For Porsche specialist in your area Autofarm in Bicester come well recommended although some say they are pricier than other specialists and Wrightune in Wallingford also have good reports.
I do my own work on the Boxster and have found its fairly easy after all its just a car, a great one but still just a car. A bit easier access on mine compared to the 996 though due to the reverse position of box and engine.

I’m trying to find a 97/98 C2 manual, these most likely had the double row IMS and cable throttle making them quite a rare motor... I could be persuaded to sell my early 99 cable throttle manual c2. Lockdown and revised working patterns mean I won't use it much. forum.retro-rides.org/thread/211606/1999-porsche-911-carrera2-3Thanks for the kind offer Matt, if I had your car I would go the other way to make it a show queen as it’s such a great car with provenance and the value of it is only going up. I’m more after a car that requires TLC so I can go Outlaw or stripped down B road blaster... I hope you will be asking strong money for yours where I’m looking 10K max for the right canvas..

Bourbon .... JD Apple, I was given a bottle by my GF to cheer me up as apparently I was miserable on Tuesday..... that be due to 11 hours of Zoom sessions I guess!, it is rather nice with ice and fruitcake with a nice mature cheddar, that’s righ you read it correctly, give it a go and let me know!!!
Enough of my culinary weirdness, went for a spin on Sunday and kept hearing a fatty noise when stationary, as luck would have it the eurocup GT stainless system on my car has a couple of mild steel sleeves that join it together and one has decided to start blowing...... five minutes on the design911 website had the parts ordered, debit card assaulted and the promise over a 48 HR delivery which duly happened. I also ordered new stainless steel tailpipe clamps as mine are different and one pipe messes with my OCD big time.
I’ve soaked the bolts in penetrating oil and have the use of a four poster on Monday so watch this space....... I’m also planning on taking the front bumper off as I have some ducting to replace and may start to remove the air con system starting with the condensers.
Back to that cake!,,,, thanks for reading.....

Good stuff! For specialist work, I found EMC Motorsport in Saltley, Birmingham genuiuses with 944s. They were working on 996/986s long before their prices started creeping up, and compete with them in the Porsche Cup series etc. They're reasonable on price and thorough in their work. Just don't expect a pleasant receptionist there . That said, IMS failure is rare, and is more of an issue on infrequently/low mileage cars .

Cotes du Rhône villages ..... I’ll be reaching for the gaviscon in the morning when this bad boy starts to hurt me, not a bad drop but I’m not a french wine man personally, find them a little to tart and no real roll of taste, more in the nose than on the pallet ..... what do I know anyway 🤡 No photos but the new exhaust clamps installed without drama, in other breaking news my plan to remove the air con was met with a ‘ just get it pressure tested first and see how bad it is’..... Swiss cheese is how bad it is. Remember that wether a few weeks ago when the game was to see how much you could sweat before looking like you had wet yourself..... That and a few words of advice have seen a plethora of parts ordered from rock auto in the US of A after hearing many good reviews from retrowarwick of this very parish...... a pair of condensers, numerous grommets and an accumulator/drier, have to say including shipping saved circa £100 over a couple of the U.K. suppliers I usually use. Wheels......... I have been going on about these for a while and they have become my nemesis, a set I want on flea bay the vendor will not ship and I do not want to do the 450 mile round trip in case they are bent or buggered in some other way, I purchased a set of M5 throwing stars for my E34 last year described as mint, no welds or buckles and the only use they have is as an anchor. I have my head set on bronze or gold and nearly ordered a set of Bola B1’s until my trusty mechanics said they were to Japanese and drifty so I have ordered some other gold rims with a polished lip..... WATCH THIS SPACE.... all being well if they have them they should arrive this week. In other news the GF’s Cooper S is having a coolant leak investigated tomorrow plus a remap and smaller supercharger pulley 😈 the coolant like being an excuse to get it in the garage..... As soon as the package from America arrives I will be hiring ramp time to do the spannering as I also need to replace some plastic ducting that has cracked...... Have fun and stay safe.......

Liking those, a nice contrast to the green. In answer to your earlier question I haven't done a thread here as my Boxster is an '04 so too new for here and haven't done one on Boxa.net as there are too many better cars on there and i'm easily shamed

I voted for gold so I'm claiming 000000.1% of the credit for the awesome outcome.
Any chance you could lower it ever so slightly?

And, I'm no detailing fan but every so often I'll spend hours detailing our cars and the results are excellent and the results last for 6 months.
Inbetween that you can just go to Tesco and rinse it with the jet wash.

