Praps I should matt black it? The body is really too good to completely mess up tho'! Rod, nothing wrong with a satin paint job, especially as it sounds like the bodywork is A1. After all the original ethos of leaving a car in primer (before it degenerated into one size fits all matt black) was that "my car may not have shiney paint but the bodywork is flawless".

The 37 Ford Woody was built by Nick Harrison. Car is still around but with a new owner as Nick now lives in Canada. The Wolseley with the blown 500ci Caddy motor belongs to Marek Czworden, his grandad bought it new apparently. The green 34 Sedan is still around, owner's name escapes me... Graham someone... And the blue scalloped T Phaeton belonged to Rory Smith (that's him leaning on the back) but has a new onwer as Rory's now in Oz.

I saw a mini just like this one a few days back..... very odd. Indeed, odder still it was registered about 41 vehicles after my Mini ....

Cool, just wondered if it will cause problems with tax/insurance. Ill ring them again and see what they say, try and get a letter from thme explaining why. I don't understand though, they have lots of proof of when it was made so why the constant mistake? The early square nose version also had a completely different rear end. VW - wrong! ;D Everything from the E04A on had the same bodyshell including the built-out boot, just different front sheet metal. The model you're thinking of is the 7Y (1937-1939) which had the "dustbin-lid" spare wheel cover on the back.

Not a problem VW as the E04A Anglia (the one with a square nose) came out in 1939, so 41 would have been a legit year of production.

Chris,
If you want to know about Consul Capris then PM Kev Rooney (Kapri on the NSRA site) as he's probably forgotten more than most will ever know about them. He's also the tech guru for the Capri club.

The idea of the extra set of dials under the hood is so that you can see what's happening when your tuning the engine. Saves having to have a mate sat in the car or you having to run around the front fender to stick you head through the driver's window to see what revs, oil pressure, temp etc that you're running while messing with the motor. ;D

Probably teaching granny to suck eggs here but that gold paint on the engine indicates it's a Gold Seal factory recon job.
This is going to be the world's coolest Austin! ;D

Wow, superb pics! Love that Fiat 2300, yet another to add to the want-list. ;D Inspired by those I went for a root through some old pics on my files and found these four, all courtesy of Mrs FR's grandad. The first two were from a set of souvenier slides bought in Oxford in the '60s - first one is the Sheldonian Theatre, second one is the High Street. The next two were taken by Mrs FR's grandad and are, we belive at the NALGO camp at Croyde, North Devon. You'll have to excuse the state of them, they've been in a suitcase in the loft for 20 years!

I guess the grille answer depends on what you have in mind for the fenders, if indeed it's going to get any?

Lets see if I’ve got this right – you want to keep the front beam (sensible move as a disc brake conversion is not that difficult).
In that case I’d ditch the idea of a Ford V6, they make nice boat anchors but are way too heavy and will screw up the handling. The V4 would go in the bin too (1500 German built version used by Saab), they have a bad reputation because the shaft that drives the oil pump and the distributor off the cam has a nasty habit of dropping into the sump, not good for the engine!
You said you’d either use a Sidevalve or a more modern motor. Probably teaching you to suck eggs here but ditching the Sidevalve also involves ditching the gearbox, torque-tube and back axle too. Making an adaptor to bolt say a V4 or Pinto to the original 3-speed would be a waste of effort as it just wouldn’t handle the extra power for very long.
If you wanted to stick with a Sidevalve engine then a 100E lump would be a good starting point as they have adjustable tappets unlike the 103E engine, they also have a water pump built in which is handy. Years ago Belchers used to do a 1400cc conversion on the 100E engine. They converted it to shell bearings and bored it out to 1400cc, can’t remember what pistons they used, may have been Mk1 Consul ones.
BMC A-series, in 1275 form would be interesting, they fit nicely in a Model-Y so would do the same in a Pop. How about one with a Shorrocks blower on it – mucho grin factor! ;D Buy a rotted out Midget and use engine, gearbox and back axle.
Alternatively buy a rotted out MX5 and use the running gear from that.

Only got a couple of photos of my folks old motors to hand.... Dad's very first car, Austin A50... and what was left of my Mum's Mk1 Fester after I rolled it when a dog ran out in front of me - found out then that FWD doesn't handle the same in a skid as RWD...
