Thanks fellas, you'd think at this price it would be gone quick but it's gone back to ebay for a second week without so much as a viewing?? I guess everyone's feeling the pinch but this car is worth every penny, where else do you get so much bang for your buck? Couple that with electric everything, air con, comfort and the lovely factory recaro's it seems such a bargin. Oh well just keep waiting for that lucky guy who has a bit of cash to come and drive the old girl away....soon I hope, the scimi needs a lot of work. and as we all know work=money!! ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) I know the feeling of having your pride and joy for sale with not so much as a "hello" in months of trying to sell it! A few years back when I had my Saab for sale it was a prime example of a well cared for car, clean as, uber reliable, all the extras ect but just couldn't shift the thing even tho I had it up for sale for half the price I paid for it (and I paid a fair price really) I put it all down to the following: As MartinC states the age, too old but too new (if that makes sesnse??) Which as most of the people in that catagory are looking for something to just run about in, and their usually looking for something which has above average mpg and a cheap insurance group. The fact probably that in general the Rover brand doesn't command the money in the second hand market and have a generally less than great reputation (rightly or wrongly so!) doesn't help. The youth of today seem to go German or even cheaper French/Italian and if its a Rover its probably going to be an MG for them! As I say i know the pain, because iv'e been there! 2.0 Turbo, around the same bhp with TnT (slightly younger car age) and yet couldn't even get someone to view it (irionically the first person who did snapped it up) I'd say (now for the positive bit) If you can get it on a specialist forum aswell, as most of the poeple here would agree, it's a fantastic looking car and clear (as I think you've had it up for sale before??) your very much proud of the thing! Don't give it away, even if you have to stick another 6 months tax on because someone eventually will surely see it and go "yeh......thats nice....lets have a look!" and see how it goes from there! (although even with 6 months tax you'd probably only still get the 650) If however your in a rush and would rather get rid of it sooner, possibly lower the price to say if I was you (around 525) that way basically including the next tax). Its hard, and iv'e just reliased how much ive rabbited on here but unfortunatly with the way fuel/insurance/tax its a waiting game for the right buyer (uness you lower it like I did and ![:'(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cry.png) as you see it drive off for a bargain price!!!!!) GLWTS ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

Have seen this over on the Uksaabs site and must say I think its fantastic. The interior is a bit.....out there, but the car itself looks very retro indeed!
Unfortunalty like most people atm i'm a bit skint so can't even offer an offer which would be close!
These cars like you've said in your description above is retro comfort with a degree of safety and certainly looking at old cars that I have been doing I would prefer a Saab in terms of the safety aspect they fitted at the factory.
Seems like a cared for example tho! (from my lounge chair that is lol!) if you don't mind me saying! I don't know what it is with Saab's but when I owned my HOT 9-3 it felt different to other cars, I think probably just an enthusiasts thing but makes you want to tune it untill its perfect!
Shame I wasn't closer and had more money!
GLWTS tho!

Cheers for that mate - all of those thoughts have gone around my head. To put it through MOT is going to cost me the cost of an MOT, as I say, it only failed on emissions, and I'm 90% sure it's the O2 sensor which I have sitting in the garage ready to go on. To do the welding properly would cost me about £70 per side for a part panel, then the cost of paint, materials, etc. So that would run me around £200 I guess, plus time. The MX5 restorer once quoted me around £400 for the welding with a blended paint repair, not sure if his prices still stand, but he does a good job. The reason I started to doubt it, and thinking about breaking, was that I had it in my head that the car in good condition as was, would be worth around £2k, and then say around £2.5-3k with the SC conversion, but then I started to see the odd FI'd MX5 for around the £2k mark, and it seemed that I would be spending money for zero gain (as far as selling went). So at that point I shelved the SC project as I was convinced I'd be selling, and didn't bother spending out on a MegaSquirt, etc. I think if I get it MOT'd in the coming weeks that may change my mind about it, as once the weather gets nicer and I can get a few of the jobs sorted, then it will be 100% sorted. Trouble is, I said that last year, lol!! No problem! If its not the 02 sensor tho try the injectors, had a part blocked one a few years back and threw the readings off even tho it wasn't that rough! Just a thought incase it doesn't work! You could try selling the SC bits now freeing up some cashios, leaving the welding if its safe enough, getting the Mot done, wing it round untill the height of summer and sell it easy peasy ;D (all in a perfect world but hey!) Everyone loves a convertable in the summer!!

