So, I'm not sure this being an adult is for me is there anywhere I can apply for a refund .. what with work, kids, adulting and general life I'm struggling to get much done. Oh and the weather.. only night I've had free it rained sideways for the whole night!!!? That an my youngest daughter now deciding she doesn't want to go to bed at night and my Mrs picking extra shifts up, I've barely time to do owt. So with no time, quite a few stresses and generally being a bit meh.. best thing to do is add some more pressure. So I've insured it from the end of the month with a view to getting it on the road for August. best stop being a flannel then.. First thing. The timing. Need to double check it with the new light. Mrs worked Tuesday night I got home from work Wednesday and managed to convince her to sit cranking it for 5 before I had to get kids from nursery.. sure enough it's out.. not miles but some. Not a problem il get laptop out, spend 15 min resetting it job done.. no I won't.. terrential end of the world rain spoiled that idea.. I did manage to make a start and with the ignition angle lock box checked it revs out much nicer leading me to think the base map has too much advance in it aswell. My mate came up tonight to help with the timing (need another pair of hands to crank/watch laptop) and we ending up settling on 3 degrees out. Not bad considering i struggled on first time on my own. Then my daughter got back up an that was end of tonight's progress Had some overnight parts from Japan (china definitely china) turn up since I need to be able to fasten bonnet down. Again not being able to fire the grinder up once kids are in bed has meant there still in top of my box.. they aren't the greatet quality. But there not aerocatch money either. Had a go at fitting the original fans. No way on god's green earth are they fitting. Some idiot has filled the space the fans live with turbo and exhaust. So I've got a slimline Cheap jobby on way.. also realised id ran the exhaust through the space the washer bottle lived. So I've a little universal one of those on way too. Now a few pages back (seems like years after having the Rona) I was refurbing the rx8 wheels. Now they were never my ideal wheel. They wouldn't fill the bodykit. I couldn't put the used tyres back on the refurbed wheels (that's just me there was not much up with em) and I was going to be in them for more than I'd liked by time I'd done.. so I blew some high build primer over them and popped em up for sale.. had people falling over themself for em and cleared a tidy profit. So I'm happy enough with that. So now I'm wheeless again! But not for long I've got a nice set in the pipeline. Staggered. Proper fitment proper tyre size and a proper brand 265 35 in back, 235 40 in front. And they "should" work with the btcc kit! I won't put a pic up til I have them. But there a "proper" wheel rather than a stancy boi Cheap special haha. Just means il have to make do with the awful standard wheels til the bodykit goes on.. oh a d there light too. And light is good in wheels Haha I did sneak an hour at work one day while I was waiting on parts.. if you've ever noticed the sport is200 has a mesh style grill. The standard models have a horrible slatted affair (with a chrome trim, and chrome is banned on this car).. however sport grills sell for silly money, and I don't even think I've got the mounts to fit a standard grill anymore after all my choppy choppy on the front end.. so I thought I'd make my own version that I can glue into the front bumper (this grill had a broken mounting tab and came with the car) Start with one standard grill Do some choppy choppy Bit of smoothing, coat of etch and a few coats of satin black. I give you a "sport" grill. Just need some mesh to finish it off. Best of all its cost me nothing, well nothing like the 100 quid sport grills fetch in lexus circles There's a few bits that need calibration on the ECU front and like ive said from the start this is a steep learning curve to me. Rather than me struggle (and probably cock it up) Chris from phoenix is having a teamviewer session with me Monday afternoon to go through it all with me (going above and beyond again) so it should be running better by then all being well. (This is assuming I can make TeamViewer work haha) So yeah. All that waffle for not a lot of doing.. did manage to get my dog for a haircut. So have a pic of my doggo looking fresh since I've no good pics of the car to look at Cheers

So little update. Kids were up at crack of dawn Sunday, Mrs got home and went to bed. So I needed something to get us out the house for a few hours so she could sleep.. what better way than to do a bit of retail therapy. I'm not talking shoes and soft furnishings.. no no. Race car parts haha. Lad locally was breaking one with a nice interior. Few beer tokens changed hands and I've now got a lovely new interior and a mint steering wheel to replace my grotty one.. he's also got a heater matrix to replace my broken one when he takes dash out. Now today was the day for the TeamViewer session with Chris from phoenix. My mate was meant to be coming up to help but bailed due to a medical emergency (I'm not laughing at him but I know hel read this). So was stuck on my own.. Gave Chris a call around 3.. got TeamViewer connected (for those that don't know it's basically remote access to your laptop/computer so someone somewhere else can control it and see what's on the screen, I'm not clued up on this type of thing but even I managed) Starting with the cold start he had me cranking it whilst he controlled stuff amended stuff and worked general wizardry. I can't even begin to explain what he did, cus tbh I don't know 100%.. I know the TPS was calibrated, the oil and fuel pressure sensors were calibrated (turns out I had 5.5 bar of fuel pressure I needed 3 ).. along with timing confirmed. Iacv set up etc etc. He also activated an output to make the Bluetooth module work so the tablet connects now. Also showed me how to check the afr and I'm nicely rich so that's good. Basically in 2 hours we went from it running just not great and refusing to idle. To it starting on the key, and revving cleanly to the limiter and it made an attempt at making boost (I absolutely pooped my pants, it sounded like a jet fighter taking off ) once again he's proved its not just the product your buying it's the aftercare. A lot of people would have told me to go away a long time ago haha I also had quite a promising chat with a chap from John sleath race cars. I'd never heard of them but was told they do proper mapping, not stage 2.75 pop and bang maps on a fiesta a quick FB search later revealed the extent of what they do. Basically if it's a bit special they map it. But they also do proper old school tuning on everything from bike engine minis to escorts with pinto's in.. this all looked promising. Had a chat and basically they don't do generic Revo stage 1s etc. They do full custom stuff on all manner of ECUs and although he said they hadn't done a ECUmaster ECU before. The fundamentals are the same and he's happy to do it. So that seems like a good start to me.. but the best bit... He's about 6 mile from my house. I can push it there if need be there was talk of 4th of august but I wanted to see how today went first before I commit. However since it's running so happily now I think the sensible thing to do is call back tomorrow and book in Oh and my wheels should be ready Wednesday.. the more I look at them the more I think they will work perfect with the look. Plus being a nice light wheel they should help on the handling stakes! Anyways enough waffle for now. Maybe more soon (doing not waffle) Cheers

Noice!
Glad you've got shot of the RX8 wheels. I thought they were going to be a bit rubbish.
Great work with all the mapping and getting it booked in. Will make the World of difference.

