some cool pics but i cant help but think tha if the designer had had his ruler at a slightly differnt angle most of them would look so much better- all the extensions at the back seem to either look too bulky or look like the back of the car is melting off. guess they were pretty contrained by existing glass and window frames etc.
i did see a pic of an audi quattro that had been converted into an extate using the roof off a mk2 passat, proper sleeper!

I've got one! Didn't pay £87.95 though ;D they did them for the B3 passat as well, as used by the german police (but with blue lights in )

scary stuff.
almost did this to a cyclist a few nights back who had stopped at the edge of a dual carraigeway (even tho there was a separate cyclepath on the pavement) 9pm no lights or reflectors, black clothing. My gf spotted him at the last second and i narrowly avoided hitting him! mustve given him a fright!

loving teh santana! actually had this on my watched items list, was half tempted to whack a bid on it! I was gonna join ukpassats, but I had a look and they all seem to be mashed up 20vt's and the like. Are there any "proper" one on there?Don't mean that disrespectfully, just not my bag I'm on there (i actually designed the current wersion of the site) with my B3 GT know what you mean, there used to be a good community of b3/4 owners on there, but as usual in the VW "scene" most of the guys have chopped them in for golf or corrados, still a few of us tho sticking with the old wagons, had mine for 3 years now and cant see me ever getting rid of it hehe

To be honest, that one looks a little bit too smooth up front with the VW badge removed. yep i agree- not getting rid of my VW badge, spent £12 on a brnd new chromed one from VW runsaab- shame you cant save it! they're still pretty common barges but getting rarer all the time! cheers for the comments Whitbytom

that silver one is cool but not quite the way I'm gonna take it- I'm gonna change the front bumper back to the original one and colour code the front and back bumpers and side skirts like i have the arch+door trims, ive polished up the roof rails and got a set of porsche 928 16" alloys ready to go on it once i can afford the new tyres! I'm quite liking this at the mo

have a look on here: www.vagcat.comyou need to register but it has all the exploded diagrams for all the VW range, should give you a good idea what cars had what bits and how stuff fits together. if you need any help give me a shout BTW, i was looking at an audi R8 the other day and noticed it had a little helper caliper for the handbrake, might be able to get something similar from rally design made by wilwood or someone like that? then just make a braket out of ally?

my fuel filter is currently held on with zip ties and a chunk of grey foam pipe insulation to stop them chafing through the casing, managed to mangle the braket getting the old one off, oops

I'm pretty sure the mk1 hubs had the brake carriers built into the hub itself, so the caliper bolts directly to the hub which makes it harder to put bigger brakes on them. mk2 16v and mk3 hubs had separate carriers which makes it easier to put bigger discs on.
mk3/4 passats and corrados also share exactly the same front suspension components in 4 and 5 stud flavours.
the front / rear discs will almost always be girling 54 calipers on the front, and girling 38's on the back. main difference being the fronts are loads bigger and the handbrake mechanism is built into the caliper on the back. Fronts are leading and rears are trailing. don't think you could swap the carriers over as the fronts are much bigger and the bolt spacing is firther apart.
disc sizes used were 239mm on the mk1 and 8v mk2, 256mm on 16v mk2 and 4-stud mk3, and 280mm on the supercharged G60 mk2's and early VR6, and 288mm on late mk3 16v and VR6.
On the back they all used 226mm discs.

mk2 and 3 struts are interchangeable, 16v mk2 hubs are the same as 4 stud mk3 hubs, but the 5 stud ones are different. The 5-stud ones (2.0 16v, late 2.0 8v and VR6) use a different ball joint at the bottom, which requires a different wishbone. part 5 is the 4-stud balljoint, locates to the hub with a pinch bolt, and 5a is the 5-stud balljoint, which fits into a tapered hole and has a nut on the end. mk4 golf struts are completely different, they locate into a socket in the hub rather than bolts on with 2 bolts like the golf 2/3 struts. not sure about mk1 hubs.

do it! they're solid old barges, don't really rot as they were galvanised and full of cavity wax (ive just had a little bit of welding done on the sills, but its was more preventative than structural) and keep going forever!
loads of bits of the mk2/3 golfs and corrados fit on them like a big lego set and virtually all the bits on them are still available from the dealers as they share the same mechanics as the mk4 passats which were still being made up to 1996.

pretty sure they only did them in a 4x100 fitment, i have seen 5x100 borbet A's for sale but according to a guy I spoke to who imports them (the importers are pretty local to me, over near brands hatch) the 5x100 ones were originally sold as blanks and drilled by a thrid party to 5x100 and arnt warranted- apparently there isnt enough metal in the hub area to safely spead the load from a 5x100 drilling. looking at the configurator here: www.borbet.de/index-lgb.php3?uid=&ukey=&site_lg=lgbtheyve only done one design of wheels in a porsche fitment, but thats for the cayenne which I think is 5x112 (VW/Audi based?) In 4x108 they did the BS, CA, CB, CF and LS, but no A

also don't forget that on some cars ie volkswagens with dim dip driving lights, you need to disconnect the dim-dip resistor otherwise the dip beams will come on when you put the sidelights on.
did this 2 years ago on my passat, best £30 I ever spent on the thing, with a set of osram silverstars it was ace. But got hella projectors in it now, (still with standard bulbs as havent got round to getting some +90% nightbreakers) , and its even better!
also have relayed the foglights to come on with the main beam= 2x H1 bulbs and 4x H3 bulbs on at same time= much seeingness on dark lanes!
