Road works lamps - all roadworks were properly marked and barriered off with lamps which were filled with paraffin each evening & lit Larger roadworks had a night watchman in his shelter whom normally kept warm in winter with a industrial fire basket fuelled by coke - where have they all gone then ? even stranger , in the good old days , if a section of road was cordoned off for works , works would actually be happening , yes , really!!

White dog turds... what happened to white dogturds Funnily enough I saw one the other day, even contemplated photographing it, but started to question my sanity before I got my camera out! I stepped over it, and carried on with my journey, still debating whether I should've photographed it for posterity, or I should be furious that some moron had let their dog curse word on the pavement and just left it there!

(Oooh eck... sensing a fecal thread derailment approaching... what to do...think, Samage, think... ooh, wait a sec...)Going back to milk floats for a sec, that reminds me of something I saw at a show earlier this year. Forget updating them with modern EV gubbins, just shove a V8 in the middle! Just don't be surprised if your silvertop arrives curdled into cheese. 20180602_115033 by S E, on Flickr 20180602_115044 by S E, on Flickr

Is that the one on the A1 that's now a motorbike shop I do miss a little chef i can see why they disappeared "poor service and questionable food" but I'd still prefer to stop at a little chef than a motorway services Loads of them are porn shops now, have you noticed? Strangely enough I can't say I had, is there much call for emergency pornography at the roadside I wonder? You'd have thought the www would have killed off 'real' porn?

Most of them seem to have ended up in a shed near me that also contains a steam roller. I've tactfully declined to ask where they came from... I do miss a good little chef breakfast. I got all excited when I spotted one just as we were arriving at our hotel heading to a car show the other year, only for my hopes to be dashed when it turned out to be yet another closed one

Of 46,000 working payphone kiosks in the UK around 8,000 are traditional red phone boxes, most of them the K6. And 2,400 have been designated as grade II listed buildings.

In my capacity as a member of the committee for my local neighbourhood watch group, recently managed to secure the 'adoption' of our local K6 telephone box. BT announced it was to be decommissioned, and I managed to convince them we were a charity organisation and sent them a cheque for £1. People want to turn it into a defib location but damn, those things are expensive and require a constant power supply (BT are leaving the box connected for lighting but not sure whether they'll allow for defib supply). I'll let the old ladies of the group worry about fund raising for that option......:

Before the days of automated traffic signals or the just sort yourself out attitude of today there were Police on Point Duty - and I am just about old enough to remember them too - god forbid if you disobeyed the signal given by the officer

Not surprised there are fewer post boxes if they're all on the wonk like that Oddly, I drive past a place by the railway line that flog phone boxes... though I've never quite understood to whom. Maybe to double-barrelled Tarquins with enough room to install one in the Grand Hallway, or to complement the Ornamental Gardens? Certainly, I'm guessing the landed gentry are the only types with enough disposable to drop twelve and half grand (I kid you not!) on a refurbished phone box Link for veracity (I'm in no way associated with nor recommend this firm, just find it a fascinating oddity in an increasingly made world) www.unicornrestorations.com/Check out the "K2 Jubilee kiosk"! I think some of them may be going out of the country, I've seen a couple of them over here, although not in restored condition.
