phone cards ! theres still one of these at the side of the road in tunbridge wells A26 but yeah, even the 80s/90s KX100 box is now being deleted and sold off. i did read about some scheme where they would leave them as wifi hotspots or emergency phone charging outlets, which seemed cool, but probably no profit in it

Sort or roadside but I miss the smell of Castrol R! Good old castor-based stuff. Used to smell it all the time back in the day with all the 2-stroke bikes and classic cars running it.

The internet. I've no idea where it is. I was specifically looking for a slightly different design in green, but that one does to illustrate the point. I'm gonna have to take the dog for a walk and find out if it is the same place and the lamp post is still there now.
Well? Was it the same one and is it still there?

I don't, I followed a Wartburg for 25 laps once, the stuff coming out of its exhaust cleaned out my exhaust not long after, now I know why old school bike racers wore big long boots, I almost didn't get my overalls off in time! Although there is an old boy near me who rides a Suzuki step thorough 2 stroke, very slowly, whilst smoking cherrywood tobacco in his pipe. That smell takes me back.

Sorry, but it isn't the same street I was thinking of.

Even in the 25 years or so I have owned a house the amount of cars in our street has increased massively, most houses have at least 2 when I moved in many didn't even have a car. We have also lost several corner shops

It will come in handy even if you never use it

I asked on page one if the post piller box was on the decline, well this one sure is, not been repainted or maintained in a long time. Are there boxes that have been earmarked to run the rest of their life, with no more maintenance, and then remove them once they function no more.

I recently filled up at a forecourt that looked like this, somewhere around Bristol. I said to the owner how I couldn’t remember the last time I had stopped at a place like his, and he replied that there were only around twenty independent sites like it remaining in the UK. It was wonderful to take a step back in time for a moment.

One of the “How do they do it?” type programmes covers the making of these - done in Scotland by the same few blokes for the last forty odd years!

There is a lollipop lady does the crossing at a school about half mile from my house. She seems to have zero concept of the idea of traffic flow. She will just stop the traffic let a bunch of kids cross & then instead of going back to the pavement to allow cars to clear, she will just stand there waiting for the next kid, that is like 50 meters away. It’s literally chaos for about 20 mins

I can remember when practically every road, certainly every main road, was lined with telegraph poles: They were wonderful for providing a guide as to where the road went, especially in foggy conditions ... until the point where the road turned a corner and the poles continued their line across the field, swiftly followed by you!
