My sisters' Y reg Rover 25 needs a new crank/engine and I can't find one cheaply enough to make it worth my while doing it, so I'm breaking it for her.
It's silver, the engine has a good top-end (only one big end has gone, I replaced the shell but as predicted, it still knocks!). 121k miles or so, electric mirrors, front windows and whatever else you get in a Rover 25 I guess!
Anyone want anything over the next week or so before it heads to Mr Scrapman?
If anyone wants the whole vehicle, it's MOTd until the back end of January - be quick and make me an offer!!
Cheers, Martin

Cheers, Martin

I've got a pair of Continental winter tyres (currently fitted to some shabby 7-spoke Merc rims, but they will be removed!) Very good tread depth, 6mm IIRC but I'll measure to make sure. EDIT: Contis are 'Conti WinterContact TS810' with 5-6mm tread left. 615Kg (1356lbs) load rating £50 for the pair I've also got a 3rd winter tyre (also on a 7-spoke Merc rim, again to be removed) which is a dunlop with similar tread depth, I'll confirm later EDIT: Dunlop 'SP Winter Sport' with 4-5mm tread remaining. Also 615Kg (1356lbs) load rating £25 £20 as it has less tread than I thought Finally I've got a 205/55/16 Michelin non-summer tyre (same rim story!). I'll check the tread depth later today and add it to the advert, I suspect it's 4-5mm from memory though...! EDIT: Michelin Primacy HP with 4-5mm tread remaining, again 615Kg (1356lbs) load rating £15 I bought these when I still had a Merc (a few months ago), but as my Lexus rolls on 18s and the GFs car, the Disco and Chevy run 15s (and the latter two would look silly with these tyres on...) I no longer have any use for them. Feel free to insult me with silly offers or make sensible ones, the response you get depends on my mood I can post a pair of tyres for a tenner if required. I'm shocking at sorting postage out though, so it'll take a few days if it's required! lol

The crank is shot on my sister's 2001 Rover 25 1.4 - I've (optimistically!) replaced the shells on the bad rod but as predicted it's not cured anything. It's made it better, but I'm still considering it to be shot! And it *definitely* is the big end, of that I am 100% certain.
It's a shame as it has no head gasket problems at all and aside from the knock it's a good strong engine.
I CBA changing the crankshaft out at the minute, I'll do that when I have more time after I've swapped the engine.
So, I'm after a lateish low mileage 1.4 k-series engine in good nick if anyone's got one! If not, there will be a Rover 25 for breaking in an advert near you soon!!
Ta ;D

Is the Dodge van a dayvan, or just a 'cargo' van?

I'm gonna hazard a guess that a 1996 Lexus LS400 for a grand (slightly negotiable) doesn't really fulfil the 'small' criteria. It is automatic tho, MOT'd 'til next May and taxed 'til the end of the month! ;D

Camshaft snapped so leaving valves open, hence lack of compression and easy to spin over perhaps?

If you'd offered me that before I bought my Discovery I'd have been sorely tempted - out of interest though, what size engine and has it got a towbar?

Might be worth speaking to Colin Appleyards in Keighley - when I was a student at Huddersfield Uni he ran a racing team or two - no idea if he still does, but even if not then he may be able to put you in touch with local people who do?
