Brand new followers take an age to bleed & go quiet .
Used to do a little bleed in a tub of oil before fitting , only took a few minutes then .
Bet youโre really thankful for all this advice after the event !! ๐
Running it up the road until the oils hot will help .

Its been a long time coming, but it at last has, after a fertive week in the garage, we got up early, walked the dog, packed up the Toledo, and headed to Eastbourne, apart from a pinhole in the header tank, ( which was sorted with a trusty Holts Dogturd) thats for those who remember..... the trek went well, and as we had not entered, sneaked into the showground?? quite a good show, but I forgot to take pics, sorry, well the dog enjoyed it I suppose the result of the day out was to decide I need to to sort out a myriad of rattles and funny noises, make sure I can hear a beeper on the indicators, ad infinitum

From my day out, One of the obvious things that this car needed was something better than the one interior mirror, It did gave a mirror hung the door frame which fell off within 10 mins of driving the car for the 1st time. sooo, not quite the lover of wing mirrors and mirrors that fall off, I could have gone down the road of big Tudor door mirrors, but again, I'm not a lover of these, I eventually went for Life Line formula mirrors, wide angle and glass lens, win win, I needed to get them tucked in and out of the way, I have a small triangle of metal at the front root of the 1/4 light, ideal, drilled thru that, which turns out to be hollow, made a quick crush tube and ended up with this, and as an added bounus, I can still open the 1/4 lite...

It looks good, what is the field of view like with it? as they are panoramic, and the image is smaller, my sight line looking in the mirror I can see the corner of my back wing and probably 35degs++ off of that too, I'm well pleased.

If someone had asked my opinion on these on a car of that age I'd have said "nope", but having seen them in place, they look really good!

One thing that has been bothering me with the engine installation was the cam cover breather system, or the lack of it, in summary, a piece of rubber tubing hanging down the side of the block, TBH nobody would have noticed or probably bothered, but it has been a mind worm to me, Scrolling thru FB marketplace I came across a new catch tank I had spied elsewhere, but wasn't willing to pay the price asked. this one was JIC-8 fittings, Black, Brand new, but half the manufactures asking price, and came with 2 new JIC elbows..... Result Now the issue with this was the fitting on the cam cover, its a push on fitting, I want JIC/Aeroquip type fittings, much searching, turned up a fuel fitting. with a compression O ring fitting, Bingo, www.ebay.co.uk/itm/301592619621?var=0&mkevt=1&mkcid=1&mkrid=710-53481-19255-0&campid=5338749392&toolid=20006&customid=GB_131090_301592619621.146649679390~2063328939752-g_Cj0KCQjwnMWkBhDLARIsAHBOftq3JFhxUcIhtsQG70mkHxRkm82BWyNzqAR_XqIxjpwX85UEHd5CBtMaAsHNEALw_wcBI was very unsure if this would work, but it did fit over the breather stub, and tighten up sufficiently, its not under pressure, so I'm using it,. I had to reroute a few wires and fuse holder to get the catch can where I wanted, but its in more or less where I envisioned it the pipe is a rubber lined black nylon overbraid with stainless steel inner braid, overkill, but it stays put when hot and close-ish to the cam belt, ably secured using D clips, and radiator retaining bolts that just happened to be in the right place, all I'm waiting for now is a breather cap for the can, which is, "in the post"

As I'm waiting for lots of little bits to arrive to bring things on a bit, I took a look at the dashboard, TBH I don't like it, it has auxiliary gauges fitted, none of which fall in my sight line or are totally obliterated by my big mits when driving, the wiring from a casual glimpse appears to have more scotch locks than Halfords it will be an interesting day when I dismantle the dash over the winter, what is obvious is the steering column is not central to the clocks, and you can see what I mean about seeing the aux gauges, the plan started to evolve when obtained a rough dash for not many beer vouchers, firstly fill what I don't need, then lay out my ideas, moving the rev counter over 15mm to put it in the centreline of the steering column. the plan seems to be delete the aux gauges, keeping the oil tho?, using what I think is a Triumph 2000 cluster, the beauty of that will be hookup should be correct, Ha Ha, and the plan roughed out in the car, its sitting a bit further towards me and should be back about 30mm, a couple of issues, one will be veneering the dash, I do have all 3 pieces, from factory it should be American walnut, possible, but what other suitable alternatives do I have, and what high temp adhesive options are there for applying veneer, then either French polish it, an option or just matt spray varnish, probably easier and more resilient, the other issue will be where to mount the oil pressure gauge, it may go next to the heater controls top right, but still obscured, by the wheel, and the oil pressure light, thats not even connected to the engine as theres no available source for the switch to get pressure, they have all been used,

Could you ditch the oil pressure gauge and replace it with a high pressure oil switch (25 psi?) feeding a light ( side repeater lamp?) on top of the crash pad above the tacho so it sits in your eyeline? If you want to keep the gauge then you could use a T-piece on the block. Brian

There is another option for fitting 3 clocks, which, if I could find one might work, enter the first generation of the dolomite/toledo platform, the Mk1 triumph 1300, I'm fairly sure it would fit the over the crash pad, as the front panel unscrews, it would be an easy conversion, Shoey do you have one ?

Well, I got up early this morning, after really bad sleep, or no sleep? and decided I would have a full day on the car, the Swimbo was out with the dog, full of strong coffee I started, 1st job was to re assess the dash layout, and see if it worked for me, simple really, it HAS to be better, get the hole saws out, and make a start on the original dash plank, yep, thats what its referred to within the small triumph fraternity, remover the bought layout of tape, and very carefully, marked up the dash, offered it back in the car, yep, that works still being careful, pilot drilled the dash for the hole saws, measured the depth of counterbore needed to recess the instruments flush, selected the correct hole saw and set the depth stop to where it needed to be, lets make some sawdust, (not my favourite job as I hate sawdust because of the fire risk. so I have sawn the counterbores and cut out a hole for the instrument to drop into, Now let me see if I have cut the counterbore deep enough, well that very deep, the instrument slipped right thru the plank, BUMHATS,seems I picked up the wrong saw, now, I'm not best pleased with myself in fact I had a rant with myself and withdrawn to watch TV for the day and now order another even larger holesaw to make 3 plugs, and I have noticed the once flat plank has taken a twist, and may not be a viable option now

No sorry, there's one on eBay from TD Fitchetts for 50 quid but just the bare shell, the switches are hard to come by.

Are the gauges the same as the Mk1 T2000? If so then that's a source for the fuel/water temp/amps cluster at least.
Intrigued to see how rearranging the gauge cluster goes. I'd never considered it before, but it'd be handy on my Spitfire...
