Well, the plan with my new project - amongst other things - is a fresh paint job. My current idea is like so: Now I'm really wanting to go the 2-tone route as the American 'nod' in the theme of the project but the lines are giving me trouble (its a Buick pattern). So, anyone wanna have a go? or suggest something different as a little more added inspiration? Different colours? Different lines? Signwritten? heres a few to work from if you can be bothered: And to make it easy, heres a photoshop file with all the bodywork on a seperate layer: www.mediafire.com/?unwghfx1mxx ;D ;D ;D

The trick with paintwork is to follow the natural lines of the car. Using a buick pattern wont work on a datsun as the buick lines arent there. Your car has a nice coke bottle line along the waist so i'd use that as the break up for two tone. Also you accent the swage line along the bottom of the doors. Painting the bottom half a lighter shade than the top will make the car look lower than it is. Vertical lines make the car look shorter, thats why the front wing in your photoshop looks dumpy compared to the unchopped version. I would do you a shop but it takes me about an hour just to lower a car on there ;D

I think I know where your going with the colour scheme but I think with those colours on that car you are straying dangerously close to the 80s and splash graphics. 50s blues where flatter and not as bright And the cars had the luxury of big chrome trims to divide the colours You only have (more subtle) lines to follow You really need some defining point to ensure its not just another two tone paint job.

if it were my car id be closing this thread right now we have a winner!!!! Agreed, and maybe in this case...... What about shopping on a set of whitewall tyres , just for a bit more contrast. May not be part of the look , but how about being unique ?

The blue & grey is fine indeed but it misses the coke bottle lines Rev Dick Deluxe was talking about so it still might look a bit slapped on in the flesh. I don't have the SkiLlZoRzZ to pShop anything, but how about somebody modifying the blue and grey so the top line follows the coke bottle swage line like in this one:

glad you like it JS!
if you see the reason i did the line that i did, is that so you don't interrupt the door handle distance.
and where it curves upward further back, its following the same rake as the lower chrome window line.
to me a standard two tone half/half just cuts the car in half too much.
oh and for that gray color, yeah imagine a dark metallic gunmetal. if you could go with all metal flake paintwork, that would lend itself very well to old school american kustom style!
