Its certainly an individual motor alright and I think perhaps if we are unable to decide on the first letter of the word to describe its style, perhaps it merits a new letter altogether. So I propose that we pigeon-hole it as being done in the ‘Qustom’ style. I think you sir have just coined a new pigeon-hole ... modern cars done in a custom/Kustom style

Geez that was quite a nasty shunt Glad you are managing to fix it, its such a lush car - I love it! I didn't realise that a 'K' could hold such reverence, just cos the yanks couldn't spell - perhaps I need to learn more about the history of modifying cars For me it doesn't matter with what name you lable a car's style, its whether its cool or not and makes you excited when you clap eyes on it. When I listen to me Li'l deuce coupe album by The Beach Boys - although they sing about cars that are from a different era, the things that they describe I can relate to, growing into adulthood liking cars & modifying them & having like minded friends with whoom I go to shows & go drag racing. I suppose what i'm trying to say is that although styles & tastes in cars & subsquent modifications have changed & diversified over time the mind-set of all us car enthusiasts that like to tweek, tune & alter the appearance of our cars has stayed the same

OK, OK. Arrgghhhh. I didn't mean to be the newbie who comes in and upsets everyone. Can we still be friends? I'm afriad I'm going to stick by my view that the term Kustom when applied to a car is year and bodywork specific though. Kustom Kulture on the other hand is a relatively new invention and there's no denying your Nova has drawn inspiration from it. I remember a "Motorvation" piece in Street Machine probably 10 years ago with a drawing of a matt black Fiesta with red wheels, whitewalls, and baby moons. I though it was ace and just the thing if driving a modern car daily floats your boat. But I did hear grumblings from numerous other rodders, FWD rubbish and all that. I like to think I'm one of the more open minded ones. Anyway, Top man for doing something different with a Nova (and a park swing...) Now, strip the interior, fit a roll cage and one bucket seat, some real aerodynamic aids, find out what class it'd run in, add numbers and make it look like a proper salt flats escapee!

Hey no worries - everyone has their own opinions and the great thing about the guys on this forum this that your views will be respected even if they may not necesarily the opinion of another individual

Wasn't a dig mate, I just don't like labels thats all. My van is apparently "rat" look Which is great if thats what you want to call it, I just call it "mine". my beef isn't with the labels, it's with the need to label everything. I don't like to label my cars, cos you either get them, or you don't, there's little point me explaining and giving a terminology to my cars looks to please others. either way I still enjoy them.

I have tried getting involved on the outskirts of scenes, not easy and has put me off some 'scenes'. So i'm not a fan of pigeon holing really and appreciate how diverse this place is even though we have personal tastes.
However i think using bits or mods from the same scene, period, or style is just what our eyes and brains can deal with. Random bits and mods can look messy, so its difficult to strike a balance. i really wanted to predate my Sierra but its not really possible (i recon). Creations like this Nova and that hot rod Corona thingy test people, in a good way, genious. and i can live with calling em 'Qustom'. Nice one!

Hi,I've allready got that race thing with the other nova but it would be cool to turn up at next years speed week at the flats and watch there faces :osacrilage!! It's bad enough at avon park when most of the old heads are commenting on the hoosiers being on the wrong axle and then you blitz some 70's slingshot dragster only to return to the pairing lane where they cant even look at your car leave alone your face ;D ;D priceless!! Incidently the saloon ran a 14.7 there last year when it looked standard c/w fish badge and nodding jesus in the back window.

How about the weekend after, the 8/9 aprill hopefully a bit warmer then I was aiming for 8/9th April... weekend after that is easter weekend so Mumbles will be super busy. I'm moving to Bath soon (assuming another house purchse doesn't fall through) ... and there is talk of reviving the Old Severn Bridge Service meet up over summer. Would you be up for that? Yes that sound great, hopefully we can get a good turnout,Bridge is only 40mins away. Going back to the pidgeon holeing i'm more into glory holeing myself

wicked.. top stuff. Big fan of the issac hunt one, since it was red in 1.2-looking form seeing it beating a hot scooby at the pod at the first pv show few years back. Aye the novas are old enuff now to leave the maxxing scene and gain classic or classic-ing car status. Ive just swapped a '93 mk2 GSi for a '90 mk1 1.2 (and some cash obviously!) liking the older more 80's feel in the mk1 but do miss the gunt and few extra comforts. Look up seans mk1 gte astra thread in readers rides room for pics of my current mk1. Look forward to seein the blue-un racing again, and maybe the black one at some shows too..

All this talk of pigeon holes and scenes reminds me. A while back I had driven somewhere in the Imp, parked it up in an inconspicuous place (bearing in mind where I live that's the best way to ensure your wheels and windows are still there when you get back! ;D ), and came back to find a crowd of schookids, can't have been older than 15 standing next to it admiring it! I was shocked I can tell you! ;D Strangely enough they were into old VWs, (not many kids into VWs up this neck of the woods, actually not many teenagers into old cars at all up this neck of the woods!) and were asking all sorts of questions, it had caught their attention that it was rear engined (no idea how, either they were perceptive enough to spot the engine lid vents, had looked underneath and spotted the engine at the back, had some prior knowledge, or were typical Greenock kids and had attempted to open what they thought was the boot, looking for a petrol tank to syphon. ;D ) and were asking me if it was VW based etc etc, so although I would've much rathered they b*ggered off so I could get in the motor, I answered their questions, then one of them asks "Are ye doin' it up rat look mister?" (I've even attempted to write that in a Greenock accent so you get the effect! ;D), to which I had to answer "Nah, it's just f*cking knackered!" ;D ;D Needless to say they were quite amused, and when I told them a very abridged version of what I planned to do with it they finally b*ggered off and let me get on with what I was doing! ;D ;D Just reminded me that, although I'm aware it's a bit of an irrelevant tangent. ;D

The drag racer looks superb, and sounds like you've bruised many egos with it too ;D ;D The saloon one is very cool as well, especially the bench front seat!

you either get them, or you don't, i hate that saying as much as i hate cars being 'placed' in pidgeon holes. awesome pair of Nova's, loving that bench seat! Hope to see the drag car at the track this year - which class do you race in?

K(C)ustom Nova: FOR: Utterly inspired. AGAINST: The Foot air freshener. I hate those. SUM UP: Nutter. Work like that should be applauded. I have a cherry air freshner and a wcc air freshner(twin air freshners, wow)to go on as soon as it leaves my garage,i liked the colour on that foot cos i was going to paint the roof candy red metal flake but i cant be arsed now. Keefy it used to run sportsman et a few of years ago but then it outgrew the class so i ended up just doing rwyb,a brief stint at streetracer sundays(the only nova to be shown in a positive light in street machine mag) and the odd show like redline rumble(only cos i get free tickets). Pods to far for me (unlike you you lucky swine)thats why i'm always at avonpark but not much happens there
