Bloody great news. Finding boost where there was none is the best feeling ever. Congratulations
When I bought my 9000 it had no boost. I had never driven a 9000 before either. I drove it 70 miles home like that, let it cool down and re attached the actuator arm.
Took it up the road and I'll never forget that first woooooooooooot. Great fun.
Oh, wheels: deffo anthracite not black. Wheels always look better with a contrast to the car.

When the exhaust is back on it may well be a bit quieter now that more energy is being used up in the turbo.

Woo hoo !! 15psi spring then as it didn't blow up... I'm actually thinking... I can get the new gate with either a 7 or 14psi spring in it.. I'm wondering if to just go straight in feet first (not like me I know) and order it with the 14psi spring in rather than using the 7 and bleeding it off to run 14... Need to do a proper drive when exhaust is back on to see if clutch will take 14. That will be the deciding factor Absafragginglutely !!

It certainly came as a shock when I planted throttle and boost gauge shot round.. almost didn't seem real I've been waiting for that long haha And I do like an anthracite wheel.. but I've been saying black on black on black since the start.. will have to have a play on Photoshop and see what it looks like in reality.. Cheers

Glad you enjoyed it.. I've had moments of feeling like giving up. Problem is I'm that stubborn I'd rather see summat through than bale when I probably should have... Taking on a project this big with a young family certainly hasn't been my brightest move. But there is definitely light at the end of the tunnel now.. And yeah. Looks similar to what mine was doing.. not a lot haha. Someone will buy it. Would make a proper turbo for a ls swap or similar. Il stick with the Ching Chong spinny thing haha

Well managed to grab an hour tonight once I'd got kids down. My little 3 to 4 inch adapter turned up for the downpipe so that's first job.. New vband on the turbo then adapter tacked in place.. chopped the 4 inch vband off the downpipe and tacked that in place.. Ignore the electrical tape. Was just trying to hold the heat wrap in place. Half an hour with the metal glue gun and it was all welded up and solid... Waited for it to cool off and slung it back on.. I'm gettin positively bored of working in the dark.. especially since I have a garage 50ft away I can't use this really really is the last job until I've sorted some more storage so I can work in my garage rather than in the dark with an old lamp as company.. Supprisingly it all still fits.. however since the exhaust outlet on the turbo is closer to the flange vertically the already low exhaust is now lower so when I've got it all off to sort the wastegate out I need to take an inch or so out of the vertical bit of the downpipe.. still not a massive job.. While I'd still got 5 minutes spare (read atleast half hour job).. I whipped all the plugs out and cleaned em up in hope the misfire goes away. None were particularly bad but they all looked a bit sooted up.. Fluids checked, coolant topped up. Called it a day.. I'm working in Birmingham tomorrow but assuming I'm done in time, I'm going to give it another test drive if nothing else just to see how it behaves on a bit longer run. And see if the misfire has gone away. I may even try and do a sneaky video on my private road.. Assuming that all goes well, then it all needs to come apart, grind the plate off I welded over the wastegate flange, and source/fit whatever gate I end up with.. Anyways.. more soon. And thanks for all the positive comments. It really has been a bit of a labour of love getting to this point! Cheers

its great when you are having issues and the solutions comes along. the work becomes finishing off jobs rather than trying to see what works.

When is it going back to the rollin' road ? I actually spoke to john the mapper yesterday. I was too excited not to tell him (my car was subject of conversation few weeks back when he went drag racing haha).. His exact words were "soon as youve a wastegate on and working, get it back to me and well see what it does".. So yeah, soon as it's got a working gate on it will be going back

So.."it works"... Can only mean it's time to take it apart again ..... You may remember a few pages back in my quest for missing boost I welded the outlet up in the link pipe for the wastegate to rule out any possible leaks (turned out I was wrong but hey ho)... Well as much as access was awful with the mig, it's even more awful with a grinder. Plus I need to be a lot neater so I've half a chance of fitting the new gate (which is en route as it happens)... So the link pipe needs to come off again! No time like the present.. il warn you in advance the pics are worse than usual, my phones about dead and I need to find a few hours to set new one up.. oh and it's dark. Did I mention I hate working in the dark. Turbo and link pipe off in one piece, which means when I've fitted new metal lock nuts, I can refit it all in one piece. Turbo seperated from link pipe so I can grind the welded on plate off the wastegate outlet. And then the sad looking engine bay So that's where I'm at, waiting on a wastegate so I can put it back together. I need to shorten the downpipe by an inch but didn't want to push my luck with the noise with kids in bed.... However. I did say I was going to give it another drive with the exhaust on this time. So I did when I got home from work. And we'll. Yeah.. it's a bit bonkers. Stab the throttle while your rolling in 2nd and it trys it's best to light the tyres up even tho roads are bone dry.. After a couple of enthusiastic pulls I lost all my boost altogether (bare in mind the gauge registers 15psi without even trying).. popped the bonnet and I'd blown a boost pipe off!! (This is a new problem ) No tools in car and a few miles from home I was conscious I needed to get pipe back on and get home to fetch kids, so managed to refit the jubilee clip using my pen knife as a flat screwdriver haha. I did manage to grab a little video. It's not the greatest but hopefully you should be able to hear the fun noises if nothing else.. but yeah still grinning haha The metallic bang is the exhaust touching the floor on the slightly uneven private test road.. it definitely needs to go above the subframe. So yeah. Looks like I need a dump valve too now haha. Anyways. Fingers crossed the videos work, fingers crossed I get time to do some over weekend Cheers
