how about the 2.3miller cycle engine? Comes complete with a lysholm screw supercharger The thing with the 1.8 engine is that i can see one with a forged crank rods and pistons, mabe titanium and berillium, and it spinning at 15K 90's DTM anyone? No one has mentioned the rotary engine either, comes in 1.3 and 2L flavours, good stock power and 500bhp is easy enough to get from both engines. Triple rotor is seeing 1200bhp in the drag cars out in OZ. J

Vitara V6 is a good choice but the Tappets are a complete pain in the , used to confuse the curse word out of me every six months or so when one came in for a service. Mazda V6 is o.k but both are front wheel drive and not very tuneable, MX5 lump with a turbo would be a good choice for an easy conversion, and it comes complete with a sweet five speed box, they even look old school

The rover 820 turbo engine isnt a bad one but not sure what (if any) RWD boxes bolt straight to it, which puts people off. Via PPC - LT77 (SD1, TR7) and R380 (RV8, Discovery) boxes apparently work - I think there's also a way of adapting a Borg Warner T5 with bits off an SD1 too. You can get a sump, clutch, starter and various other bits off a Sherpa van.

Why are the tappets so difficult on the vitara? Is it solid lifter? If so then its just begging to have steel internals and a 10K+ redline!

Wouldn't bother with the goldwing motor, too curse word and slow. Don't be fooled by the lbft figures either, the 'blade engine that I had in the sylva striker only had about 70, but still managed to press on OK.
If I were putting a bike engine in an imp, it would have to be the r1, cheap enough (£1k), doesn't require a dry sump and stock 180bhp with tuning potential.
Apart from that the car engine would have to be a subaru one, like that lad has done in readers rides.

As is said in the previous posts, its going in to a caddy, and its aint gonna be stock! The problem for me is the integrated gearbox and clutch for these sport bikes, they arnt strong, not by any means! The goldwing engine may be slow stock, but since when did i leave an engine stock? It has lots of potential, strong internals that will tkae my turbocharging antics. The 1.8 should be albe to make 200bhp easily, with the strength in the box, clutch and bearings to cope pulling 500kg along.
And the main thing is that the goldwing engine is exactly the same configuration as a porsche engine, and its all about that sound, OOOHhhhh yeah!

How about the Chrysler Neon/PT Cruiser motor? Very compact (I'd say it's shorter than an X-Flow). The 2.0 puts out 140bhp, the 2.4 143bhp, but with shedfulls of torque. These figures are with the cat, a/c and all the other junk. Hook the 2.4 up to a RWD box and put it in something light.
Or.............................. Mercedes E320 diesel. It propels the Merc from 0-60 in 6.9 s, when hooked up to an auto, and still gets 40mpg on a run. The manual is actually slower................................

My 8/10th scale racing truck is going to have a 3L diesel bimmer engine, i was so impressed with the one in my dads car that it has to be done. lots of power is easily attainable too, bigger turbo intercooler and some mapping changes should see 280bhp, and house demolishing torque!

Two engines for me:
Rolls Royce V8, 6.3 litres, enough torque to out-pull an artic, V8 noise but smooth as a baby's bum.
Mazda MX5 engine and box, don't know how much but they have god power, 5 good gears and RWD. Turbo up nicely with a bolt on kit.
Finally the Nissan Figaro engine. 800cc's, turbocharged and RWD, ideal for a small British 50's-60's car
Hold on, that was three engines ?

yea the Figaro engine is essentially a 988cc micra engine with lower compression and a turbo. Its also fwd and Figaro's came with a 3spd auto only.

Actually yeah on second thoughts the Figaro is FWD and it did look mightily like a Micra engine with a small hairdrier powering it.

1.7 Zetec SE from a Puma into a RWD escort - 125BHP and makes a lot more horsies with a few tweaks?
168bhp 2.5 V6 from a mundeno into a cortina?
Both alloy blocks so should be nice and light - anybody seen either of these done?

thats one of the mazda V6's again
They came in 1.8 (K8) 2.0(KF) and 2.5(KL) Got a 2l one in my new daily driver 323F. They seem to be nice motors, very smooth and very flat torque curve. Quite deceptive to drive as it's so quiet !

I think the Probe had a Mazda V6. The Mondeo and Cougar have the awful and unreliable Duratec V6. Seen so many that had to be rebuilt. Bring back the Cologne, all is forgiven!!

Yep I`m putting a 1.6 Zetec SE into a Kadett, with a Supercharger and DTA Engine management The engine weighs 82kgs fully dressed ;D ;D