Don't forget the time part. Doing the job twice is never a pleasant prospect. What car is it? Maybe eBay will be your friend in this case (FWIW, I got a complete Janspeed stainless exhaust system for my 106 GTi for £70 including the decat pipe. Whilst I know not all jobs can go as smoothly I reckon it took me less time to put the entire system on than it would have done to be fixing my existing system (it took me about 20 minutes to mount and finish putting on that exhaust system). I did consider getting some off the bay before (and thats a decent price you paid for that!) I had seen one for around £15 + postage(£12) which looked pretty new but I don't have ramps atm ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/sad.png) and a slanty drive! but can fit under it while its on the floor whilst stretching! (just about)....it was a pain but most of it has been patched pretty well, just need to get something to make it look a bit more finished really! The thing thats always put me off doing exhausts in the drive too is if I can't get it off! I don't really have resources to get it to budge if it fails!! Thankyou for the input tho

Seriously? How much is a new silencer? By the time you've finished messing about you may as well have put a new one on it. Two big jubilee clips, a roll of aly tape, and a tub of exhaust paste from halfords would set you back the best part of £50, and would probably make a decent job of covering the hole for a few hundred miles, maybe 1000 if you are lucky. What would a new exhaust box cost? ....around the £50-60 quid mark fitted? Iv'e paid £3 for the gum and I'm going to spend another £3 on some exhaust tape.....so £6 Its not really that bad so don't want to replace it while it's still got some miles in it, just wanted to smooth it over. Thanks for everyone else who posted, much appreciated! Have seen the tin can effort before but thats probably for something a little bigger than the repair I need (about the size of 5p's if that!) but handy to know!

If I was you then i'd see if it you can get it thru it's MOT without spending too much on it (you said you already had some of the bits for it too?) and then if so chuck it on a dedicated MX5 forum (and here too of course!) for around the 2.5k mark (to fetch 2k) with the sc bits included that way you'd save yourself alot of effort from breaking and to keep it intact, and for that kinda money with the nicer seasons coming up its basically a kind of mini project with parts for someone at a decent price. Plus you also then have the option of selling the SC bits seperatly and lowering the overall price if need be! If however the MOT cost more than £500 (which from what you say isn't likely) if it did, then possibly just focus on the selling seperatly? only problem with that is selling a car just for parts takes a long time and you will probably encounter a non payer or just basically the awkwardness of listing packing wrapping sending and then getting lost in post/damaged/returned ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/sad.png) Not saying that would happen alot but unfortunatly it can with the sheer amount of items. So basically if it was me, personally, probably try for the MOT and then see how that goes! maybe take it to a reputable place that deals with rust repair place to see how much it would cost and factor that in to the price if no luck? Just a few ideas!! (knowing me tho probably the wrong ones so be wanred haha!)

Whooahh the rust/stone covered parts under the bonnet! The joy imo of retro cars is taking something like this which you can tell has been a family car for a long time(getting it thru mots for everyday use ect)and keeping it on the road for that little bit longer. GLTWS ! p.s that interior looks in good nick for its age!!

Got to be totally honest with you, Mazdas I know little about in terms of value (more of a Saab guy) but that looks mint! Obviously the thing that would or could concern people is the rust specifically on the sills but it would depend how bad it is really as to what the repair cost would be and what the car would be worth or as you say if it would be better breaking it. How much btw did you think it would be worth if it was sold for parts if you don't mind me asking?
The small dents, alarm, slow windows ect are all minor problems really, it looks amazing but I think your best bet selling it would possibly be a specialist forum. I want to suggest a price here but I think id be doing yourself an injustice as when i was looking at ones a few years ago they varied from 600 - 1200 and the difference was immense in terms of what you got (quality/age) but this with the mods really make it alot nicer that those!
Good luck whatever you do with it tho!

Think thats a decent price for it to be fair, even as scrap/parts if it all goes south it'll still be worth a try!

Thanks for the replies guys!
Ive tried the bandage technique from the kits before with no luck but over the gum it might create a better seal (that and I soaked the bandage by accident last time!!)
Althoughhhh....ive just seen some alluminium tape which is heat proof, water proof, rust proof ect that may be a better cheaper way to cover the gum just to creat a tighter seal. The gum stuff although from what people on here have said and ive read isnt the longest lasting thing but having prepped it pretty well with sanding and stamped it on using different spreaders I'm hoping it might hold for a while longer. Plus it'll be cheap! (3 quid or so!)
Out of interest this silicone stuff, how much are we talking about? is it specifically for exhausts?
Thank you once again for the replies!
