Discuss!!! When i came to forum land, I'd never dream of chatting about forgotten crusty old 80's Austin Rover, I also was not intending to start threads on my beloved Daily, but coming to Retro rides was ace, like minds, whether we all agree or not, a healthy discussion is fine. So thats great. We're generally enthusiastic (good or bad) about all 'old stuff' here and even if theres bad experiences clung to it. What most of us have in common is we all drive ar lust after some (most of the time) unfashionable or slagged off at some time cars, basically majority of people frown on us! but we're happy. ;D So question for discussion Does everyting has potential, or will some cars always be curse word? Now I accept some cars are $hit, however i always have perverted thoughts on how they could be modded to oblivion or made to be fixed of their lis of errors, two on this list include re engineering a crappy old Fiat Uno or Panda, or bracing, caging, and mental powering an old Nissan Micra, or doing summat stuppid with a Rover 213, or even geting an old yank tank and getting it to go round a twisty track like the PPC Roller, not forgetting Bryns idea to de-chav an Escort Cabbie FWD and roadster it. At present I lack the skillzors to see it through but radically changing a car really gets my juices flowing. Is it a waste of effort, money, and parking space, or should i look to park up a forgotten old car that I know little about its existence? potential for all? ideas, no potential persona examples. photo's and vids to document your cases would be an advantage. one car that will always be $hit is those Chinese Frontera copies.

Every car has potential, I think any current cars which are God awful may even be seen as doable in future. Mind you, you could remind me I said that in twenty years time when I`m stood laughing at a Ford Ka

I'm a complete believer in the 'anything has potential' philosophy.
Furthermore, most things look good clean, with the right rims and with the right stance.
Wheels and stance can make or break a car.

well said ^^ there are cars that i consider will always be of the non-good variety, ever. i'll not mention because they're popular ones. but then other people will tell me what i drive is of the equal non good variety. don't care much though what i don't like is being told i have a good car in the 5series. it needs as much or more work than most i have and will cost the most because its a bm, of course. vive la rustbox!

I'm a firm believer in the everything has potential camp, just some things take a lot more work than others to realese said potential. Definitely. My office overlooks a road which has 30-minute parking so I see all sorts of things come and go. Was recently looking at a tidy P-reg Hyundai Accent (which reminds me of the original Datsun 100A in any case), ended up thinking what that would look like super-low on fat little wheels.

Argh! I hate Accents! I remember looking at one in Sunderland with its horrible grey plastic interior, white paint and non-tinted glass and thinking how it would doubtless be owned by some traveller makem family who’d had it provided by the council to help with their disabled dad, then auctioned off in a shocking condition at 4 years old due to having mini-motos leant against it and a big dog living in it at night, and then left in the scrapyard 18 months after at the latest.

A lot of cars got dismissed as deeply unfashionable in the past, only for their time to come up when they're rare. I'm not sure whether rarity comes into it, but it certainly helps a cars case for potential. Be interesting to see whether my mums elderly Volvo 440 or the neighbours Kia MPV will ever get to the same desirability of a Renault 16 or Toyota Hiace.
Engine transplant and suspension/wheel mods make the difference too.

A dog curse word sandwich is still going to be pretty unpleasant regardless of how much ketchup you put on it.

The future retro, and future auto-wibblepoo subject comes into it doesnt it, seeing the potential in cheeky new cars, and new tat you hate. I guess there is always gonna be some auto-wibblepoo tat to buy somewhere old or new. Should we be saving old less obvious 'classics' going for peanuts instead? and why? Just curious BTW
