Well, things have gone a way I didn't want to happen.
The gearbox has cheesed itself, there's play in the input/output shafts and it's really crunchy through the box.
Decision is to send it to a breakers. I was offered a good price and it's simply too far gone for me to warrant the spend needed to fix it.
£600-£1500 to rebuild the gearbox (which shares internals with the R50 mini getrag 5 speed unit), that is providing the bearings haven't chewed up the casing ..... or about £4000 for a new unit from mitsubishi directly which happens to be on back order so may be no longer available.
I have no patience with the open market and getting messed around for weeks so hopefully it will be sacrificed to save a few others.
Sad times indeed.

As I'm at work these days for upwards of 15 hours I'm not getting much done with the car.
It decided to kill the battery in a very inappropriate place just after filling the tank. Slightly embarrassing not being able to leave until rescue arrived.
027 battery if anyone else with one of these needs to change it and has no reference.

It didn't click why I liked your car but the once's here in Straya are not half as cool. Well, I worked out that most if not all are 5 door models. They just don't look as good as yours. I like yours a lot. Seems the 3 door colts where very much a euro thing from what I see. Still nothing major to report on this car except from getting a fine for driving through Manchester City centre. Most expensive mile I have ever done at £30 for the privilege 🙄

This is the After result of "can open, worms everywhere" ! Essentially derbyshire County Council are being cheap skates and putting surface dressing on any and every road surface in the area. This resulted in about a million bitumen spots and bits of gravel stuck down both sides of the car over the entire length, door handle height down to sill level. So with the help of the oldest child we set about to remove all the black mess ..... we ended up cutting and polishing every panel because it looked awful once we started. We haven't touched the wheels yet as they seem to be suffering the same leprosy as the roof and random areas where the clear coat is badly damaged or simply coming off. I suppose this is what happens with class leading Japanese paint tech applied in the Netherlands 🤷 *other brands and locations of application may also be turd when red* So yeah, boring update. But at least it is moderately clean now. Stage 3 clutch seems to have bedded in nicely too taking my 0-60 sprint down to about 7 seconds flat coupled with the flywheel (checked via torque through the obd). More soon I suppose

Nice to see another one appear.
Power wise you will only see around 220 on the stock ecu before it starts to fuel cut on you because ecu has power police as standard.
Mine has a scorpion secondary cat back non resonated exhaust and a K&n filter dumped in the engine bay and a stage 3 CG motorsport paddle clutch and lightweight flywheel.... you are better with the stock airbox and panel I am told. Upgrade the fuel pump to a wallbro 255 lph as the stock one is 80 lph and won't allows much past stock power.
I am working with Simon at Norton Tuning Solutions in Dinnington. My aim is 300bhp eventually but there is a fair amount of prep to do and it's going to take some time.
These are way more fun than micras (in my opinion). Have fun with it as they are getting a little rare, possibly only 1000 +/- a few in the UK in all specs including ralliart colts and czc ones

Unfortunately no pictures as yet.
Norton tuning solutions in Dinnington did a fantastic job fitting my stage 3 paddle clutch (Simon and crew certainly know their mitsys).
Drives not far off standard feel just really bitey and not in the slightest prone to stalling so I like it.
We can start planning out adding the ponies now as the drive is up to turning up the power.

After a very long absence from this forum and frankly not growing up at all. I thought I may share my current daily/project shed. I can't take any further pictures at present as it's currently at Norton Tuning solutions in Dinnington having a new clutch fitted. I have never paid so much for a clutch in my entire life but its OK because racecar. So here are the only 2 current pictures I have of my Colt CZT Nice to have a good leather interior (except for when that leather is black and it happens to be 31 degrees with 0 functional AC). I am also aware that the gear gator is the wrong colour but it is from a Colt base and looks way better than the mess that was fitted when I got it. Treated it to a replacement bonnet as the one fitted looked terrible (as does the roof and the top of the boot). But it wouldn't be a red 2006 japanese car (actually made at the Nedcar plant) if the clear coat wasn't all peely. More will follow as things progress, it's going to need a timing belt as there is no record of it ever being changed. Then we can move onto the more pressing matter of turning it up as far as I can safely get it because I have nothing else better to do.

