bet you are well chuffed with that result mat88 Quite a nice noise when the turbo spools up too! I'm definitely chuffed.. chuffed enough to order a genuine turbosmart wastegate haha.. only problem I have is the more I do, the more I think "I could just" or "what if I do this"... Think I need to get it together and working and go from there. The exhaust being that low is definitely an issue, I'm hoping with a lump out the downpipe it will make it high enough to be driveable then I can look into remote mounting the filter, and running exhaust over the subframe. And cheers, it sounds epic in real life. My nakerd phone doesn't do the sound justice. Once it's mapped and working I've a willing volunteer for a passenger ride who can do a decent video.

The only way to describe the noise it makes is awesome, I bet it sounds even better from inside the car :-)

ok ill go first ,425 on the dyno . If it makes 425 and the clutch does anything like hang together il be absolute ecstatic.. tbh I bottled it and ordered the gate with a 7psi spring in.. The next option up was 14psi and using man maths that should see over 500bhp... And I've not got the clutch for that at minute.. he can map to 7psi and if all is happy, he can leak it off.. maybe to ten.. It's also worth remembering john states all his Dyno figures at the wheels. Not at crank (he said whats the point in knowing crank it's what's at road that matters) and although I fully agree, to see 425 on a Dyno sheet from him, I'd be up round the 470 crank figure I'm guessing.. There.... I think that's all my excuses out the way haha

I think on my dyno i would expect around 35 to 45 bhp losses ,so if it's at 380 -390, that'll do you could always pop a .8 mig tip in the boost to wastegate line , and a adjustable bleed valve T'd into the line to the wastegate , you know , just in case

Haha. And I'm posh you know, no need to t into the wastegate line with a bleed valve. I've a proper Mac solenoid boost valve plumbed in ready to turn the wick up on command haha! (Disclaimer I'm not posh at all haha)

Sounds like Mad Max's Ford Falcon, which is a very good thing Il take that, it all sounds very mechanical. There's no dash, missing sound deadening, no surround round the gearstick and the Wuhan war whistle doing its thing trying to suck passing pedestrians off the pavement.. soon as it "works" il do a proper video.

Only managed to sneak an hour tonight. Tbh I wasn't going to bother. My youngest was up between 3 and 5 for 2 hour this morning, eldest got up at half 6.. Mrs is on nights. An it's been one of them days! Think that's enough excuses but tbh I just wanted to make a bit of progress in preparation of the new wastegate turning up.. So first things first. Remove the bodged on plate on the link pipe ready to fit the new wastegate.. Remove copious amounts of weld and exhaust paste (I really didn't want it to leak).. to reveal the hole ready for the gate Can't do owt else with that til new one turns up but I have spied a lump of 50mm pipe to make a little standoff. Next up the downpipe. As I said since the exhaust outlet on the turbo is closer vertically to the flange, the exhaust is even lower than it was... So to fix that I need to take an inch "ish" out of the vertical bit of the downpipe. So choppy chop chop At this point I was going to leave it for the night, however my mate with the ls400 messaged me ribbing me saying he didn't want excuses... And if I had the welder with me I should do it he received this picture However it must have worked cus half hour later, two became one once more With that done I decided to really call it a day. I'm tired/hungry/tired in that order and I'm not starting rewrapping it tonight that's a cert.. If I get half hour spare tomorrow il rewrap it so it's ready to go back on.. then until I've got the new gate I'm a bit stuck. I've also been trying to have a look into possible dump valves and as per everything else V8 related there not cheap.. they sell a 50mm tial style on eBay for 40 quid, and a genuine turbosmart 50mm is well... ,5 times that.. but having had the bad luck with the tial Chinese gate I'm hesitant to go that route. Wel see. Anyways that's it for now. Cheers

So sadly not had much time for this despite my best efforts.. what with adulting, kids, work and the threat of lockdown round 2 swaying me to the pub last night while we're still allowed I'm not as far on as I'd like.. oh and wasting time waiting for tradesmen to not turn up for the house modifications and having to chase them is taking up vital car fettling time.. So excuses out the way.. first things first.. a shiny new box at work.. along with a shiny new phone so hopefully the pics should be less potato cam from now on Ahhh...... Much better.. and unlike the old one this seals correctly on the fire ring.. properly properly nicely made, comes with a full range of springs (enough to run 28psi on gate pressure) and is generally just proper! My plan was weld the new vband to a little stand off, then weld the stand off to my existing wastegate outlet. So bit of steel, bit of metal melting and we've got this.. I know the whole design is "sub optimal" but I can have it mapped to deal with any boost creep. And roughly assembled to end up with this.. Also modified the screamer pipe to fit the new gate.. so that's sorted too.. Then not much happened, but managed an hour in he rain tonight.. So turbo assembled onto the manifold with new metal locknuts and high tensile bolts Then fill this empty space with something more meaningful... At this point I realised I really could have done with another pair of hands. I hate working in the rain and dark.... I really really need to get the car inside.. and if I ever remake the link pipe, il use vbands instead of two bolt flanges... What an absolute pig of a job getting the bolts back in on my own (did I mention it was raining) And just like that..... Managed another half hour before the rain finished me off.. I've been working in scrapyard all day in rain, to come home and work in rain and dark. Not ideal.. got the oil feed and return back on properly, got the boost pipe from the turbo on and after that called it a day.. Need to get the car up in air to get the wastegate and screamer on. Also need to rewrap the downpipe but I really hate heat wrap so that's last job. Also need a dump valve as last time I drove it every time I shut the throttle the boost pipes blew off.. was meant to be getting one from my mate however he's gone quiet. So a eBay special is on the way... Don't worry it will be getting thoroughly tested before I fit it haha Anyways. That's where I'm up to. Id like to say I have loads of spare time but I just don't at minute. But il get there. And in next week or so hopefully it will be back together and can go back to John for mapping. More soon Cheers!

Got another bit done tonight. Not much but I figure even if I get an hour or so 3 nights a week when she's working. It will soon be done.. maybe.. just doesn't seem very appealing when it's pitch black dark when I start. Got the lovely new gate on. Along with the rewrapped screamer pipe. Turned into a bit of a ball ache as you need 3 hands when you fit them upside down and on last count I've only got 2 still struggled on and got it fitted. Ran out of metal ties so bunged a couple tiewraps on just to hold the heatwrap in place. Will grab some more or find my lockwire before I run it. Next wanted to get my rewrapped down pipe back on.. as much as it should be straight forward I may have been a bit ambitious with the inch I chopped out of it.. so it may now need the exhaust altering with the bfh to clear the oil filter Got the top vband on, but really needed another pair of hands for the bottom one. And by now I've had enough tbh.. Got some more builders coming tomorrow afternoon to finish speccing the house job. So if there not there too long, il grab an hour in daylight before I fetch kids. Anyways. Positively boring update. Done haha

Mat , that flattened bit of pipe is going to knock a bucket of power off(maybe) , maybe worth making a straight side pipe you can bolt on there just for the dyno to see how much you're losing with the pipe as it is ?
also , you could measure its flattened section internal height and width and work out it's area and see what round pipe size that is ,for an idea of the restriction ?

The flattened pipe started life as 4 inch round.. it's been flattened down to a smidge over 2.5 inch but 4 inch across.. The pic for make it look bad tho.. I know it's far from ideal. But any bigger than that and it's on the floor sat still.. making a straight section for the Dyno isn't a bad shout tho as il see what difference it's making.. long term I want a 3 inch system above the subframe with the oil filter relocated. But as it is at minute I just want it to work and be done. So the lash up exhaust will have to do