So another day another update.. no no don't worry I've not kicked Mrs and kids out, but instead of a dinner hour had a car hour (that could be a new diet technique although tbf I ate my bacon butty whilst working so perhaps not )... Acquired some mesh to make the grill for my sport style grill. Amazing what you find in deapest depths of our workshop haha.. Bit off chopping and ended up with this. Cleaned it up, few coats of satin black then bonded in from the back. Got something that looks not to dissimilar from a sport grill, total outlay £0.. perfect Back home once kids were down, had a little restoration job to do on this. Although it's slightly retro it's not the usual affair for here so won't waffle too much. But I've decided I ought to flog a few unused toys to put some money in pot for this project. So it's now on eBay.. I can't play with everything and tbh, with kids, work the lexarse and life, I probably won't use it any time soon. So all tested, checked over and listed. Back to to the lexus. Newly finished grill test fitted in the bumper. Yep. That will work. Then onto next bit. New slimline fan turned up.. before I get shot down I know it's not going to be enough to cool it down on a drift day, I know it ideally needs to go in a shroud. And I know I probably need atleast 2. But it will be enough to stop it turning instantly to a kettle and if I get stuck in traffic, il switch it off. Once I've proven the initial concept, il upgrade to an ally rad and twin fans in a shroud. And all fitted and wired in. The mounts have ended up a bit wonky. Tbf I should have removed the rad to fit it. But I don't want to have to loose all the coolant and bleed it again. I just need to run it up to temp and see if I've got it plugged in right way round. It works as a pusher or puller but even with the ultrasilencer 9000 fitted, it's still to loud to run for any period at night under my daughters bedroom window so that's a job for another day. Once it's right il heatshrink the terminals. For a cheap fan I'm seriously impressed with the amount of air it shifts tho (tested on a battery at work and nearly blinded myself with the dust it blasted into my eyes) After that I'd pretty much lost the light and decided to call it a day. Granted it's not massive progress but it's another bit checked off. Cheers

Can't believe how close he is. And the calibre of stuff he seems to do. Hoping to pop in for a chat tomorrow to get booked in (I'd do it over phone but would rather talk to someone face to face to explain all the potential issues he may have with summat I've built) haha And I don't need encouragement to do rolling burnouts, it's almost a given haha. Although not on my new tyres (more on those shortly).. il make sure it's a good one if I'm likely to pass a fellow retrorides members house

So day number 74935 of lexus ownership. And managed another hour before it went dark.. My little universal washer bottle turned up. I'm not planning on this being an all weather hack. However washers are helpful for the flies in summer, and for an mot I suppose Was going to mount it in the boot, but that would mean 20ft of cable, and 20ft of washer hose. I had neither so a little space was found under the bonnet with no engine in (warm washer juice is good right) Knocked up a little bracket to mount it and found a home for it. Then needed to wire it. Originally the car has a huge washer bottle with 2 pumps (one for Windows one for headlights.) I'm not sure if I was having a brain fart moment or it's wired in a wierd way from factory but I couldn't get it to work. Problem is I've no idea what worked when the car arrived and it's that long since I've had a functional is200 can't remember what does what on the lever.... It's also really awkward trying to pull the lever and check wires under bonnet on your own Quick message to a fellow retroridest With an is200 and with the lever function confirmed I've now got working washer pump! Just need to wire it in permenant now. Also managed to refit the headlights properly for the last time and chucked all the connections back on them. Need to check all the bulbs work but it's another step closer. I've sourced a little expansion tank through work, so will have one of those next time we order from that supplier (then got to find a home for it) may be easier said than done. I had to chuck the bumper on with the new grill just to check it fits and see how it looks. Looks pretty smart if you ask me.. will be having the lexus badge back on once it's black Also got a message to say the new wheels are off and ready for collection.. did someone say phat these should work. And will fill the btcc kit just lovely Anyways. That's all for now. Hoping to get over to the mappers tomorrow depending what time I get done at work. Cheers

Aye, he's a very knowledgeable chap. He was messing around with aftermarket EFI stuff when I was a kid, quite ahead of the game really. I live in Leeds but work is sunny (scummy lol) Donny.

Yeah that's the one haha. Although how brampton ever got an en le is beyond me. Best thing there is banger track. Haha
And from what he said when I spoke to him and what is on there FB page he seems a very clever bloke. No bull no pretend. Just does the job right. Even he said it would be foolish to expect it all to go right first time after a build like this (which gives me some hope that no one gets it right first time haha).

Well... Did a thing. All booked in with John for the 1st of august. Went and saw him after work, thoroughly nice bloke, says it how it is and was happy enough with everything I'd done..(he may change his mind when he sees it haha)
I did say I wanted it on the road for August. But didn't plan on cutting it this fine haha Best crack on then hadn't I... But not tonight. Tonight is Friday at our house so a few beers and a pizza it is
Cheers

Through my excellent powers of deduction, I reckon he has a set of OZ Ultraleggera alloys for it