My advice would be don't fit fixed back bucket seats and harness in acar with no roll cage. If the car rolls you wont be able to move when the roof caves in and you more likely to suffer serious injury. That’s an excellent point you make.... I have been in a serious high speed roll situation where the roof did cave in substantial amounts. I never really considered the fact that a fixed back seat would cause issues ..... but you are right, it actually would! If the roof caved and you were fixed to the seat (unable to be moving around). I could see how that would result in serious injury or worse, death! I would say that it never happens, it can and does. Usually when least expected. This is why it’s important to ask these questions and look at the bigger picture. You guys are awesome for your input. It’s really opened my eyes to the bigger picture here 👍. Thanks

especially inside the arch lip as that's where rust for all other cars is grown! FTFY 👍

Not too bad if they paint the back too considering that ecp charge £40+ per front wing unpainted.... paint on 1 wing for a good job has to be near £100?
Mind you ecp offer a fitment guarantee with there panels and I’m sure as hell not getting them from MB! I would need to sell a kidney for an unpainted wing!

personal thoughts, get the sport model steering wheel with the airbag, from the facelift version car and fit the adjustable steering column. The sport steering wheel is not as big as the original version. I don’t like them... I think they are ugly. There’s the choice of this one..... One of the ugliest wheels ever made imo. Or this one..... Which I also detest! I’m one of those people that hates airbags, I have been in an accident where if the airbag deployed, I would be dead..... I would rather old school it and have none at all it the car! There are some situations where they can be a good thing but overall I would rather be without. I also cleaned the wheels up so they look a little better (unfortunately I need a pair of front wings but it will get done).....

I reckon they are one of Merc's forged offerings, the other I know of are 16X7 Toliman's also fitted to the early SLK (R170) and are only 6.2kg. By happy accident I do seem to have purchased a set of forged wheels As seen Here snapped from the Mercedes Benz blurb of the time with the R171 Very much explains the light weight! You can seriously lift this wheels with the tyres on single handed without any issue or effort. Would never have looked if you hadn’t mentioned that.... thanks 👍

We will certainly stick with insight, up until something goes horribly wrong of course..... then it’s all someone else’s fault 👍
They are really stupidly lighter than the steel wheels which was a surprise. I think that they are about the best set so far I have fitted too.
Just need 1 centre cap (the ones that say Mercedes on them), or fit the caps from the last wheels (same silver as wheels with chrome star)

Well! Wheels are collected and fitted. Total of 513 miles, 1 tank of fuel and hours of driving gives us this...... Wheels were collected from Crewkerne in Somerset, once swapped over onto the car. I thought what the hell.... let’s go to Lyme Regis to finish the day off. Great day trip 👍

That was the initial idea, I mostly travel solo in the car but there are occasionally times that I carry rear seat passengers. Hence the original query.
Would be nice to keep the practicality for the occasional use.... however, safety’s the primary concern.

A nice set of wheels, fitted them on my W210 when I had it Needed spacers to bring them level with the arches though I have spacers already, 1 inch spacers with extended wheel bolts as the 202 suffers the same issues.

Boredom and eBay never mix well (usually)! I accidentally purchased some R171 SLk wheels for £32.66 tonight. It’s a full set of 4 and I will be going to Somerset area this weekend to fetch them..... All tyres are road legal apparently and until I get them next to the car I won’t know if I like them or not. I believe they are ET34 but unfortunately only 7” instead of the current 7.5”. At least this will mean that they are going to sit nearly in the same place on the outer edge. Best case scenario is that they look really good on the car. Worst case is that they look awful and I will have to keep them aside for winter wheels. Either way it will be nice to have a full set of alloys again after the crash, that saw me with steels at the rear and alloys at the front. I am anxious to get these collected and fitted to the car to see how they look (unless someone wants to photoshop them on for me) .... they are 16’s the same size as the current wheels also M12 bolts the same as the W202.

Looks like a more supportive seat is the way to go for now then.
Hadn’t considered the headbut risk if I’m honest.
