My other half's reluctance to use the windscreen washers on the 205 in this salty weather (in case they run out ) is taking its toll on the windscreen. The screen is lightly scratched. from where the blade has been run dry. 2 Questions: 1. Are those windscreen polishing kits that you see on eBay any good for taking out these light scratches? 2. Of replacing the blades, is it worth replacing them with the 'aero' style ones, like you get on modern cars? Just a shame my cheapo insurance doesn't come with windscreen cover, or else I would have accidentally fired a few stones at the windscreen with a catapult..... Thanking you!

1) dunno - have ehard that they can work, but you have to be careful not to remove more glass in one are than another - can get odd optics.
2) yes, they are excellent.
3) Persuade your OH to use the screenwash more, and offer to top them up daily, if need be.

before lashing out on a fancy kit, try autoglym glass polish, toothpaste or brasso.

Excellent - Aero blades ordered, and I'll have a go with some T-Cut this evening.....
I've offered to top up the fluid for SWMBO, but even when I'm driving, she complains that I'm 'wasting the washer fluid' when I give the screen a good drenching. It's not like screenwash is expensive......
I'll turn her into a good driver one day!

If they are scratching the windscreen, I would get new blades no matter what really! Only thing I will say about the Aero blades is that make sure that you go for a decent manufacture like Valeo or Bosch. I know some say this is rubbish, but I once borrowed a mate's Mondeo with Aeros off ebay, and I have Valeos on mine. I hated driving that thing in the wet, and he found my Pug a pleasure in comparison. My Valeos were then over a year old, whereas his were barely 6 months old.... Make of that what you will.
If you don't do silly speeds I would just pocket the cash and get some decent blades like Bosch or Valeo, and save the money really.

Silly speeds, in a Peugeot 205 1.1? Don't be silly! I've ordered cheapy Aero blades off eBay - so we'll see what they're like. If they're rubbish, then £10 for the pair won't really break the bank - it's not like they can be any worse than what's already on there. Topped up fluid last night and had a word with the OH. Too dark and rainy to have a go at tackling the scratches - no point until I've got new blades fitted. I'll let you know how I get on with the new blades. Cheers. p.s. If anyone can find reasonable wiper blades for my '51 bug, that desparately needs them as well. They seem to be over $100 a pair! www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=404490

I've had some success with Tescos universal fit wiperblades, only got them because they were BOGOF! £6, changed back to normal ones because 206's have a silly window and even sillier wipers, but the Tesco ones had been on for about a year, no problems.

I am a recent convert to decent quality wiper blades. Always bought cheapos but then bought a second hand car with Bosch fitted and what a difference, Will never buy gypo blades again.

They look nasty on old cars, but then i guess better to be able to see where your going, can always swop proper chrome ones back on for posing.

Aero blades were waiting for me when I got home. Seem to do the job well, but only time will tell.
Tried using Brasso on the scratches, then got medieval and used Autosol. Neither seemed to make much of an impression. It's only an old banger, so might as well live with them.....

I fitted a set of genuine bosch aeros to the IS200 because I noticed the ones fitted weren't wiping too well.
Lifted them up and they were disintigrating. That was 2 weeks after buying the car from a local prestige dealer for £4k.
But the Aero wipers work really well and suit the car because it is a modern. Remember, one day aero wipers will suit retros because todays moderns will be retros. I can't wait.
