I won't wish people a merry Christmas considering what some people could
be going through, be it work, weather or money related troubles.
So I will wish you all a safe and dry(flood free) Christmas and New Year.
As we all have had to make compromises over this year let us all hope
that the next one will be a better one.

I had my 6 monthly appointment with an eye specialist this morning, and
what was said scared the S**T out of me! My right eye only has peripheral vision
due to the amount of damage done by diabetes and the lazer treatment used
to keep what sight I have left in it.
Well it is my left eye which needs some lazer treatment to nip a problem in the
bud, but his next words were "if you have too much treatment you will have to
stop driving and give up your licence!"
If I was able-bodied that wouldn't ave been too much of a problem, but I'm not
and a car is my legs. This is the first time it has ever been mentioned!

I am currently still awaiting for the intrepid ecu plugs coming from the USA. Below is taken from the usps email on it's details. With thanks to Two-Eagle of Indian.Maid Products.Inc who organised the Dodge intrepid 3.3L V6 ECU plugs (2 sets) I will now be able to do some work on the neon in the nice warm and dry surroundings of my bedroom. :grin: Yes it's still raining/drizzling outside, so no direct work on the car.  Shame I was knocked flat by the family dogs who saw the postman before I did! So I'm propped up in the front room with a cuppa tea, and no painkillers. I can't take painkillers for the next 24 hours as I need to be up ready to be taken to The Sunderland Eye Infirmary for first thing in the morning. My consultant doesn't wait around, and wants the treatment done as soon as possible to prevent the need for more treatment later. So I will not be able to use any pc or tv for a good 6 -12 hours afterwards! |

Good luck with the eye treatment.
I was in Sunderland Eye Infirmary a couple of years ago having my retina in my right eye stuck back on!

Well for obvious reasons I wasn't able to do much!   What was needed to be done was to recharge the battery on dad's Land rover Discovery after someone left the lights on. I did try to jump start off the neon's battery which turned of to be dead also!  And mothers Volvo V70 t5, yes battery flat too! So while the Discovery was on charge I had to refill the coolant reservoir YET AGAIN! There is definitely a leak in the cooling system, and dad has been told so, and that he should be keeping it topped up not me unless he wants to wreck it before gets a new one! The volvo and neon batteries are in the garage on charge. Wednesday is when the Volvo goes to the Volvo specialist garage in Thornaby on Tees to get fixed. It needs the replacement radiator, cylinder head off and pressure tested. Then new gaskets belts etc,. And there is no way I could do this myself in good weather let a lone in these conditions, plus mother can't blame me if it goes wrong! But it means I get to get back on the road to car club meets again when it's fixed! (that is if the meets/shows haven't been cancelled as of the weather!) Back to a little on that old ecu socket, with the rubber in under the circuit board I am trying to get off the pins, I will only do a little at a time as the smell makes me sick! So slow progress on it. |

Okay a little bit done tonight I finished removing hat was left of the circuit board from the ECU socket. The smell and fumes from the protective rubber knock me sick when I'm using the soldering iron to do the de-soldering. So I that is why it has taken so long to do it as I'm not well to start with! On one side which I started first 2 pins the end snaped of and a further one came part way out before snapping. So it will be fun fixing it for use  The plugs with wires got a good cleaning with the ecu socket ready for tomorrow night.  I still can't that acrid smell and taste out of my mouth from the fumes |

Maybe work on improving the ventilation where you are doing this soldering? I’m thinking open a window and get a desk fan to blow the fumes out.
I know its cold for opening windows and that but surely being cold is better than being ill from soldering fumes.

xbo11ox I know what you mean. but my eye sight being what it is when it comes to close up work my depth perception goes out the window so I'm hunched over the bloody thing to do anything! Work on the good plug tonight, 20 done, 20 to go! And those fumes!!!!!! tight chest, headaches, then my back decides it wants to get in on the act so knocked off for the night.  |

Right I have almost complete one socket, it was easier once I switched to an ever so slightly thinner wire being used to solder onto the pins. I have to clear up the mess of solder on a couple of pins.before covering the connections with heat shrink insulation.  I have purchased off ebay a second hand front end lpg kit off a BMW 528 so the kit is suitable for around 200bhp engines. Yes it is a sequential and not a single point injection system. As the adapter is still in the process of being made it would not take much to connect the LPG wiring loom into the adapter, rather than try and cut into the loom already on the car. Of course that is after the car is running with no problem on good old petrol. |

