Hmm, maybe there should be a limit as to what can be called retro - only cars with a suffix rather than prefix perhaps (up to 'Y' reg), that would prevent a few arguments maybe? Would get rid of quite a few cars off the forum too, save on discussion topics, readers ride section etc etc................. I don`t see why we are trying to exclude people, some people may be into the retro car scene but not have the means to pull it off with a retro motor practically. Under this rule we'd have to exclude DarrenWs MK1 GTi as it is too new!! It doesn`t matter if you don`t drive the "right" car, as Penski said, it's an attitude, a way of life. It'd be great to see the Passat on the stand, a practical car with personal touches in the spirit of what we enjoy. Save on discussion topics...WTF!!

Passat estates are cool Dark colours, clean all the curse word off them and slam them, losing doorhandles and rubbing strips is even better ;D If I could find a syncro (Actually quattro system) one I`d have one tomorrow....2.0 16v perfect daily, understated and very very cool..... The "Stick" Treatment and black steels sets it off perfectly ;D I love it Does that mean the "Rally slag" cant be on the stand either then

Firstly - congrats on trying to make something out of a Passhat, and the IMHO the ugliest of all the Passhats at that. That said, I love the ugliness... because they are ugly and unusual. Secondly - er, in my book NO-ONE's ride should be excluded cos as someone said, its an attitude not an age. Thirdly - they made Mk2 Golfs on that reg plate and they are MOST certainly retro (like our new Mk2 Syncro...yum). Fourthly - who gives a curse word what anyone else thinks. Oh, isn't that the whole "Retro" point? Fifthly - I think it looks bostin. Sixthly - Think of all the beer you could carry in one of dem!! Seventhly - you don't need a tent just sleep in the back Eighthly - no fairy lights or grp curse word from Halfords please. Although it might be fun to so adorn the matt black Marina with it Ninthly - It would give folks the right idea that we are 1) a bit hard up 2) love oddball cars and 3) stick two-fingers up at the whole Classick Car brigade Tenthly - Just bring it!!! ;D

I've said it before, the retro cars scene (and this forum for that matter) is as much about a state of mind and a style of modifying than a particular age bracket or certain models and brands of cars. Magazines like Practical Classics have went downhill fast when they tried to introduce an age or type restriction, where they used to be open minded and cater for all sorts, now they're run by elitists who think they have the right to call other peoples' cars curse word just because they come from a different decade, or brand, or country to their own favourite cars. That's how this place'll end up if we start allowing restrictions on what cars and opinions are acceptable, and if that's how this place turns out then I won't be the only one to find something else to do with my free time. Besides, who are any of us to tell a person that their car isn't good enough? The way I see it nobody's opinion on here matters more than anyone elses when it comes to what makes a car retro. I like Hillman Imps, Volvos, and Russian and Czech cars mainly, and I know for a fact that a number of you don't. That doesn't trouble me, and neither do I try to follow a herd and start liking cars I otherwise wouldn't. This forum has broadened by horizons, but that's a good thing, and I like Minis, VWs, American cars etc because they're cool, not because if I don't I won't be listened to. I like Ed's Passat actually, it looks quite nice, even if it's not a car I'd own myself. Some people aren't interested in it, and that's fine, I'm a big believer in freedom of speech and thought. If you don't like something, feel free to say so, but other people are quite within their rights to try to convince you of their side of the argument, just as you can do the same to them. I like this forum that way, it's much better than a forum where everyone just agrees that Beetles, or Minis, or Imps are cool, and that a certian style of customising is cool, and talks about nothing else. A forum like that would only bore me.
