The crank is shot on my sister's 2001 Rover 25 1.4 - I've (optimistically!) replaced the shells on the bad rod but as predicted it's not cured anything. It's made it better, but I'm still considering it to be shot! And it *definitely* is the big end, of that I am 100% certain.
It's a shame as it has no head gasket problems at all and aside from the knock it's a good strong engine.
I CBA changing the crankshaft out at the minute, I'll do that when I have more time after I've swapped the engine.
So, I'm after a lateish low mileage 1.4 k-series engine in good nick if anyone's got one! If not, there will be a Rover 25 for breaking in an advert near you soon!!
