One thing that has been bothering me with the engine installation was the cam cover breather system, or the lack of it, in summary, a piece of rubber tubing hanging down the side of the block, TBH nobody would have noticed or probably bothered, but it has been a mind worm to me, Scrolling thru FB marketplace I came across a new catch tank I had spied elsewhere, but wasn't willing to pay the price asked. this one was JIC-8 fittings, Black, Brand new, but half the manufactures asking price, and came with 2 new JIC elbows..... Result Now the issue with this was the fitting on the cam cover, its a push on fitting, I want JIC/Aeroquip type fittings, much searching, turned up a fuel fitting. with a compression O ring fitting, Bingo, www.ebay.co.uk/itm/301592619621?var=0&mkevt=1&mkcid=1&mkrid=710-53481-19255-0&campid=5338749392&toolid=20006&customid=GB_131090_301592619621.146649679390~2063328939752-g_Cj0KCQjwnMWkBhDLARIsAHBOftq3JFhxUcIhtsQG70mkHxRkm82BWyNzqAR_XqIxjpwX85UEHd5CBtMaAsHNEALw_wcBI was very unsure if this would work, but it did fit over the breather stub, and tighten up sufficiently, its not under pressure, so I'm using it,. I had to reroute a few wires and fuse holder to get the catch can where I wanted, but its in more or less where I envisioned it the pipe is a rubber lined black nylon overbraid with stainless steel inner braid, overkill, but it stays put when hot and close-ish to the cam belt, ably secured using D clips, and radiator retaining bolts that just happened to be in the right place, all I'm waiting for now is a breather cap for the can, which is, "in the post" i've been considering what to do for the oil catch tank for mine......this is a superb solution. what are you going to do with the smaller fitting next to it?

Part TRIOS, Had a week away to relax, and I must say....... I AM NEVER GOING ON A FU-KING CRUISE AGAIN. pure torture, Got back out and started on the dash, The drilled out trios of oversize holes that managed to irk me somewhat, have now been plugged so the dash is sort of back where it was pre cruise, its also clamped while the glue dries to try and remove the twist that had appeared, lets hope so,

Are the gauges the same as the Mk1 T2000? If so then that's a source for the fuel/water temp/amps cluster at least. Intrigued to see how rearranging the gauge cluster goes. I'd never considered it before, but it'd be handy on my Spitfire... the gauge I have is a triumph 2000, mk1, I was told the triumph range used the same impedance, how true this is, the will tell.......

Hope the next round of hole recessing etc. goes more to plan

Was the issue that the hole saws cut oversize? I've often found them to be pretty imprecise, wobbling around and cutting wide than you need to. I'd be tempted to either rout them out if you can find a suitably sized round thing to give you a guide, or cut them undersize and finish them by hand with a file/rasp.

The issue was no sleep, and then going out to do the dash when stupidly tired, which sort of led me to pickup the wrong pair of hole saws. fortunately it looks like I may have rescued my cock-up, I'm waiting for the glue to dry before I pick up the CORRECT size saws and hope it works.

Its sort of worked, the lands where the clocks sit are a bit uneven, but it wont take much to sort, But the tiny bits of ply concerned to plug the oversize holes do make me wonder if theres enough strength in them to enable me to clamp the clocks in place, I suppose theres always HOT GLUE, theres always a place for HOT GLUE if you follow my wifes DIY I suppose next will be Veneering, straight grained Wallnut or similar I'm thinking, I'm not overly certain about the suggestion of some sort of Burr Veneer, mainly because its such a sh-t to get a good finish without tons of filler, and sanding, most veneers seem to be 0.6mm so theres not loads to work with getting it smooth before going thru

I’m a nightmare when it comes to laying stuff like that out. I waste hours planning, fettling and faffing, then realise once I’ve finished that I’ve either forgotten something or put it in the wrong place. Then I spend a decade or so getting cross every time I look at it. 🤣🤣

Give it a bit of support & give something a bit more sturdy for the clamps ? đź‘Ť I'm on your wavelength already,This morning I been talking the the laser cutters, and have just ordered some 3mm thick steel rings that will slide over the back of the clocks and are 8mm wide, hopefully spreading the load Its going to be a pain as there is a substructure behind the dash which think will need trimming back to allow the Plank to fit flush, its going to need a bit of trimming in the 1st place to allow the 3rd clock to fit anyway.

Been waiting for my veneer to refinish the dashboard, seems to have taken forever, but it turned up just as we were off out on the lash last night, so with a wooly head I went out the garage this lunchtime to "have a looksy" well that never went to plan, it was incredibly hot out there, and I got a bit carried away, 10 feet of European walnut veneer, well, I couldn't resist really could I? Out came the aerosol sticky stuff, not the best Idea when you are feeling a bit delicate, I think beer and solvent fired enthusiasm got the better of me.., but I think its going to work, Now I'm off for a sleep.........

The sage continues, I have never been one for woodwork, I can, and do it quite well, but its not for me, I managed to get a few coats of polyurethane varnish sprayed onto the dash, and put the dash in my loft, the handy summer paint oven. Today after faffing around trying to work out relevant positions the idiot lights, I need 5 lights, I need simetry in my life, so Ill mount 6, and not use one, using washers I laid out ideas, Nope, don't like that, try another, better, I did a test try, drilling thru the veneer, really expecting the veneer to splinter and fly, then test fit a idiot light, sits like a boil on my b-m, grrrrrr, need to try a counterbore. sort of works for me, sorry about the atrocious tablecloth........... the counterbore seems to work, Meanwhile the clockwork keeps ticking in my head,----- I can use 6 idiot lights, ill relegate the hi- beam and oil pressure light to the bottom, if the oil light comes on...... its too late anyway, green indicators at the top outer, a charge light next to one of these, and the 6th and lastly....... its getting a white 6mm led behind a yellow jewel, which, when I have my injection fitted..... a shift light!!!! now for some more rubbing down and loads more varnish.......... Edit, I'm probably going to delete the volt meter, not sure, but its an idea, and why the charge light will be in plain sight.

Replaced the volt meter in my 1850 with an AEM analogue AFR gauge. Been pretty useful in tuning the carbs.

Last weekend, at a car show, My son in law managed to totally p-ssmeoff, the words were.you are going to hate me........... once you see it, you cant unsee it, some sort of a mind worm that he kicked off............ give him his due, that evening he searched Ebay and delivered me a replacment unit this afternoon. he is back in my good books now, all I need him to do is find some more problems on the car and get them sorted FOC
