even if you get all the bits from a VW dealers itll only be about £200 for all the bits you need, much cheaper if you go to gsf or ecp.
easy job really, hardest bit is separating the exhaust manifold from the head.

as others have said the square looks so perfect it really really doesnt need bagging. perfect stance is very rarely with the frame sat on the floor . . . the wheels, colour contrast of the red black and whitewalls is spot on. if it aint broke don't fix it! btw this is my new all time favourite squareback. if i ever get one itll look like that

definatley. in my passat i run the power cables down the left hand kick panel as the amp and battery are on that side, to keep the power cables as short as possible. then the phono cables go down the side of the tunnel in the middle of the car under the carpet, and the speaker cables go down the right hand kick panel. nice to keep everything separate if you can.

25mm CSA welding cable is ideal for amp cabling- nice and bendy and very cheap compared to the curse word they sell labelled up as car audio cable. run it directly from the battery terminal, put a 30 amp inline fuse in the first foot of cable from the battery, then find a grommet through the bulkhead and run it under the carpet or down the sills to wherever the amp goes, avoid routing it where it could get crushed by trim, seat runners etc. Then from the amp run a short length to a chunky bit of chassis like a seatbelt mount or bumper iron bolt etc.
don't forget you need to run a single wire from the headunit to the amp to switch it on when the headunit comes on. this goes to the "remote" terminal between the two power cables.
then go to richer sounds or somewhere and get some 99p/metre speaker cable, will be nice and flexible too and plenty good enough for car speakers. get a few metres more then you think you'll need. then go to maplins and get some 4mm spade conectors, they should fit under the screws on the amp neatly and are much easier to use than bare cable ends once soldered on to the ends of the speaker cable.

if it was the first one, wouldnt it be very rare for it to end up in the hands of a customer? wouldnt the first few be used for crash testing or something?

loads of vw/audi group cars were 5x100:
mk3 golf vr6 and 16v mk3 passat Vr6 mk4 passat vr6 and 16v corrado vr6 mk4 golf mk1 skoda octavia mk1 seat leon and mk2 seat toledo mk1 audi A3 mk1 audi TT vw new beetle latest shape vw polo and fabia
so basically anything you see fitted to those cars will fit your golf. BBS RC's look good on them, although they're $$$$

in response to the OP, B3 88-93 passats -especially GT spec ones- are becoming rare due to the golf boys stealing the engines out of the good ones- they were available with the 1.8 and 2.0 16v and VR6 engines which are favourites to be transplanted into mk2 golfs, certainly they don't really suffer from rust as they are galvanised and full of cavity wax from the factory. I very rarely see another B3 'ssat on my travels.
See lots of B4 ones though, probably becuase they didnt really have any exciting engines, seem to be mainly TDi's and the 16v ones were only available for 2 years and are very very rare in the UK.
don't often see rover 800's any more (the angular mk1 ones), as well as meastros. I see the odd montego estate now and again, but even they're becoming very rare.

Just thought I'd mention that many of these wheels that are fashionable hyped as "G60 winter steels" are actually Passat wheels. Very similar, though. correct. supplied as winter wheels for high specced B3 passats (like the G60 syncro models) where 14" wheels wont fit over the bigger brakes. if you don't believe me check the part number- if its starts with 357 its a passat part

looks like a good meet! shame my pashat is a couple of years too young tho would be nice to check out some of those motors. Same old story tho- watercooled so the aircooled VW guys don't wanna know, and not a Golf so the golf guys don't care, and not old enough to be a "classic" lol BTW where did that tower block behind the pub come from? don't remember that being there last time I was down the ship+trades?

going back to the classic car insurance thing, didnt think you built up no-claims bonus on a classic policy? which might be an issue when you go back to a non-classic policy.
might be wrong tho . . .

nice, used to love proEngineer at uni. be careful with your datums in sketcher tho, looks like you have dimensions referencing other dimensions rather than fixed datums, that can screw it up, and changing one thing will change something else without you realising it. btw that red golf on the first page has both a supercharger and a turbo, hence the mega amount of cooling

does the car have a driveshaft damper weight on it? i know on VW's they have a heavy donut type thing round one of the driveshafts to stop vibrations, these can come loose and cause resonances at certain speeds.
