Moon discs and satin black on a Nova a bit different but please don't call it Kustom! Depends on how you define your car 'Genres' - for me Kustom is short for customised which would include any car modified to express the owner's individual tastes, this would cover anything from a 30s Coup' to a bodykitted Saxo. Your'e right Rmad the saloon Nova (which I think rocks a big one BTW!) Is not really of the lowrider style - though it does ride low Its influences are Hot-Rod esque', indeed it has probably built more in-keeping with the spirit of the rodders of the 50s as the owner has taken an ordinary affordable 20 year old family saloon car & 'customised' it to his own tastes

OK, I think this is going a little off topic but I believe that kustom can only really be used to describe mid 30's's to mid 50's shape cars that have had a fair amount of body mods normally including a roof chop. It was first popularised by the Barris bros. though "custom" had obviously been around a while longer as anything done to personalise a car (you still wouldn't have called a rod a custom though, as its a rod - does that make sense?!) I never call my own Oxford a kustom, only a custom.
I agree that a satin black Nova with moondiscs has hot rod type influences and with a bit more work could even look like something that had driven home from Bonneville as pretty much anything and everyhing goes there...
This genre definition thing is tricky as terms get picked up new guys but I really feel that a sense of history of where terms came from is important, much like the Von-Dutch thread last week.

Hi,I agree it's not a kustom and never will be although i am heavily influenced by the kustom scene,it,s no suede 54 chevy coupe,49 mercury or era specific rod just my take on kustom kulture. Derby dan hit the nail on the head with the comment about the affordable 20 year old family thing car which is what true hot rodding is about,it's not about taking your car to Websters for a frame or having a £5000.00 paint job it's about using whats to hand and having some soul about it. I'll try to post some pics up later of the car so you can see the trouble I've gone to making it look non nova even though it's still a bit ill from impacting a Nissan micra Cheers Ade.

Luckily we don't need to go into styles and rules here, 'cos in reality it's only relevance is in description - not pigeon-holing or exclusion. I agree with your comments about era specific Kustoms Seth, but in the case of this Nova on this site at this time, it deserved the K...it's intentions (are rather it's owner's intentions) are clear enough. To merely adorn this innocent little Nova with the 'C' spelling is far too much of a generalisation. But you wouldn't get me describing it as a Kustom on HAMB or NSRA forums! Those worms can stay in the can! ;D

The dash with a lot of wiring hanging out due to some of it being damaged due to my other halfs legs hitting it in the crash My functioning bench seat on runners also. Awesome! Love the chain-link wheel, the Graffiti'd Jesse-inspired rear script, the bench, the Mexican blankets, the Moon discs, the old-school dash stickers - all those touches that show where you're coming from...that's what it's all about!
I don't want to upset Seth, but you can have your 'K', I think you've earnt it!
ps. I want to see a pic of the swing back on!

Cheers guys,The writing on the rear is actually painted on,most people think it's a sticker. Hotwire when do you think the next swansea/wales and west meet will be as my tub was in bits for the last one Yes the swing is back in situ as the solvent abusers up the park were missing it ;D. P.S look at the screen in the first pic,my head did that thick as pig shat me

How about the weekend after, the 8/9 aprill hopefully a bit warmer then I was aiming for 8/9th April... weekend after that is easter weekend so Mumbles will be super busy. I'm moving to Bath soon (assuming another house purchse doesn't fall through) ... and there is talk of reviving the Old Severn Bridge Service meet up over summer. Would you be up for that?

I think the mods and with the bench seat, i agree it deserves a 'k', but i don't want to get involved in genre/scene/style-councl politics! The cars wikkid! I'm mostly in favour of the fact it has been fixed in a cool style, rather than complain in a victor meldrew stylee about concil and leccy board owned stuff, like the man said though, the solvent abusers didn't mind too much! Legend.

Loving that. Bonkers mending methods A+++
The application of 'custom / rod' mods on a 2-door Nova is absolutely inspired. Outstanding.

Its certainly an individual motor alright and I think perhaps if we are unable to decide on the first letter of the word to describe its style, perhaps it merits a new letter altogether. So I propose that we pigeon-hole it as being done in the ‘Qustom’ style.
