major headache. If they were available for the Mk2 I’d be buying one. I had 3 tanks, 2 were rotten. I cleaned a 3rd and it held water, painted and fitted it , then it leaked fuel after a month or so. I bought another and had to weld that, plus it was dented AF. So I bought another and that’s holed too😩. I'll bear that in mind the other reason I'd like to chop of of my tanks is because I'd like to rework the baffling and put an internal swirl pot as id like to convert it to injection.

With the garage free for doing activities. I've bought the axle and sub frame in from the shed which has earned me some brownie points with mrs jim! At this rate I'll be at 0 by Christmas! I've stripped one of the leaf springs down but I need to find someone who sells replacement pads/rubbers for them. I've found rubbers but the circular pads are tricky- I may have to make some. I also pulled the tank out which will need reworking as the por15 hasn't worked- its flaked in the tank and under the paint its rustier than I've worked on yet! Unfortunately its rusted through, I'm in no rush for a tank but I think I'll cut the lower section off and get some more L in there too

Just catching up on this Chris, its good to see another project of yours I wanted to ask a few questions if you don't mind? Knowing the windows will eventually leak plus water splashing on the wooden floor underneath could you substitute the wood with a marine ply which is better equipped for getting wet? Do you find that because of the jacking point location and aged steel plus 60 years of being jacked etc does this affect the B pillar and the fitment of the 2 doors?

Unfortunately Jim you cannot do everything your self and you just have to as for some assistance. Thanks Pete - I have always gone in with the notion of I'll try to do it myself and if I get stuck I'll get help but this door skin was me just doing rather than thinking. At least I can start making the mechanical stuff look pretty and work - I'm better at that than bodywork at least!

The last few weeks have been a repeat of the previous posts I've made! Basically lots of sanding, swearing and cups of tea! My attempt to get the door skin failed and it appears the gaps to wide and too far gone for it to be rectified. I'll have to replace it again but the body shop will do the job as they should have done - lesson learned... End this on a high note shes been safely loaded and sent in her way, the door will be sorted afterwards they're unphased about it though

It still seems to have the Escort registration number, if it's still using the original vin and vehicle description, Given the stupid value of twin cam escorts the biggest return would probably be to build all the parts back into a new escort shell. I don't mean this to be a loaded question but is that legit?

If the engine and box are in good shape youd get a good price- as much as I'd like it!
I'd stay away from an Essex however you'll be adding a lot of weight for some improvement on torque.
As stated earlier a zetec or an mx5 as you've got the engine and box plus they're plentiful.
For a v6 maybe a jag s type? There's manual box conversion parts also

You're getting on with the rebuild!
Having smoked my loom and remade it - it's not too hard to get original coloured wiring by the metre. I just unpicked it wire by wire and built a very basic pin board using an old chipboard to test it.
Whilst this was underway I added fuses and relays but the only think I need to change is oil pressure cut off for the electric fuel pump rather than using the alternator charge light as a reference - it was sketchy when testing and I've found a way of adding a oil pressure switch that won't interfere with the oil pressure gauge sender.
I also carefully drilled the bulkhead plugs to add an extra wire for my electric fan so it's blended in with the loom

It's looking well for its age!
What happened to the front end?
Will the Cortina be restored to standard or do you and your father have plans for it?

I've just been catching up with this, I love the car and what you're doing!
Regarding the engine swap and the suspension even though I'm late to the conversation I'd continue with the 3.2 and finish the Cressida, having had the cortina off the road and messing around with things that will take time to get right I've sacked some of the planned conversions off and focus on getting her back on the road instead of looking at a pile of parts!
You can always come back to them over winter etc

It can be worth trying the fit with the door rubbers as they can put the doors way out when you finally assemble it I would if I had some but I've been careful with ensuring they are balanced and the gaps arent tight for that reason