Thank you ballbagbagins, it already runs the Porsche lowered suspension kit, maybe high as it just came off the trolley jacks. If I ran 19’s I would get less gap but theoretically a rise in ride height which is the wrong direction for me, it may not look it but it is as low as I would want to go as speed humps become a navigational nightmare I.e I plot drives to avoid them..... It would be interesting to try and fit air ride, but I’m to old school preferring pace and grace over looks and attitude if that makes sense..... As a side note just spent a pleasant few hours looking at a friends collection of E36 Alpina BMW’s........

More fun today 101 projects for your 911 says bumper removal is a 30 minute job leaving time for tea and cake and a gentle stroll in the park afterwards. Battle berg rule of thumb make it a 2 hour job and be prepared for physical injury.... Many many seized and corroded bolts were removed to get me to this... Two reasons for this job, number one to replace the damaged air intake with the spare that came with the car, and secondly to replace the condensers to hopefully have magic cold air to keep my beers cool. Below is the offending cracked intake duct.... Safe to say once removed no one has been here in 20 years judging by the foliage.. Quite a rewarding job to do if time consuming and tricky without a ramp due to the access underneath the Car, the condensers will be done later this week as the Porsche tax o rings at 2.20 each plus VAT and shipping are winging themselves to me. Oh that replacement air duct I mentioned is for a 997 and the pair for the 996 are close to £200 shipped and not listed at RocAuto in the US so will do some digging as without them I am immobile!!!

Great choice on the wheels - I had hoped you would select them from the options you were looking at. The zunsport grilles do a good job of protecting the radiators and keep a reasonable amount of detritus out of the ducts too even if they are a pricey option. That’s a valiant effort of vegetation collection but not a patch on the compost bin that was in the oil cooler duct on my 944- I think the P/O must have enjoyed verge trimming as a hobby!

Back to the Garage today for the Condensers as I am working long Days covering multiple time zones, however I was sent a few photos including below which shows the detritus collected between the condenser and the radiator... The other photo which I cannot move to the iPad had snails growing on the radiator!!!! Hopefully the regas will show no leaks tomorrow so I will be back to nice an cold otherwise it all comes off to increase airflow through the radiators. I have also sourced a right hand air duct from a Boxster which has the same part number so fingers crossed, I will fit that at the weekend with the lower windscreen surround I have If the weather permits and the BBQ I have been invited to does not happen so I won’t get utterly ruined!!! I am still loving the wheels and have caught the car at some strange angles which really accentuate it.....

Air Con update
It now keeps my beers cool, so success in that department. The replacement air duct arrived so I fitted that this evening and the front bumper which was an absolute pig as a one man job.
I have also ordered some oil for the front diff so I can service it as I suspect it may only have had one service if that in it’s life......

Evening I’m to young to remember but to old to forget Hancocks Half Hour, fortunately radio 4 extra has several episodes on catch up, why is this of some impirical importance? None really, however I drove around for an hour today with the air con working on full tilt While avoiding cyclists and a specific w4nker in a BMW who tried to side swipe me while pulling out of a BP garage...... I think he gave me a ship to shore message of raise the mast out of his window or he was showing me how to toss a pancake in a frying pan? So the air con kept my San Miguel tepid and ebbed me closer to the conclusion that the country roads in Oxfordshire are positively curse word.... great for my 4x4 but trying to push on in the Porsche is a choppy experience and threading between pot holes a fing nightmare..... I have reached a crossroads with the 911 now, my list of jobs will be done after Monday’s diff oil change, I have to decide whether to rebuild the engine or do remedial IMS AND RMS Instead but that will be 2021 expenditure but in all fairness that is a peace of mind or performance enhancement and not a necessity. I’m thinking of putting the 911 in storage and pulling out my 530 or maybe rather then a massive expenditure which I’m nervous of due to the way of the world currently looking for a pug 306 cab or SLK/CLK project...... Thoughts?

A 911 is a daily, why would you ever put it in storage? As for too low... have a look at the boys upgrading their GT3 and RS suspension for KWV etc and throw that on. Instant lows and no problems with speed bumps, well maybe a little front splitter scraping but nothing to worry about. Drove mine daily so man up! As for the wheels, revisiting the pictures above definitely the right choice. Looking forward to he next instalment. P.

Err a bit too late, but the front end is the same as 986 Boxster. A firm called Douglas Valley Breakers are a favourite among the Boxster financially challenged owners group (includes me). The 996 and Boxster share a lot of interior components as well up to the B-pillar.
When Porsche brought in a consultant from Toyota he found they were literally going to parts bins to find stuff and there was little modularity so when the 9x6 series were made they started using common parts which helped them from going under.
