commonly known as the EcoBoom engine.
wet timing belts, who's bright idea was that?! bits of belt come off and eventually the belt either loses its teeth or the oil pump gets blocked with bits of belt...
and thats if it hasn't melted a piston.

its not old, nor high performance?!
but for a car of that value, maybe try the owners groups on facebook, but otherwise certainly pistonheads and autotrader.

it will if you hold the button, it has to for the emergency function to work I believe, I've seen it in the C7 corvette and it does put the brake lights on.
never had a bad experience of them I have to say, though it has been limited to replacement of the cable on a laguna, which had traditional caliper, the motor looked identical to the one used by Landrover that I've seen taken apart and repaired on YouTube

had a similar fault on a kangoo van recently, it has a linkage system under the dash and a clevis pin under the glovebox had got rusty and seized up enough to hold the brakes on unless the pedal was lifted back up.

in this situation it wouldn't bother me whatsoever, I don't think I've ever bought a cat C but I have/do own two that became cat C (one I bent thoroughly myself a year later...) the other I ran for another year without even fixing it, just ran it as it was with a dented wing and tweaked inner wing, just tugged the wing back out till it didn't rub on the bonnet.
other factors took that car off the road since then, 8 years later the VIC scheme is long gone so I'm not sure what will happen when I need to put it back on the road..

once you have it all flat ish again have a look at the satchell engineering strengthening kit for the rear wishbone points.
I used to service for a wide tracked saxo that pulled the rear mount right out of the floor (it already had the satchell wide wishbones so those were not budging!)
Dave at satchell drew up the kit pretty sharpish and I think ours was the first car they were welded into, pretty straightforward to fit once the floor was folded and stitched back together, peugeot/citroen sport back in the day made a similar modification though not as comprehensive or easy to stitch on.

its not the compression that needs building up, its the fuel rail pressure, without a certain pressure threshold reached the ecu will not fire the injectors.
still a slow starter will not help, have you cleaned the earth connections?
not much you can do with a meter other than simple voltage tests, make sure you don't over charge and buckle the plates though

a £100 X reg astra estate with the DTI gm engine, had been sat for 5 years after the previous owner had a stroke then never recovered and later passed away.
it ran lovely, but the electronically controlled Bosch fuel pump had failed, bought it cheap to fix up, came with a new battery, kept the battery and sold it to a local scrap lad for £150.
otherwise, if they were curse word cars I just didn't buy them !

good point, none of the 1.9's got a dpf, some of the 2.0 did, all the high power ones do vu they are much later than mine.

yes its basically the same engine as the fabia, different turbo and injectors.
I have a 2003 pd100 1.9 SE, 247k on it!
the 2.0 engines in the transverse platform I think escaped the cam wear and oil pump issues that plagues the Transaxle variants like the A4 for some reason, not that its a huge issue, spares aren't expensive.
one thing I would like to do with a 1.9 is a mild map and a longer box off the 2.0, mpg is great if you keep the speed down, but if you cruise at 70+ its not that great, quite a notable difference to the taller geared higher power variants

A52 was not so much a community garage, rather a lockup where Bruce stored his hoard of stuff, and a community grew around the weekenders he hosted there, I don't believe anyone but Bruce had the keys at the time (other than the other guys renting other areas of the space, a BMW enthusiast and a stonemason, and the Daweoo guy)
A52 as a community still exists, even though Bruce has moved on and the space has been taken on by another member as it happens, with the aim to run a more professional rent a space to work/store your car business deal though Life and pandemic has put a dampener on that a little!

there's 3 (or 4!) temperature senders, engine to ecu, engine to dash (may be the same as the ecu)
exterior, interior.
if the engine really is running that cold (with a vag tdi, quite possible!) I'd change the thermostat first.

I thought all the rac/aa vans had those brale folding dollies in the back?
only time I've ever used the rac I told them he headgasket had gone, fountain out of the radiator cap style, recovery guy towed me the 17 miles home.

what model is it?
I've seen replacements for most, I also have one that also needs cells.
there are people out there offering rebuild services as you do need the spot welder to assemble the packs.
