Picked this up the other day as my new daily. Loved the Renaultsport RS220 for the last 3 years but now my mileage is uber low, I had the opportunity to consider a 911. Spotted this at a local Porsche specialist-dealer. Not my preferred exterior colour or trim but bought on condition and service history.

Great cars for the money. Lots of cr@p spoken of them, but a lovely car to drive. John

Not my scene at all but a very underrated car (I have several clients with 993 / 996's) and probably now is the right time to invest in one - they are only going to go one way in value

Love these cars. An early one would be my choice and has been on my radar for many years. Funnily enough I was next to a 996.2 in the Petrol station the other day and it sounded fantastic. Being a 99 model is it cable throttle or FBW version? Any interior shots?
This is certainly on my “one day” list along with the DB7. Ive spent a lot of time driving the newer 991 models but these 996s, there is just something about them.

Not a car I would buy and own ( my back and joints are too knackered )
But man, I live to see and hear them.
As Chris says, and I suspect there is a certain amount of wisdom in that, now is the time to buy and own one, it will make you money when the next itch dies came along, unless you become a very long term keeper.
What colour would have been your choice?

It was registered April 99 so not sure if it's cable or FBW. Only bought it Friday then have gone on hols Saturday morning. I'll do a more detailed post when I'm back. Colour preferences - not too fussed on paint but would have loved the dark metallic green (fern I think) but that only seemed to be on cabrios or tiptronic cars. Light grey, tan, or red leather for the interior. Silver with black just seems to be the most monotone combo but the advice with these porsches is to buy on condition. This was also very local so didn't have to trek around the country. They also say don't buy the first car you see 🤔. But this dealer came recommended and I'd been web searching car for about 3 months. The price and history made it a sensible option.....and comes with a warranty.

Lovely looking 911, I walked past it in the car park this morning! Small world.

A 911 has always been on my bucket list and this one has all of the classic lines without the add ons that a lot seem to have.Closest I've got was a 944 and several Beetles! Your 912 Covin was a lovely looking thing too. 😀

I was never a fan of Porsche, then I drove a GT3 on a track day, mind changed! Nice looking car you have there.

I would have had a hard time buying that then immediately going away on holiday...would have been jonesing the whole time to get back home to start playing with my new toy. Has it had the IMS bearing update? Probably other readers are thinking, "We were wondering who'd be the first to$$er to ask about the IMS bearing..." John

John Just for what it’s worth and for anyone interested in anything hit by the IMS rumours be that Boxster or 911, the early cable driven Porsche’s are fitted with a far more reliable and desirable “twin row IMS bearing” so something to look for.

Twin row IMS were fitted up to MY2001 in 996's, so well into 2000 registered cars. You can google for the exact engine number switch to single row IMS. So it's not just cable throttle but FBW too.

This is the dreaded IMS bearing that was removed at 109k. Not bad actually. Apparently has a LN engineering upgrade fitted.

Nice Porker !
The IMS thing is waaay over exaggerated. It affected mostly low mileage cars that weren't 'driven' and even then less than 8% of cars world wide. Any car with good mileage on that hasn't gone pop, won't now. The 3.4 major worry is bore score causing piston skirt failure and spectacular internal carnage. Bore scope can be DIY with one of those cameras that link to your phone (which by the way are brilliant).
