SAAB 900i 1986 with OE stripe set
Only one other UK car that I know of left with this stripe kit and that has recently been moved abroad following full restoration.
I am sadly addicted to this car. A true labour of love ... and pain in the backside for my other half!
The 900 is the model of Saab that both saved and then crippled Saab because they were pretty much hand built
due to the 'over-engineering' See here if you've 4 minutes to spare: Apologies for the dodgy music!
I can and have been known to go on far too long about the genius of the engineers that designed these unique vehicles
... the doors that wrap around the shell for safety (and the clunk that they close with)
... the wishbone front suspension
... the engine sat back to give even weight distribution so that the handling is so much more balanced
... the cockpit style wraparound windscreen with the quite upright V shaped A pillars to give maximum visibility whilst giving amazing strength:
... the space to do what whatever. I've owned 5 of these 99 / 900 cars and the last 99 saloon I sold to a musician with a double bass. He just folded the back seat down and the passenger seat forward to slide the bass straight into the boot!
... snow is not a problem - it just keeps on going when lesser cars are stranded
Saab bought the rights to the Ricardo designed engine (versions fitted to Triumph Dolomites) and then reengineered it to add reliability (and Bosch Fuel injection) so if you are one of the many who have worked on these then the engine will be familiar to you.
Increasingly rare for sale, especially this flatfront style but all parts are very much available through the very helpful network of online and UK clubs
I purchased this car when it had been laid up in a garage for what I'd guess to be over a year following it's windows being smashed in by Brighton vandals. It was obvious that it'd had owners that cared about it but was in need of someone to spend some time bringing it back to life.
After swapping the battery for one I'd brought and removing the cobwebs that were right across the steering wheel, it started on third turn of key!! After the changing of a couple of bulbs and a top up of brake fluid, I drove it home 180 miles with the windows missing!
Fully functional and very solid. Obviously had waxoil treatment in the past but is ready for another coating with the stuff.
Alloy head on engine so is happy with unleaded petrol - really likes Tesco 99RON!

MoT til April . No Tax (SORNed it from the beginning of January) But I could assist with taxing it (for the additional cost of the tax)
Priced only to the point where I feel breakers and banger racers might be discouraged.
Power steering
Central locking (inc boot)
Two Original keys (fit all locks)
Electric Aerial (OEM Saab black one)
Original optional extra Philips 'two way' parcel shelf speakers (surprisingly good sound)
New Pioneer 'two way' dash speakers (behind original grilles)
Kenwood CD Radio
Original Saab tool kit (see photobucket pics)
Original Saab bag for holding a punctured tyre (see photobucket pics)
Stripe Kit (in the end they're stickers so if they're not for you then they can be removed)
In the 8 thousand miles that I've owned it:
Full exhaust system (exc. manifold but inc. gasket and rubber hangers) 900i based front section, Turbo spec centre section and Carlsson spec rear section. Sounds warm and deep.
Headlamp wipers and washers (OEM)
Alloy Radiator (OEM)
Fans (OEM)
Bosch Silver Top Battery
temp sensor
both front handbrake / calipers rebuilt inc. replacement passenger side caliper/piston
various door and window rubbers
thermostat
oil and filter (OEM)
fuel filter
EGR system reconditioned
Distributor Arm and Cap
Bougicord spark leads
NGK Spark plugs
Turbo16S Suspension springs (all 4)
Windscreen wiper blades
Windscreen (Brown Tinted)
Front door windows (both)
Drivers door lock cover
window winder mechanism
Rear Sachs Shock Absorbers
New Shaft for Electric Arial (OEM)
Hoses and clips
Various bulbs
Various relays and fuses
Rear passenger side wheelarch and shock absorber mount - rust cut out and rebuilt with fresh metal.
Bad bits - all minor but need to be attended to so that they don't become less minor:
It's a real world, 27yr old car. It's done 120,000 miles so has various minor blisters but it'll do another 120,000 miles or so if it's looked after!
I think you get a genuine idea of the condition from the photobucket pics
Chassis rails under the bonnet have surface corrosion (only surface! )on the top sides - need wire brushing, cleaning with oil removal stuff then splatting with a thick layer of hammerite. Plenty of room to get to these bits if you lift the battery.
Ten pence sized hole in the leading bottom edge of rear passenger side arch - garage should charge you £50 or so to plate this.
Headlining is of the bedouin tent variety. Material is complete but is held up with pins. Material on C pillars not so good. Doesn't really bother me but I've got to mention it. Was going to do it myself eventually as you can get the material for 20 quid or so plus glue.
These are all bits I would be doing but haven't the time that this gorgeous lady deserves - and that really is the only reason I'm selling. I'm sure I'll be having another. I just hope the prices don't rise too much by the time I get around to it - just have to make do with my other Saab
