An unexpected win at an auction for a car I've dreamed of for a few years...
A rather rare car with extremely good bodywork and interior. Although I've already swapped out the aftermarket moto-lita wheel for my spare Minor one.
It has mechancial and electrical issues though!
- Slipping clutch. - Noisy transmission or diff. - Dodgy cooling fan wiring - on an engine with marginal cooling. ♥
- Headlights don't work. - Indicators flash weirdly - barely on for any time. Front-right doesn't work at all. - Interior blower fan doesn't work. - Dodgy under-dash switches do... things?! - Radio doesn't seem to have FM?! - Half finished sound deadening under new carpet. - Door mirrors wobbly. - I don't trust any of the crusty cooling, vacuum or fuel lines. - I don't really like the black and white Rostyles - but a rare 5x127 (5x5") PCD. - Tyres are slidey, don't trust them at all. - No rear seatbelts. - Front sealbelt springs need winding.
So it has begun...

Not great, and even worse for the 2200 (E6) variety!

I think it looks lush on those Rostyles!
Also, has the dash wood been treated to some kind of wrap or is that the grain it came with? Regardless, i tjhink it looks reet smart y'know!

As far as I know that's the original style, a walnut veneer by the looks of it, but restored at some point.

Another thumbs up for the Rostyles! Pretty sure that they are OEM fitment, and the silver highlights on black background echo the grille & headlight recess trims very well.

Aye the headlamp recesses have been brush painted on by hand without masking tape. I guess they were pitted.

Ah - fair enough! In the photo, they look much better from a graphic design point of view, and also more '70s than the full chrome bezels. I've seen others like that too, so perhaps the hand painting is just touching in the OEM paint? Is the colour Harvest Gold? Whatever it is, it really suits it. Ive always appreciated the engineering of the ADO17, however this is the first time I've seen one that I really like the look of

I recognised the colour from my sister's old Mini many years ago. Checked in Google that it was what I remembered - Harvest Gold. Look what appears on the first page of a Google search if you type in BL Harvest Gold...

Not entirely dissimilar to the BMC Australia Tasman and Kimberley.

Wow I grew up with these. Well the 1800 flavour. We had 3 of them. We loved them as kids soooo much space. I for sure would love another. Great colour. We had a Wolsey 6 in harvest gold.
I’d buy it if you were selling her.
Best of luck with it.
Ron.

I heve never been in one of these but I guess it is like a big Morris 1100 - there was an MG 1100 kicking around our fleet in the 70s in Rhodesia - was an amazing car to drive, These must be even better if they kept the hydrolastic suspension and dynamics of the 1100 - imagine a 2l 6cyl 1100! I think you need an air cleaner on there to avoid ingestion of the UK's occasional rain! Was there not some issue with the doors being used in lots of cars? Edit: not a fan of the Rostyles either plus the over-arched look does it no favours.
