plus you're a million times more likely to flog it with a 4" tailpipe, as that's all the barry that buys it is gonna put on anyway.
the saxo isn't a bad shoppingmobile or everyday no-nonsense transport. it's just a shame 90% of them are driven stupidly by idots, and are blue with big rimz or two-tone silver.

when used correctly they are fine you could argue fitting bigger or differently weighted wheels to a car with stock bolts let alone pcd cb's is dangerous as again it over stresses a part etc etc blah blah
they are fine as long as you understand what you are using and how they are best applied to the job in hand

Sorry guys but the engineering principles behind them are as sound as they are behind sleeve type wheel blots and we have been using those for years and years without problems, infact i have them on my car!
Yes they are not as strong as a nice set of tapered wheels bolts in the correct PCD etc. but tapered bolts are an overkill
don't get me started on spacers
(alot of cars ive worked on don't use the center hole as location so you cant rely on that to hold your wheels on!)

I think on the principle of "Porsches come with spacers from the factory...So they must be fine." *n

Could someone post a picture of these wobbly bolts? Is it the type that has the tapered washer "floating" on bolt itself?
They sound like the type I'm using on my Sud, I've been running them for about 3 years now, have run track work, autocross and drags in the car and have never suffered a problem. The wheels do locate on a centre spigot however. These bolts were actually recommended by a Low Volume Vehicle engineer, and the wheel distributors, as it was something I wasn't prepared to take lightly.
My KP61 also doesn't feature a locating spigot on the rear hubs either....
Spacers of any kind are illegal over here, (even though I have a 3mm set on the front of the KP to clear the calipers) but you can have bolt on types complete with a locating spigot certified by an abovementioned engineer.

It's getting that way Our fanastic new enforceable noise limit was implemented yesterday. It's up to the officer's or WOF tester's discretion to objectively decide your exhaust is too loud, and you have to go to one of 9 (9 what a joke) testing facilities in the country to have a proper subjective test carried out at a cost to you of $100. They then slap a sticker on your exhaust to say it has passed the test... but there's no documentation apparently of how the exhaust is constructed etc. so if a cop sees the sticker, but decides it has been further modified since the sticker and is indeed too noisy, they can use their incredible judgement once again, and send you traipsing back to get it tested, again at a cost of $100.

a "Low Volume Vehicle Engineer"... do you have to keep asking him to speak up a bit? Arf! Arf! As for the exhaust noise though, it doesn't sound far off the UK rules - any MoT centre is allowed to fail you on a noisy exhaust, and as they don't have any sound measuring equipment it's just subjective. We don't have the secondary test though. I once had my polo fail on a noisy exhaust so i just took it back for my free retest, explained I'd found a slightly loose joint and tightened it, and it passed. Had they bothered to look under the car they'd have seen the same rust on the same bolts undisturbed for months. Shows you how subjective it really is, same test station different tester.

I see this thread also talks about wheel spacers, so question - Were these 'spacer kits' (increased tacking buy a couple of inches) complete with screw on 'extension bolts' Dangerous /dodgy/brainless to fit? Very popular in 70's and early 80's

Used to be bad news brown if the police stopped you on a bike and you didn't have an "E" mark stamped into the can. These days however because of the influx of exhausts from outside of the E.U. this no longer applies. It's totally down to the discretion of the M.O.T. tester, hence I have a full race exhaust ;D is this the same with cars?
Doh post above read

hey i had some of them spacers, 1 1/4" i fitted onto a clubman estate front and back. And it handled shockingly,so i removed the fronts and all was good. IT was on 10x6 cosmics. Looking back on it and thinking about the forces involved,it is very sca`ry As for E marks, same thing applies to Simpson helmets dazmax, and I used to show my E mark proudly to every copper that pulled me,and recite to him the law stating that helmets should be either BS kitemark,or an equivalent or higher standard for use on public roads in the UK. Oh deep joy.
