1. The old car/petrol smell.
2. For fifteen years of owning it, so many people (even today) have told me how curse word they are, it makes me even more determined to keep it.

Because I find new cars boring to drive. I was given a Mercedes C220 as a company car a few years back and it was just mind numbingly dull to drive, so I gave it back to the boss and now I'm commuting in the Mini, much much better....apart from Mondays where I've got to use the Kia.

Cheapest RWD car on ebay at the time. £37 Highest spec'd car I could find that was under £500 and under group 12 at the time.

I drive a Volvo 940 estate, mainly 'coz I panicked just before my little boy was born! He's two and a half now and I've realised I don't need such a monstrous brute, but cant afford to do anything about it now.

1: I drive the panda as its still doing 50 mpg+, and the power is on tap (up to 30 mph ). 2: The Holden i drive because everyone needs a V8 burble lump in their lives ;D 3: The campervan (when sorted) will be my 'get away for the weekend' vehicle, and also will be used for the Gathering. 4: The LiteAce is the work van, but i got it as its a toyota so its going to be reliable, plus i wanted a van thats not modern (with their dual mass flywheels etc)

The noise, the smell and the involvement. And I like the way it looks. ^^^^This It was also there, and of high sentimental value due to having been in the family since I was 13. I have thought about replacing it, but a modern estate doesn't even get close to matching what it can do as a load lugger & workhorse*. The only improvements I'd make are a 60/40 split rear seat, and better mpg. *In fact, the other week, one of the guys working at the local dump was telling me that I shouldn't use a classic in that way (fully loaded with sacks of plaster rubble and associated left over detritus that I was shifting for a friend who has just replaced and replastered his bathroom)!!! The amusing bit is that the rear still sat at a sensible height despite all that weight.

Alfa GTV, because I used to see a GTV Spider on the way to school in 1997 and it looked like it cost a billion pounds and looked like nothing i'd ever seen on the road before.
Then saw an article in EVO a few years ago saying that the V6 was a bargain at under 3K
Then saw twinnies were affordable, found one in a good color with zender kit, agreed to buy it without even looking at it turned up bought it watched the seller weep as I drove off.
Wouldn't change it for anything.

Simple.
I'm a car person. All 3 of the cars I currently own I saw and decided I was having it. Within a week they where mine.
Oh and I am clinically insane

i drive what i drive becasue I'm a nerd and need something to obsess over! it gives me something to do and think about for far too much of the day.
its different and somewhat special to me (i adore the comments i get and the heads it turns)
i can afford it.
my criteria for what i would look for would be something faster and that bit better than what everyone else has.

Cossy Cortina – Ok so the handling is pretty poor around corners even with gaz shocks and polly bushes but its the feeling you get driving it and of course the engine noise. I love it!! Easy to fix, Cheap to insure, admired by all who appreciate cars! Ticks my box

I drive a Sierra because it's......
A) Cheap (to buy, to modify, on parts and insurance) B) RWD C) I got some kind if weird obsession with Sierras, my current one is my fifth
Although I love Fords, my brand loyalty doesn't prevent me from owning other stuff too. In recent years I've owned Vauxhalls, Volvos and BMWs.

Hmmmm I bought the Cortina because I was half cut on Ebay on a Sunday night and it seemed cheap for a RWD Ford.
I bought the Arosa because it was cheap, cheap to run, and cheap to buy coilovers for.

Sh*troen ZX volcane i bought after my BXs suspension collapsed, it was sub £500, veggie compatible, full service and was suitably wedge shaped
Mk1 golf - I don't remember when i decided "thats the car for me!" but having tanked my nova into a brand new Favorit (you're all very welcome) and spent 3 years running a polo breadvan I had enough cash and NCB to by one - that was over a decade ago and its not got 250bhp/ton and makes allsorts of cool whistling and banging noises yet will turn 40mpg.
mk1 rocco - it just looks so cool and if you squint at it from a distance in the fog it almost looks like a baby ferrari.

I think I speak for most young drivers on this one: the cost of insurance is the biggest factor imo. but luckily the car I am currently using as my daily (k11 SR) is actually really fun to own and drive, and cost me only £500 which was a bargain for what I got. mind you the insurance is 3 times as much what i like about this the most though, is the fact there are so many different bits you can get for them for not much money atall, the fact that they are common helps a lot with prices of disposables such as brake discs and pads( 40 quid delivered ) brand new front crossmember, has cost me a total of £26 delivered. can't really beat it for the value/fun cost. blimey, its even great on fuel! 450 miles on a tank going at 75 most of the way. drops to 250 once youre going above 85 though ;D

-Currently my daily driver is an 08 plate Focus ST, because the 5 pot lump sounds good, it's quick and very torque'y and in bright Frozen white i think it looks good too.
-My current toy is an 88' mk1 Nissan 300zx which i love becuase of it's 'proper 80's' shape and colour (white again) and the v6 burble and grunt.......plus i just love to cruise about in it at grandad like speeds! ;D
