I thought you could run banded steels but they had to have been done by a registered place... like Bob Knight (of VW fame) and some Triumph place the name of which escapes me. Bob's are re-rimmed (the centres cut out and then welded into the rim of a wider wheel) which isn't illegal, a good engineer should be able to do it. Banding is illegal...there were too many badly done ones in the past.

been running wobbly bolts for donkies on various cars never had a problem i used them to go from a 100 wheel to a 98 pcd any more than this i think you'd be pushing your luck to be honest i have never heard of wobbly steel bolts only for alloys the correct term is PCD corection bolts as opposed to the decidedly dodgy sounding wobbly bolts.
don't be scared of them although they don't suit what you want to do anyway

I relly don't get why people are so paranoid about wheels and wheels bolts. The same physics applys to them as it does to any other part on the car! Agreed same physics apply - quite extreme physics if you think about how a car can be potentialy driven........... You have never been overtaken by your own wheel then after one wheel bolt sheared and the load was transfered shared on the remaining oneswhich in turn sheared untill the thing was free to part company with the car Wobble bolts are worse than fitting spacers with the std bolts and thats bad enough!! I just worry that wobble bolts are weaker and are a bodge way of avoiding buying the right wheel

as long as all 4 are done up properly there is potentially a 1mm difference in thickness which in all reality is the difference between nipping it up one last time

"PCD Correction" bolts ARE dangerous.
the force put on wheel bolts is pretty extreeme at the best of times.
your wheel constantly rotates, and the force on the collars of the bolts it therefore always changing.
If you make the shape a non constant, i.e. offset, you're overstressing these components.
They collar could (and they have done in the past!) snap.
Your wheel is then held in place by a loose stud, this WILL come loose, and something WILL go wrong.
They don't use offset washers for "PCD correction" in industry, it's an aftermarket bodge.

I don't think they are 'dangerous' as such, of course if crummy cheap ones exist made out of lousy metal, then that is dangerous, but for me as long as the central hole in the wheel centralises the wheel correctly on the hub, I don't see why these offset bolts cannot hold the wheel on adequately.
If the bolt section is 20% less, then OK you need material with a 20% higher yield strength, but thats not impossible.

Perfect illustration of what should happen........ but......... what actually happens is (most mail order companies won't even bother to ask any questions just supply you what you ask for) Picture a plastic fantastic saxo with - ET45 wheels corrected by 10mm spacers so that the hub centre is no longer applicable/avaliable as a centre location - PCD 4 x 98 rather than the correct 4 x 100 cos they were cheap of a mate and only slightly kerbed - fastened with "PCD correction bolts" that are probably for std wheels and can't cope with the 10mm spacers as well - No spigot rings and an oversize centre hole (not that it matters anymore cos of the spacers) And the 17yr old muppet hasn't got a torque wrench and has no idea of the importance of doing a few miles and checking all the bolts again and just does em up tight (ish) So perfectly safe for the spotty oik to take your daughter out for a date in it then ;D Does that sound a little far fetched cos round here I see it a lot.....

aha! Well theres no accounting for the stupidity of Barries, thats another topic!! I wasn't making that point although it now looks like I was - what I was trying to make was it's a slippery slope and whilst using one "bodge" might be acceptable you don't know when you say they are OK that there aren't other factors that will make it not OK............. I don't want an argument about the subject either - I'd never recomend their use because of all the other factors Anyway if my daughter went out with some lad who had a jizzed-up saxo i'd ground her till she was 40. LOL - I can believe that too ;D

OK well an otherwise-standard spaxo with a 4” exhaust is cast-iron barry, but if you get rid of it quickly and add no further stick-on tat I think you’ll get away with it
