Make it a high revving small capacity engine...Supercharge it because the small engine will have a harder time spooling up a turbo.

I's say supercharged for the highly technical reason that i like the SUPERCHARGED badge on the back of Range Rover Sports and I could affix one.

Presumably for tax & insurance purposes. i hadnt thought of that but i have a spare 1.1 that "should" run okay its pretty low milage just not been started for a year or so now, and it would be nice to tune a 1.1..........and go humiliate some saxo's, and of course just to shut all the fiesta boys up "just throw a XR lump in it" i suppose supercharging would be better more useable power, I'm guessing ignition advance is needed with this saw some cheap eatons on ebay earlier too

Ohh...The way i thought it would be that a small cc engine would either have to have a small and maby not so worthwhile turbo for it to spool up in a worthwile time and that a supercharger produces power from the word go because its belt driven? Or am i completely off the mark?

Turbo all day!!!!!!!!!!!!! No wasted power and no constant wine, no belts to snap, not as frequent rebuilds, easier adjustability, easier to pick out of a scrapyard, easier to mount (usually), can run ithout any boxes in the exhaust system without being too loud, able to adjust boost 'on the move' with an in car adjuster up for racing down for cruising (usefull on motorways) and if your stuck for a lighter you can light a tab on one after some spirited driving My personal view anyway

I'm guessing ignition advance is needed with this Retard ignition for force induction. Advance = extra heat, not good for a turbomotor especially and not so good for superchargers either Rule of thumb to get you started would be retard 1 degree per pound of boost and set your fuel pressure (to get you started again) 1 psi per pound of boost plus 5 eg: boost 5 psi, fuel pressure 9 psi boost 10psi, fuel pressure 14psi

Your stealing my project! ;D
Ive been trying to fit an eaton on my fez, well atleast trying to verify the possibility. Having trouble finding room for it tbh. Not enough room behind the engine and the exhaust gets in the way at the front. The only place i can get it to fit is ontop of the engine with the charger sticking out the bonnet! the driverside engine mount gets in the way of the belt a bit. Its needs more thought i think.
it is the better option everytime for a sensible road car imo but its harder to pull off

Or am I completely off the mark? The belt charger does produce power from low down yes,but it takes much more power to drive it,whereas the turbo is using engine waste products to drive it so it's essensially power for free (discounting enery lost through heat) That's why the Smart 600cc/Daihatsu Copen 600cc etc run turbos.....albiet small ones, but a nice small turbo will mean minimal spool up time c/w minimal lag too Turbo is the way to go imo.....the main problems would be building a pressure box to sit the carb in and jetting it to suit.I don't know a lot about carb turbo systems, maybe you could pinch and adapt the r5gtt set up??

I've been investigating this too as i've got a spare 1300cc 4K engine for my Kp. After talking to and letting my engine builder mate have a look at the R1 carbs i have he says they will take upto about 1 bar of pressure maybe more. I was going to be looking for a GT15 turbo as these are ball bearing so spool up real quick and seem to be a popular choice for small engines (it's the turbo of choice for the guys that turbo the cinquecento).