But considering the atrocious weather conditions last year, it looks like the planners of events are either not bothering or are holding off announcing them! There is a slight delay on the lpg kit getting to me that I bought off ebay as the courier didn't pick it up last week, however the flash lub kit I ordered separately (brand new) arrived Saturday. I did find this bit off retro rides rather interesting. retrorides.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=144769Yes thats what I do for a living. Is it the same ? Well now technically, its quite a big question. Normal petrol is 95 ron, the expensive stuff 98. Lpg 115-120 ron but it has a lower calorific value. And it depends how you introduce the LPG into the engine. If you have a carb, you introduce it with a mixer just over the top of the carb. It has a venturi and as vac increases the gas flow does as well. Put quite simply. However you are restricting the the air flow a bit. So slightly down on power. Modern injection systems however are a completely different matter. They intercept the petrol injector pulse and inject the gas in the same way as petrol. No restriction to the air flow. So they pull like a petrol car exactly to the letter. Turbo cars the waste gate is dictated by the knock sensor, LPG doesn't knock. Guess what I run ? I will definitely need the lpg fitted on the neon after Sundays trip to and from the Yorks Yanks Club meet just outside Hull. The fuel light was on when I put fifty quids worth of regular at £1.31 per litre in Hartlepool. The fuel light was on when I pulled off the A19 coming home! If thats what it was like in mothers 2.4 Volvo V70 T5 estate I wonder what it will be like in a 3.3 Neon? And I screwed myself up doing the trip, I spent Monday in bed on painkillers suffering from the side effects of the painkillers made matters worse. Probably made worse by the fact I haven't driven as far in a long time. I need another day or two to be back up to even think about doing anything. |

Just been told the front end lpg kit has been collected from the seller.
So that means delivery sometime in the next few days.
Mother pulled a blinder today, she came across what was left of a
stainless steel pedal bin, it looks unused but a bit battered. The main
tube/body is mostly undented. Although it is a bit thin bit of stainless
metal sheet, but I might be able to use it to make a bit of an
underskirt to stop stuff going up the front of the engine and to give a
bit of protection for the serpentine belt run.
Shame it wasn't a drum off a washing machine, as that would have
been better as it is thicker. But never look a gift horse in the mouth!
The temperature has dropped and it's started snowing here again, YUCK!

Well the DVLA (Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency) the British
version of the USA's DMV sent me a nice little reminder that my
SORN (Statutory Off Road Notification) Certificate runs out at the
end of this month.
So a couple of minutes online and that has been renewed for
another year just incase I don't get the old girl back on the road
by the end of the month(which is very likely due to the weather).
I messed up one side of the adapter plug so I will need to start
again with another old ecu to remove the plug. As luck would
have it I managed to find a guy on ebay who had a few. So I
have one coming for a grand total of £15.00.
The LPG kit still hasn't arrived I have sent an email to the seller
asking for tracking or delivery details.
Someone has had a go at mothers car, before I went down to
Hull for the car club meet, they had tried to remover the front
indicator and may have had a go at the headlight too.
All replacement parts ordered but not delivered yet.

The £15 neon ecu arrived yesterday. Dad has been moving stuff around on the drive again. So when he took a break I got the grinder out and made a couple of cuts to chop the ecu in two. I only need the socket end, the rest went in the trailer with the other rubbish to be taken to the skips next week. Doing it this way saves me a lot of time and hassle by not having to hack the protective rubber out just to get the circuit board and socket out.   I'll remove the socket and clean that but up tonight, and start to de-solder and remove what is left of the circuit board. I have hopefully learned my lessons from the mistakes made on the previous socket. |

Instead of wiring all those 20 wires to the pins, I'd have been tempted to breadboard it. It doesn't look like there's enough of a pin to get a solid connection to!

After the weekend of the parents moving stuff around on the drive and washing the dirt from it, the dirt grease and grime ended up on Christine! This ment she had to be washed down before the car freezes over an it ends up being like wet and dry sandpaper on the old girl. The wind was a direct wind from the north straight off the North sea, and you could see the sleet or snow blow past missing my Village, and hitting Hartlepool the town just down the coast. The front bumper has been popped back on so it doesn'r get blown down the garden again.  As of 6pm Monday 11th of February, I have not yet received the front end lpg kit which I bought off ebay. I have sent an email to the seller again requesting information on the parcel(tracking detail etc) |
