Why are the tappets so difficult on the vitara? Is it solid lifter? If so then its just begging to have steel internals and a 10K+ redline! J I cant remember exactly what they were like 'cos I worked on them when they were brand new but they had a mix of top adjustable and on the side adjustment, so you had to keep swapping the feeler gauges around and it was easy to forget where you were going... If that makes sence?

anything with the duratec badge usualy equates to 'mazda built' whch also equates to 'custom bellhousing' as they don't share the same bolt pattern as the rest of the ford range
apart from the st170 engine, which is in fact, a zetec with VVC.
ford like to confuse people

I like the look of the Mundano ST Diesel lumps. Stacks of torque! Sounds like a bag of spanners when you plant the throttlew but they don't half shift! 2.2 Turbo diesel, 155bhp and 265lbft of torque In fact any of those Ford TDCi lumps would make a pretty good transplant, and definitely a bit of an oddity!

The one you really want is the 2.4 from the Transit That little beauty has got over 400Nm Torque..... ;D The V6 Twin turbo diesel thats going in Landrover and Jag S-type is another stump pulling TDI and as for the V8 How does over 700Nm sound has to be torque limited to save the driveline in the lower gears, well actually all the Ford ones do, even the Mondeo one ;D TDI although boring is the future for Torque monster engines, modern Turbos (ask Mr bo11ox ) and Decent engine management strategies mean there is a lot more to come when freed from the Emissions regulations ;D

How about a G13b engine from a Suzuki Swift GTI? 1.3l, 16v twin cam. Produces just over 100bhp as std and is easily tuneable. They rev well and are very compact, which means it fits in a std roundnose mini ;D Here's mine: Hoping to finish it and MOT it the end of this week ;D. I'm also planning a turbo later in the year.

thats what the torque is there for, just leave it in the next gear up and let it come on boost. If you having lag problems then pop the clutch under load, itll come on boost like a banshee!
I was playing with mine today at the traffic lights, on the handbrake first gear slipping the clutch to build boost then ditch the clutch and mountains of wheel spin!
They may be boring in the cars the orginally come in, but this is a transplant thread!

There are quite a few interesting toyota engines out there... The mini guys mainly in OZ are turning to the 4EFTE from the starlet turbo 1300cc 135hp stock with switchable boost as standard. They can be tuned to about 350hp if you get really serious and can be made into a 1500cc by using the block crank and rods from a 5EFE. Toyota 4A-GE 20v Silver Top Twin Cam 20 Valve 1587cc 4 Cylinder 2WD Quad throttle bodies This type of 4A-GE engine produces approx 150 bhp. The Toyota 4A-GE 20v Silver Top was sold in the Japanese Corolla AE101 Levin and Trueno GT-Apex. Then there is the black top version it features lighter internals than the 20v Silver Top and has a higher compression ratio. This gives the engine around and extra 10 bhp. Simon

J yeh i know ive driven many turbo diesels, i generally don't like road car turbo's, but when i say hang on to a gear i mean, for really ragging a car about, where i want it to scream, ijust don't like the feeling of surge of power then running out of revs before changing again. Every diesel ive driven that ive liked the engine in has been a N/A .. unfortunately they are slow. and despite it being in a transplant thread, i havent seen any ideas on how transplanting those engines into something more interesting would make the engine any more rewarding to drive

Nice Am I right in thinking that not only can you get turbo kits for these but you can also use a Vitara 1.6 bottom end?
