Nice car. Thats the look i'm going for with my daily driver Vento. Sorted the black 14 inch steels, and got the 40mm lowering springs waiting to go on.

Yeah why not, stick some whitewalls and suitable cheap alloys from somewhere and it'll look great.

I'm a bit undecided on this one....................
I personally wouldn't class your Passat as Retro, however it does have some 'Retro' features - maybe it would help if you sprayed it either:
Matt black Red Oxide Grey primer
and lost the number plates, then I would say yes.
Just thought of something else - a nice roof rack 'donned' with a suitcase and / or a surf board.

If I rocked up in a K-reg Mondeo with biffed suspension and 3 out of 4 wheel trims missing, would that be allowed? I've applied a small sticka in one window to differentiate as a cool retro chariot as opposed to a skanky unlicensed mini-cab.

Hmm, maybe there should be a limit as to what can be called retro - only cars with a suffix rather than prefix perhaps (up to 'Y' reg), that would prevent a few arguments maybe? Would get rid of quite a few cars off the forum too, save on discussion topics, readers ride section etc etc................. On the other hand, maybe a daily driver type section, for those of us that have more modern cars as a necessity, but still like to follow the retro rules but just not to the extreme....

Balls to it. Retro is an attitude not an age.

I agree Retro is an attitude and not an age - I just don't believe that this shape Passat has reached Retro status yet.
On this note, I also don't agree with Retro'd modern cars either - MKIV Golfs etc........

I say yes.... ...Then again, I still say that it needs Moon Discs and whitewalls.... *n Now that would be coool Ordinarily I would say that this shape Passat (Mk4?) Doesn't fall into the retro catagory - however your Passat with its mods, represents the kind of style of car us 'Retro-Riders' love - so its a definate YES from me ;D

this is really interesting so its an attitude not the age of the car? i was going to rock moons but then changed my mind....but I'm still thinking about green or orange walls......? and i don't like black satin.....i prefer dark blue or maybe brown.....I'm still thinking of dark blue satin paintwork but i don't mind if it does go on stand or not, as i wouldnt want to upset anyone, but i thought it would be a good discussion point.

I've applied a small sticka in one window to differentiate as a cool retro chariot as opposed to a skanky unlicensed mini-cab. Can’t really disagree with that! Saying that we have managed so far without any sort of exclusion policy, it would be a shame to start putting one in place. I suppose a lowered Passat is better than a Vectra or summert but its getting pretty borderline in my view.

Well, I reckon if we start excluding people it would ruin what this forum is all about. A lot of people have said that this is the most chilled out, inclusive, friendly forum around and I for one want it to stay that way. Obviously if it was a Corsa with fairy lights and half a tonne of GRP sellotaped to it, the RR stand wouldn't be the place for it. But I think your Passat has enough subtle touches in the spirit of what we do (lowering, steels, etc) so as not to look out of place on the stand. I reckon it would carry off the Euro treatment really really well myself.

How about having a board next to the car, showing several photoshopped options of how it could look?
You could even get people to vote for which one they like most!
