All caught up, and see the car in the tin at the weekend. The body is looking so much better than When I last saw it! All the gaps look very good. And the paint is no worse than my own! The man is just a overly critical of his own work, like we all are. Great progress though. Thanks dude, it was good to see you - and go out in the 944! You're right about the criticism though!

Up until 2016 it was an as and when I could get the time and have the money to do anything as the car was 70-90 miles away depending on where I was living at the time,
2016 the garage was finally able to accept a car and I would spend most Saturdays and the occasional evening depending on weather and how work was that day.
Since April I have been getting up at 6 to have an hour in the garage because I don't need to be at work till 9 and it's 20 mins away, it's been helpful whilst bodywork is being done as I can work quietly doing hand sanding or applying filler etc - if I didn't do this then I wouldn't be as far along as I am.
As I'm coming to the end of the bodywork phase and the mornings are much darker I don't know how much longer I'll do it for but I suppose doing a few simple jobs like connecting wires and parts would keep momentum going.

What do I need to look for when inspecting leaf springs?
Also what about painting them, what's best?

Ivr just come in from the garage, I started off with gaps that were a little off but I got it to 5mm on the frames and 7 next to the front wing and 8. I'm happy with the result - I'll just have to see where I'm at with the rear door.

It's all progress, ref the paint, it all depends upon what you want, while it's perfectly feasible to get a good finish at home it does take a lot of time and patience, if you want a top notch finish in a relatively short space of time then a pro is a good way to go. (just make sure you see some of his work first). For the doors I would make sure you have a reasonable gap while it's tempting to build the car up to modern 3-4mm door gap standards they were never designed for this and can cause all sort of issues, I've made this mistake and its far easier to cut and weld the edges now than regret it once the paint starts getting chipped off. Whilst the car is going to be used daily during the summer and the odd day over winter I'd like it to have the best possible finish. I'm not going for concourse but I want to be proud of the work that I or someone else has done to it. I'll bear that in mind as I'm going to fine tune the gaps over the next few days Jim How does the door sit in aperture without the skin on? If it sits square i.e. all the gaps are good and then you will need to fine tune the skin to the door rather than the car to the skin altering the car would be the wrong thing to do ask Grumpy for advice before you do anything would be the best thing? It's not far off, I picked up some shims this morning so I'll measure what gaps I have later and then apply the shims and retune it. I don't think it's far off though

This is the setup for my dragster. You need a bigger blower! 😂 I was watching the build, hows it going? What did you do about ignition ? I love the whole set up but I might struggle with the exhaust - who needs a bonnet!

Not a massive update but it has possibilities. Without banging the drum about the paintwork again I've had a chap come and quote for spraying a decent coat of colour and clear coated including the engine bay and the inner panels. Its tempting because I'll have a shell that's ready for stuff to be fitted. I need to get some more information etc but in the meantime I've decided to have a go sorting rear door I started reskinning. The inners have been cleaned, rust treated, prined and stone chipped I threw the inner on and have been playing with the fit for the last 2 days Its needed some trimming near where the outer meets the window frame and it's a snug her fit, it's hard to say that its exactly where it is because the skin lip hits the hinge so the plan is to shim the doors figment and get it as close as possible.

I'd like to do the revival even if it's the once because it's more immersive than the standard car show.
I haven't done Le Mans classic but I have done the full fat one 5 times and I've never had a bad time

Is Powdercoating to be avoided? I was thinking about doing this for some of the suspension parts, I'd also like to paint the front struts Yellow so I was thinking Rustoleom would be ok? Jim - Personally I don't rate powder coating for underbody / suspension parts at all - for all the reasons that droopsnoot has listed in the above post That makes sense - cost wise it was negligent as I had a quote from the powder coater I use as work but I'm going to use the cortina as much as possible so I'd like to keep things as clean and as simple as I can!

I have playlist of stuff that I called garage but ironically doesn't have garage music in it because it sounds like I'm pushing my toolbox down some stairs!
I've also started to listening to podcasts on Spotify like the clutch basket, overcrest and my dad wrote a porno

Just got all caught up. You'll get there dude, look at the state on mine! and my paint went on much worse than yours did. Bit of practice then get get plenty on and it will always flat off and polish up to a much better finish. Thanks dude, I thought you'd done a good job of the fasty! I'm back to wet sanding at 600 again - I'll give it's due, its been a fight to sand do it should be good against stone chips! I've found some very small freckles that I've not seen to this point which I've managed to get rid of but they're tricky to see nevermind photograph! More interestingly I was on a business trip last week in Denmark - I managed to find a hotel with a classic car meet 2 mins away!
