Cheers JP.
Kitch, I remember commenting on your Imp on the Imp Club forum some time ago. Glad to hear you still have it and are still Improving and enjoying it.
Quartermaster, I have no time frame when it will be finished but want to get it in paint this year and as close to finishing in 2018 if I can. If not no biggie. Still a lot to do and finding the money to complete it is the big challenge as well as the time as I am self employed and work takes priority everytime. Cheers Col

Any updates on this? I've got a blackbird engine to go in my mini and this has given me renewed enthusiasm! Not touched it for far too long!!!

Hi fatlad, No major progress of late that is worthy of showing in here, all just little stuff. Been really busy with work so it has come to a halt but hoping to get some primer on it in the next few weeks or so. Cheers Col.

Had a wee think of the minor things i have been doing to The Pest lately and although not great its still all progress that may be of interest to folk on here. So here goes. The Imp has a reputation of being affected by sidewinds at speed and back in the day a bib spoiler was the way to go to help prevent this, or a bag of stand under the bonnet. Personally i like the bib spoiler way but didn't want to fit the traditional style. A Mk2 Golf gti was my chance of spoiler suitably cut and trimmed to follow the front valance of the car. For mounting i welded on some flat 1" strips with m6 nuts welded to the rest of the plate. The radiator needed the hot air to be ducted away through the hole in the spare wheel well that has been there for a very long time. Some aluminium was cut, shaped and rivetted together to give the correct shape. There was a space above the pedal box which i thought could be used for a tool tray. Some lightweight angle was purchased and made into the framework but i didnt think it was light enough so some holes were drilled. As you do. Stainless plate with holes in is still to be bolted in to make the tool tray floor As this was going on i was also making up the front brakes like and working them around the fuel tank and the tool tray. With the front brakes lines in place of a sort it would be rude not to fit the freshly painted brakes calipers. I think that is all of the minor stuff that has been done that i didnt put up as i was doing them. Today was another bit of progress with priming the inside of the boot Next will be some colour over the primer. Cheers Col.

That's not minor work . In my book it's major. I've updated my build to just to say I've broken down. Twice! Cool project. Keep the updates coming.

Cheers Jonesy, Just little stuff all round i guess could make it a major progression with it. All helps to get to the end of it. Here is something i forgot i had done as they are now in the loft. A mounting plate from alloy for the brakes and clutch reservoirs. Still to plumb them in but i need to think about what clutch matter cylinder to use to suitably the Blackbird clutch. Cheers Col

Nice work - Quite amazing just how many Imp panels were used by Ginetta to produce the moulds for the G15.

Looking really good! Might have missed it but have you had to modify the clutch slave cylinder to clear your new drive flange? On my engine it looks as though it would be close? Have you had it running yet?!

Morning, No you haven't missed anything regarding the clutch slave cylinder fatlad , I haven't taken a photo of it and posted it, sorry. Went into the garage this morning and took a quick photo for you though . The slave cylinder was trimmed slightly for clearance and offset 60mm I think it was using longer allen bolts and spacers I bought from Fleabay. Seemed to be the easiest solution although I have still to extend the pushrod inside of the motor. No, I haven't had it running yet as that's really the last thing on my list of things that need done, I will worry about that once I have it painted and the driveshafts fully sorted out.

So a bit more progress after finishing my painting still from this afternoon. I had a sheet of aluminium that i had marked out for the door cards and rear panels that sit under the windows and over the rear wheel arches. Thought i may as well cut them into shaped for the future. Still to mark out the door cards for the door handles once i decide where they are going. Cheers Col.

Hey Col, Extremely long time, no speak! But it’s great to see you still have the Imp, and it really has progressed into an amazing project! I’ll definitely need to get a look once it’s built! Every so often I take a notion to get another, but I’ve got too many projects sitting about at the moment (apparently that is a thing ) Hopefully you remember me, ciaran that owned the imp that was ruined by the so called ‘welder’ through in wishaw

Hi Ciaran, It has been a long time since we have spoken about your Imp when you had that. I was only asking Scott about it last and where it ended up with. Good to hear you have a few projects still on the go. Need to make one an Imp though You may have to wait a whilst to see mine finished. With me having ex race fibreglass doors fitted there was always discussion on how best to open them from the inside. Today i resolved that question by cutting out bits from the original doors so i can recycle them into the much lighter fibreglass doors. I added 70mm L shaped piece so it could be rivetted to the fibreglass internal skin. Cheers Col

[img class="smile" src="//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png" alt= Cheers Col I sold it to a friend, bought it back last year, and decided I still couldn’t commit the time to it, and it really was as bad as I remembered, so I sold it to John Ross, and it was used to keep a few other imps on the road, which is probably all it was good for after the work that was carried out on it when I first got it! I would like another imp at some point, as a project. But they’ve certainly gone up since I bought mine all those years ago.... but maybe one day! I’m sure it’ll be worth the wait, it really does look great so far!

The new and old metal all rivetted into place allowed me to trial fit the door cards once i had drilled a suitable hole. Now need to think about how the door cards are best attached to the door once they are covered in a suede material to match the dashboard. Cheers Col.

Just read through the full thread from the start. Great work!
I hope that one day I'll be able to cobble bits of metal together as well as this. A bike engined car project is on my list.
