Looks like you're doing a cracking job bringing them back to good useable condition - bit of patina never hurts anything on this forum! A tool chest is something on my list for once I get my garage built. Currently using a selection of wooden cupboards & drawers of various sizes/heights/rigidity which might well go up in flames with the worm-eaten roof timbers when the old garage comes down!

I've been transfering my tools over and this is pretty much full already! I think everything I want in it, is in it now though. Now it has weight in it a couple of the drawers feel like they need a little more attention. They don't feel bad, just not as nice as the others.

Seeing it in those last pics, it looks very similar, if not the same (from memory) as the set-up that a friend has in his works. Pretty sure that his is branded Beach too. Certainly something I am very jealous of, along with all the machine tools he has, some of which I am slowly learning how to use! If he doesn't mind, and you get chance, can you take a pic? If his is branded beach, did he import it? Does he know the history of it? I'm quite interested in what exactly was imported to the UK, where, when, and by who. Oh, hang on, I'm assuming your UK, you might not be! Yup, am UK - south coast. I'm hoping to see him in the next week or so, and will have a closer look at it. Some of his stuff was new to him, some is very old (e.g. a 1930s / 40s era gear cutting machine which he still uses). Could have been imported by him though, as in the '80s he was running a Class One offshore powerboat team which included events in the USA, and would have been very easy to cart something like that back with the boat & all its gear.

You’ve done well to find all those. I keep an eye out for non snap-on ones and all I’ve managed to get is a proto branded (same as craftsman and a couple of others) roll cab.
I do have a massive Hahn & Kolb machinists cabinet and a versatool or two, but they’re getting damn pricey now.

The proto is actually fairly similar design to the ones you have. From the research I did toolbox manufacture was a funny game at the time in the states, one manufacturers product could be sold by half a dozen different brands. Like these boxes were made by Waterloo Industries, and were sold under the Waterloo, SK, Kennedy, Craftsman and Proto brands.

I do have a massive Hahn & Kolb machinists cabinet and a versatool or two, but they’re getting damn pricey now. Lucky indeed! Especially considering how it all came about. I saw the base cab on ebay, liked how many drawers it had, then did a bit of research to find out who made it. I then searched high and low for matching boxes. The base cab was in ibstock. I found the gray top box on Facebook market place, in kettering, then found the 2 draw mid box also on FB in stoke on Trent. The autopro box, also from FB was in Moseley. Managed to arrange all collections for Friday afternoon and went on a bit of a mission. Unbelievable that all were available at the same time, they aren't common! However, there is another Gray top box on shpock right now for £40. He doesn't know what it is though, has no decal. I'm trying hard not to buy it. I don't need it! No idea why that's in the UK! Gray weren't imported. This one is only here as a mechanic brought it over when he moved here from Canada. The tool box liner I found on eBay (super bargain, 14 square meters for £14!). That was in Walsall, so managed to pick that up on the journey too. The plan was to probably sell one of the top boxes and my rubbish old boxes but I've filled all 20 drawers already so looks like I'll be keeping them all! I guess that's the problem with needing 1/2, 3/8 and 1/4. Metric, af, whitworth and BA. At least BA take up no space! I'm sure there is a proto bottom box on ebay at the moment, that or FB marketplace. There is a nice old Waterloo top box too (good Waterloo, not newer waterloo).

Yes, there was quite a bit of badge engineering at that time.

The other odd thing is all these older American boxes seem to be in the Midlands. The one I just sent you the link to is too.
I'm still seriously tempted into the one I sent you, but I don't really need it. Buy it or I will!

I can't find the proto box now, shame. There has been a nice gedore on ebay for a while though. Same style as the 2 I believe you sold on here a while back, but all drawers.

I’ve seen that Gedore, it’s reasonable but I don’t need it and there’s no profit it it by the time I’ve picked it up. Replied to you Pm too.

I was tempted but then I found the autopro base and went that way. Finding a matching gedore top box would have been a mission!

Do you know anything about old taskmaster stuff?
I have my step dad's old taskmaster top box. I always assumed it was cheap, but looking at it with new eyes it seems pretty good! I have a few taskmaster tools too which also seem quite reasonable.
Cant really find much info though. It will all be late 1980s stuff I guess.

Anything Gedore that isn’t spanners and socket sets and a few other basics like Allen keys is rare. Afaik they never made a top box. I’ve got a Gedore panel hammer that is apparently super rare.
The adjutant roll cabs seem to never come up for years then there’s a bit of a slew of them (like the pair I got).
Afaik taskmaster was a similar sort of level to craftsman, possibly another ‘in house’ brand like craftsman was for sears. Don’t think I’ve even seen any of it over here though.

I hadn't even found that it was US stuff. I'll take some pics of my taskmaster stuff one day. It looks cheap (or at least the logos do) but on inspection, seems good. Sort of halfords pro, sealey pro, Clarke pro type quality.

It might be a bit of an assumption on my part, I don’t know? Maybe becuase the taskmaster logo looks a it cheap in the way the craftsman one does.
There’s a taskmaster toolbox on eBay at the moment but it’s just a basic cantilever job.
